I bought this through aliexpress and have been using it the past 2 weeks and honestly can't fault it! I paid about £110 inc insurance and the phone feels like a premium product, its really fast and the UI is clean and functional. Battery life is superb as well! they are dual sim as standard althought the 2nd sim (nano) is 3g only and also the memory card slot. The primary slot does need a micro sim. Have some heat for that price!

Hi, Is this the one you are talking about on Aliexpress? The gold one goes up to £126 on Gearbest, but the link on Aliexpress I think is the same model sell the pink at £110.69, black more expensive at £104.27 and the gold at £106.12.

My missus would like either the gold or the pink one as her iphone 5s is on the blink and I have convinced her to stop going for iPhones since I moved to Xiaomi Redmi 3s.
I think I can avoid warranty by pretending I am in the USA and then changing location for delivery to UK from reading other posts.
Thanks!

This is the gold version at 98 quid. And, yes, avoiding the warranty charge is simply a matter of pretending you are a US customer until you get to the checkout screen. Easy. And kudos for showing your iPhone using wife the error of her ways :relaxed:

No, all my banking apps work perfectly.

As long as its the official ROM, if not you will need to flash it which is easy enough

Best phone I have ever owned, considering price to functionality.

The only reason I bought this phone was the ability to have 2 apps, so I can see both my eBay business at the same time

The camera is sub standard though but good enough for me as I own a semipro camera anyway

Has anyone updated their 4x to the official 8.2.9.0 ROM? Mine was delivered with 8.2.7.0. and I've noticed there's no "UK" or "Great Britain" option in the region list when you go through setup.

FWIW I bought two phones (one for daughter) through GearBest and they arrived surprisingly quickly, all sealed up in the proper global version box. Also bought some phone cases and a couple of flashlights which took much longer to arrive, but all perfect when they did.

13 Jun 17 #44
I have ordered a few from China and UK, but none fit due the curved edges of the screen. I have a flat glass one on mine at the moment until I can find another. The other Redmi 4x threads on here have said that this phone is the same as another Redmi, so order protectors for that and they will fit. Unfortunately not in my experience...
dreadzone101
13 Jun 17 #45
Are you sure you aren't getting mixed up with the 5.5" Redmi Note 4 Global Version? The Note 4 Global Version shares the same housing as Redmi Note 4X so people talk about getting those cases instead because the original Redmi Note 4 is different housing to the Global Version. The 5.0" Redmi 4X doesn't have that confusion though so I haven't seen anyone on Redmi 4X threads saying to get protectors for another Redmi.

Have the ones you purchased not fitted because they didn't cover the full screen? That is common because of the curved edge. See this Amazon listing<< In the description it says "NOTE: Because of the curved edge of the display, the film is deliberately smaller than the display." You could get ones with a coloured border<< that fit right to the edge though. They seem to be quite common now.
mikerj
13 Jun 17 #47
I bought mine from Amazon (quite expensive!) and it fits pretty well, but because the screen is curved the protector doesn't quite go to the edges of the screen, though it's hardly noticeable. However with a soft case fitted it looks perfect, the edges of the case come right up to the edges of the screen protector.

Really liking the phone, the one thing that annoys me is that you can't use the SMS messaging app in landscape mode, which seems ridiculous but appears to be a common feature of the MIUI OS rather than a specific fault with the 4x.

The battery life is incredible, currently on day 3 with about 20% charge remaining, though I'm not exactly glued to my phone for hours every day.

you sure its not the Global version . as I hope it is , ordered last night says Rom: Official global
dreadzone101
14 Jun 17 #62
If you ordered from the AliExpress link in comment #48, then it is not Global Version. Neither the title or description say Global Version. The band spec also does not state B20 either which Global Version has. Sellers can install Official Global ROM themselves onto the China Version so Global ROM does not mean Global Version. This is the Global Version listing<< from the same seller. Here are the different Redmi 4X listings<< from the seller. The Global Version listings will say it in the title. The ones that say "Original" are the China Version which will have had the Global ROM installed by the seller and won't have B20. The one linked in comment #48 is China Version.

so the phone is useless then for the UK
dreadzone101
14 Jun 17 #65
Won't be useless. Lack of B20 doesn't mean it won't work in UK. It's only one of three UK 4G frequencies. The only mobile network who use only B20 for 4G is O2 and networks which run off O2. If you are on O2 with a non B20 phone, it doesn't mean it won't work at all. It will still function as normal phone, but data will be 3G. Other networks use a combination of frequencies so even without B20 you can still get 4G on EE and Three for example. But I'd suggest ordering from the Global Version link instead as they're essentially the same price, and Global Version is more suitable for UK.

14 Jun 17 #68
Has it already been dispatched? I've no experience with returning items to China but the consensus from reading other threads is that it will be a lot of hassle. The seller has 7 Redmi 4X listings. Only 2 of which are "Global Version" so they do make a distinction themselves. However in the listing provided in comment #48, the feedback in which the buyer has included pictures, suggest they received Global Version even though the listing is for China Version. So there's a chance you may still end up getting it, which will be suitable for GiffGaff but I'm not sure what the likelihood of that is.

14 Jun 17 #71
O2 (so giffgaff)have been rolling out the 1800mhz frequency for Lte in some areas i believe, so you may get some 4g depending where the you are. Other wise as others have said, you should get 3g ok. Probably doesn't make much difference on giffgaff anyway as days speeds are notoriously bad!

OK - I think I may have bought the wrong one to which a lot of you are linking too which is £98.

I bought this one on the LINK as one of my original questions (had an option of pink, gold, and black) and it was slightly more at £101. It says Global ROM on it and has B20 on the detail. I cannot for the life of me for some reason see what comment numbers are that people refer to as #48.. I think my HUKD layout has changed?

Anyways - the status is "Shipping Confirmation" so can I still cancel the order if you guys think I have bought the wrong one which will not work in UK?

If it is a matter of a couple of quid I will let the order complete but getting pretty worried now since I jumped to buy it before the link for the £98 version was given.

Also you get a free silicon case and protective film with this deal so not sure that is why there is a slight price difference? I may still buy a tempered glass one that bellboys mentioned.

I bought my xiaomi phone from banggood. It was a couple of pounds more than aliexpress but their customer support is much better.
It took about 2 weeks to arrive and was packaged well. Best of all, it was labelled as an mp4 player worth £20 so no customs problems. Tracking was a bit of a joke though - don't rely on it!
Had an official global rom and worked perfectly out of the box.
Recommended seller.
dreadzone101
15 Jun 17 #76
See previous comment for the differences. "Global" can mean Global ROM or Global Version. The disadvantage of China Version with Global ROM would mainly be if you are on O2 or an area where your network uses predominately B20 4G frequency, since China Version has no B20. If you do end up getting the China Version with Global ROM, it shouldn't matter too much since you are on 3. I use my non B20 phone on 3's 4G just fine.
dreadzone101
15 Jun 17 #77
The one that was being discussed is from a different seller than the one you have linked. I think the new layout doesn't number the comments. This comment link<< should work if you are on the new layout. If not, it's bellboy's reply to you that starts "This is the gold version at 98 quid". The link they included at the end of the comment seems to be China Version with Global ROM. However it's from "Xiaomi Online Store" whereas your link is "Xiaomi MC Store". As for whether or not yours is the Global Version... I am not sure. There is conflicting information.

Why your Redmi 4X listing might be Global Version:
- The band specification points to it being that
- People who have left feedback which include photos show the Global Version
Why it might be China Version with Global ROM:
- No mention of Global Version in title
- Only "Global ROM" labelled over the image.
- In red text it says "We need to open the box to install the Official Global ROM and Google Play before delivery"
- Only China Version has pink option.

Compare with Global Version Redmi Note 4 listing<< from the same seller, which has Global Version in title and over image and says "We will send it directly with the sealed box, won't open the package."

The seller has 6 different Redmi 4X listings<< with no obvious differentiation at a glance. Your link might be a listing which was originally for China Version with Global ROM but was later updated to Global Version without changing all the relevant details. Or perhaps they duplicated one of their China Version listings and only changed the band information to indicate it's for Global Version. It's hard to say for sure.

15 Jun 17 #83
Thanks Dreadzone... so looks like I have taken a gamble on this purchase but I hope it doesn't back fire...
As you say, it say "Global" ROM in the title but not over the pictures.
I am assuming when people taking Global, they mean Band 20?
My wife and I are both on 3 so it doesn't really matter but it is just confusing with so many options and wording used!
I am hoping that because all the recent customers (mainly from Russia) that have taken pictures with a "global Version" gives me some hope.

Is there a disadvantage between a "China Version with Global ROM" vs a "Global Version"?

Thanks again everyone on this thread, it is very useful to have some insightful members on this forum!

Hi there all!Just to update I received my phone from Aliexpress today after two weeks (no customs to pay) and please see pictures or what I got from buying it from there on this link. I was worried at first because I didn't use the same store etc, and hopefully when I set it up for my missus should all be fine.

The Box is sealed and has the sticker "Global Version", I also asked the store contact whether I was going to receive a 'Global Version' or a 'Chinese version with the Global Rom', I also said I need the Band 20 (I don't really) to work on the O2 network so would want to send it back if it is not. She replied, its the "Global Version and Don't Worry" - I will fully test it out with a friend who is on the O2 to double check anyway.

31271599-hAhXe.jpg
They also sent some other free gifts which is a screen guard (not tempered glass), silicone case, nano sim adaptor with pin and plug adaptor (not in picture). Also the bubble wrapping package is pretty cool and kept the phone protected - I have included a pic of the postage label to show it is marked as $39.

dreadzone101
15 Jun 17 #80
Yeah, unless the seller went to the effort of opening, installing stuff and then resealing themselves, which is unlikely. Vendor ROMs are often an issue with China Version. If a Xiaomi phone gets a Global Version release, it won't be at the same time as the China Version. After the original China release, there is a period of time where an Official Global ROM does not exist. So sellers often create their own custom ROM to make it more suitable for international customers since China ROM has no Play Store etc. However, this can lead it having hidden malware/adware. The ones most susceptible to this are newly released phones such as Mi6 (currently no Official Global ROM) or phones such as Redmi 4 Pro which wasn't released outside of China and the Official Global ROM for it wasn't made available till maybe 2 months after initial release.
Delldoy
15 Jun 17 #81
I know I posted this deal but I'm a little confused now... Am I right in saying that the Global Version is sealed from the manufacturer and untampered with and that the Global Rom is opened then flashed with this ROM?

I found this video on youtube about Redmi note 4x
youtube.com/wat…vXA Redmi 4x vs Sony Z5
dreadzone101
15 Jun 17 #85
If following the naming convention used by most AliExpress sellers, then yeah. The Global Version has Global ROM pre-installed therefore sealed, whereas China Version would be pre-installed with China ROM hence sellers open to install Global ROM themselves. If it says "Global ROM", that wouldn't be enough to determine which it is since Global Version listings will state it too in description therefore you'd look at band specification etc. However, if it's advertised as only Global ROM instead of Global Version, then it's likely China Version without B20.

A lot of places sell both versions and make a distinction between the 2. Others seem to less clear about it. Gearbest sell China Version with Global ROM, and call it "International Version", which is even more confusing. If you go to your deal and then click on the 2GB/16GB option it changes to an "International Version" page which is the China Version with Global ROM and the specs change to show it has no B20. A few other differences would be: Global Version - English text on box, EU plug inside box, red "Global Version" sticker on the box itself. China Version - Chinese box, US plug, no red sticker.

I ordered this phone on June 9. It was shipped on June 13, which was a couple of days earlier than the website promised. as far as I can make out from tracking info, it's on its way to the UK and Yodel is expecting it "soon". It's now June 16 and no info on how long it will take Yodel to deliver once it arrives with them. So, seven days so far since ordering.
Update: Just looked on the GearBest tracking info, and it now says the phone left Shenzhen (city just north of Hong Kong in China) Sorting Office today. So looks like it hasn't left China yet.

I ordered on the 23rd of may, it got stuck with Yodel who eventually confirmed to me that they had "lost" the parcel.

Now Gearbest want me to pay $60 more to re-send the second.........

This is typical gear best practice they ask you to pay half the price of what you bought to send again unless you have paid for there extra insurance . from what I found from a Google search this is very common with them I had this with a set of earphones, so when ordering this I took the insurance of $3.

I reckon the Note version of this particular model of 4X would be the Global Version Note 4 rather than the Note 4X. Your Note 4X will lack B20 and will arrive in an unsealed box, unlike the Global Version 4X and Note 4. Although the Global Version Note 4 doesn't come in blue/green, it's essentially the Note 4X but with B20.

Good phone isn't it. Just to let you know I updated mine to the latest Beta Global ROM and United Kingdom is included in regions so looks like Xiaomi is putting that right. In the meantime, Falklands is fine. I tried Singapore because I'd read it would get faster updates, but there were none for me.
BTW if you're thinking about going onto the official Beta Global ROM, it's working great for me and I've not come across any problems. It should move MIUI on to Nougat fairly soon.

Opened up the box and all there, gold phone for the missus. She likes the look, she got a little freaked out that not all the contacts where transferred from her iphone to the andriod (second response - I hate it all my apps are not there) -_-'

Luckily I did a bit of searching and found an app that lets her transfer her contacts on the phone onto an email file and just send it to herself. I downloaded all the apps from Google Play (which was already installed) and it was up to her to log in to all the social networks. Not sure why her Fitbit app doesn't sync with her wrist band?

Anyways looks like it works fine and I have the Global Version - not sure about the Band 20 because we are using the 3 network, is there anyway to look at the phone settings to check the bands it works with?

The silicone case is fine but I think she prefers a hard case so I bought a not so cheap MSVII version. I have one for my redmi 3s and its really good quality.

Question: How do I get on the Beta Global ROM? Would it impact any of my current settings?

Update about my order.
I ordered on 19th June with Gearbest and my order status still showing as processing. I contacted them on Facebook. Got a response on the same day. They said it is out of stock and gave me 3 options.
1. To wait as it will take 7 to 15 days for the dispatch.
2. To order something else from their site instead.
3. To get a refund as shop vouchers.
I chose option 1. So will have to wait for almost a month.
Will post any updates.

Thats odd. I ordered on the 20th, but mine shows as 'Shipped out'. Theres a further progression titled 'Product Dispatch' but this still shows as grey. I have also been given a Yodel tracking ID, which has entries 'Delivery Date Set' and 'Parcel data received awaiting coll.'

Whilst it was still on processing, I clicked the 'Dispatch faster' button, which was visible on the order page. I recall a box popping up saying something along the lines of 'Thanks, we will try'. I assumed it did nothing, and was simply there to placate those who are impatient like me. Since yours is still stuck on processing however, perhaps it did do something?

ordered basic silicon case - ok, but might want to change in the future to nicer looking one
glass protector via ebay - does not really fit, small gap around the edge where screen starts curving
will look for PE film protector

installed official V8.2.10.0.MAMMIEA .. apparently it has issues with led flashing white only, voice recording quality,
vibro in silent mode - works

battery life - worse than redmi3 with miui 7.3.1, probably could be improved by using system restrictions wisely ...
for comparison - redmi3 works for 3 days with light use. this one less than two with the same load. too much discharge when phone is inactive.

Doh - I have left my 3 nano sim in slot 2 for the past 6 months! Only realised one slot was for 4g and the other 3g as I just put the nano sim in the slot that fit and was good to go.
Now I know that I need an adaptor, my network "should" be faster to use the internet outside the house.... great that the deal in Aliexpress provided a free adaptor.

Paulaberdeen - not sure what that "close gallery" issue you have. Never had that problem

Oldfatbikergeezer - It doesn't really matter which location you set up at first (that I am aware) because once you get network or wifi, it works out which location you are in and sets the time accordingly. I chose Singapore based on another user here that they said get first updates. I will probably load up the new beta upgrade some point but happy with how things are running right now.

Read in manual that you only need to place the SIM into slot 1 to get 4g if you are also using an additional SIM card or memory card. Hi, when using as a dual sim, can anyone confirm that you can choose which sim slot has access to 4G. Or does it default to one specific slot only. Both my work sim and my personal sim are micro. So, I need to swap one for a nano, while making sure that my personal sim retains 4G
airguitarjump to 5757alan
11 Jul 17 #209

Sim Slot 1 is the 4g slot if you are going to use two sims or one sim and one sd card (please see picture). If you are only using one sim card it will auto pick up 4g. I dont think there is a function or option in the phone to say "Slot 2 to have 4g".

You can buy various sim adaptors from fleebay for 1p (includes the postage!). But these convert nano sims to larger sizes. You can buy cutters to reduce the size of larger sims.

I have the redmi note 3 and it does not take 2 micro sims it is 1 micro and 1 nano sim / micro sd card so if it is the redmi note 3 that you have with 2 sims in it then one is already a nano
dreadzone101
11 Jul 17 #212
Both slots are 4G capable and can be chosen by selecting which SIM is used for internet. You should be able to see this on your Redmi Note 3. Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > Internet. The SIM you have set here will be your 4G sim and you can chose either SIM. However you cannot have 2 simultaneous active 4G connections. When you set one SIM for internet, the other will become either 3G or 2G only. I think your Redmi Note 3 is 4G+2G where the 2nd SIM will be 2G only when one is chosen for internet whereas the newer Redmi Note 4/4X is 4G+3G so 2nd SIM can also be 3G whilst the primary SIM is on 4G. Uncertain which the Redmi 4X is but either way you can select which slot is the primary 4G SIM.

is it worth holding out until after the 26 as prices for redmi 4 etc will be reduced hopefully?

No you just have a different Redmi Note 3 variant than they do. The original Redmi Note 3 Mediatek is dual micro SIM with no micro SD. It was the Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon "Pro" and "Special Edition" that changed it to 1 micro + 1 nano or micro SD. See here<< which shows that the Mediatek is dual micro SIM. Also Aliexpress listings<< for the different sim trays.

got this update think it was 8.50 and phone rebooted and presented with this pop up

xiaomi service framework will send sms to verify your phone number. you will be changed by your provider for sending SMS

any one know what this means

googled can't find an answer, apart from some one saying why not press to verify

I assume it's related to Mi Cloud services which by default is under Settings > Mi Account > Mi Cloud. I've never used it but recently updated to MIUI9 and had this show up:

Prior to update I think I had a notification every once in a while asking if I'd like to sync to Mi Cloud. I'm guessing the phone is just checking Mi Cloud functionality after update.
