Not the greatest fan of Ticketmaster, but the Wimbledon setup is one of the better ones IMO.

Purchaser has to go and collect the tickets with ID. They are pre-sealed in envelopes limiting staff messing around on the day. The only real way to fiddle it would be for a scalper to go collect the tickets and then try to sell them to someone on the Wimbledon grounds, which would be pretty risk (and having been I've never seen that).

Quite simply the issue is there is overwhelming demand. It's essentially a lottery. If they have a few hundred tickets and 20k people (taking your RG figure) hit their system very few will get lucky. You may as well call the Euro Millions a scam because you haven't won.

Also I suggest you read up on how high load/availability ticketing systems work. To handle thousands of query's within a few seconds the system will be distributed. As such it can't reliably order query's on a first come first served basis. To relate it to a real world example, imagine 100 ticketing booths and suddenly 20k people rush through the doors as you open them. If you take the first person at each booth, you get a group of 100 people, but that won't be the same as the first 100 people that walked through the door. Generally to protect the system and to make it fairer (account for slower connections, people that get hit with the capture, etc) a sample is selected from query's within a time frame and most are dropped. RG will surely operate the same principles, but instead they then give you a queue number rather then just saying success or fail. Ultimately if you're queue number is 20k, the difference is entirely psychological, as in both cases you aint going :disappointed:

In a few years of trying I've got tickets only a couple of times (I also got them once by winning my tennis clubs ballot). The ones I took were returns for the first Federer v Djokovic final. The other set I didn't take (i'd been trying everyday for practice and just to see what I get, but really wanted Mens Semi's/Final).

My attempts are documented on previous Wimbledon ticket threads, including the year I got the final tickets. And unlike you i've been a member here for 8 years with thousands of posts. So the assertion that i'm some kind of plant is even more far fetched then suggesting Wimbledon's ticket system is a scam

Did managed to get womens Final which was nice, despite the blow out in the second set. The mens dubs from what I did see was fantastic and the womens dubs, well, yeah LOL. It was good they made it open court for womens dubs though. I got a telling off beforehand from a steward cos I moved forward. Jobsworth!

A quick question I do have as I do try to go every day I can, I book the two weeks off work and stay with family in London... I used to use court 3 tickets on ticketmaster as an expensive groundspass to save having to queue every day. However it seems to have gotten more dfficult now. Could this be to do with them making like 75% of the court unreserved and then like 25% reserved, which is not just reserved public tickets but also I assume ballots and press, coaches etc? I doubt they give much allocation to Ticketmaster anymore. I'd roughly estimate like 30-50 seats MAX. Anyone shed some light?

i tried the ballot, did not hear anything.
i tried multiple times on Ticketmaster last fortnight.
Just when i thought it wasn't going to happen, perseverance paid off. Fortunately managed to get a pair of tickets right at the back at 9.04 this morning.

Never give up guys, thank you OP for starting this thread.

Definitely however I'm trying for the ballot next year. Thinking about it I could have gone this year:

First day.
Ladies Semi final
Men's Semi final
Men's final

Not bad really but the luck has got to be running out! You use to be able to use Ticketmaster to basically guarantee a ticket but that isn't the case anymore.

its a 50 Meg fibre but its not about getting onto the site the quickest this year. I've never had one ticket this year through the first run through the captcha. They have all been between 2-13 mins after they went on sale.

There are no tricks or secrets this year. Its just blow through the captcha and keep going asmany times as you can. I'm not even sure if thats the right method or whether ticketmaster sees you as a bot, but thats all I have been doing.

Got 2 days in the first week but had tried every slot that week for up to 15 mins after they went on sale. so 2 out of 14 ish goes.

but this week for others I've had 3 sets, but again tried 9am and 12 each day.

One of the days this week was from my work pc running down a crappy corporate internet link on a dog slow pc. so again I think that rules out any skill. oh and I;'ve not been logged into my account before getting any , so its not like they know its me.

Off to buy a euro millions

Chrome and they popped in around 12:02. I tended to try and get through between 1:30 and 2:30 as many times as I could as thats the first time they get timed out.

Not doing anything special or clever and had many more misses this year than hits. As ever the days you dont want are the ones you get.

Pretty much my experience too. Apart from last year, I have been able to attend for each of the last 4 years by putting the effort in and plugging away for up to 20 mins on some occasions to get tickets. Plenty of luck involved with the captcha's but overall, I would say it's a fair process and everyone has a chance.

If you didn't get any tickets so far, keep trying and hopefully you'll get lucky. I've managed to get Women's Finals returns a few years ago and even Men's Finals one year. Last year I didn't manage to get any despite my fast fingers. Main thing is don't give up and keep trying.....

similar to the posts above, I've been getting tickets via tickmaster for the last 6 years , in the previous years posts you see my efforts and photos. Not sure ticketmaster would pay someone to bother doing that on hotukdeals .

I doubted I'd ever get tickets this year after the first saturday and sundays efforts as you'll see on page 1. In the end I've managed to go twice myself, got a friend "returns" for today and had womens final "returns" in todays run that I put back in.

I've no secret to doing it this year and all 4 sets I got well after the tickets went on sale. I just kept plugging away until 12:15 and most times I got nothing but on 4 occasions its worked.

I preferred it when there was more skill in getting them. Like being able to type the captcha words fastest or by coming up with a system to get the best type of picture captcha.

This year there isnt a system or anything that I've done that has made a difference apart from try , try and try again

Best of luck to everyone for the last 2 "goes" for this year tomorrow and see everyone for more fun next year :-)

I can't tell if you are joking or not. The idea that a company as big as Ticketmaster would do something like that which wouldn't benefit them at all is bizarre.

I think you are also underestimating how much more popular Wimbledon is than Roland Garros. Can you imagine how many people would join an online queue for Wimbledon final tickets if they put say 10,000 of them on Ticketmaster? It's that there are only 500 or so on the last minute reserved seat sale that stops it being total pandemonium and gives people who diligently try each day a sporting chance when most people wouldn't bother at such seemingly terrible odds.

You got me. The shame of it. I feel so dirty I have to scrub myself clean every evening

I presume the returns come in whenever they come in. For example probably quite a few in the last couple of days due to Konta being booted by Venus and what happened in the mens.

The reserved i'm not sure about. Perhaps they want to give people who are fans of a particular player a chance? i.e. Cilic fans may have more of a chance to get tickets to watch him in the Semi, whereas if they'd sold them all at the beginning they'd be competing with more people (Murray fans for example).

I think if you go in expecting not to win any tickets and think there's always next year, it doesn't hurt as much
Mannyx
13 Jul 17 #186
Fine, you're a very experienced Ticketmaster mole planted long time ago
Joking aside, let's say I believe you and their system is "legit", I still think queuing system is much better. Ok the difference is mostly psychological but at least you know what to expect, here you have no clue what's going on and not to mention going through 100 captcha challenges twice a day, it's very frustrating, almost agonizing.
You feel like someone is trying to make fun of you, can they just tell you after x tries please stop you have no chance or that you are number 2000000000 in the queue and at least you know you can give up ?

If you have a few hundred tickets each day to sell online why not sell them all at once for the entire tournament sometime before it starts ? This would be a much better way to do it and i'll tell you why:

1. Not everyone has time to do this twice a day for 2 weeks and probably the most important part you only have to put up with their horrible system only once.
2. It's fairer - with current system some people can get tickets for 1, 2, 5, 10 or even 20 tickets for a single tournament depending on their "luck" while others get none. If you put a limit of 2 per ID/card a lot more people will get tickets, of course those who are at the front of the queue will get the best tickets but at least everyone would have a higher chance of getting a ticket.

I entered the ballot for the past 3 years and so far I only "won" a pair of Court 1 tickets for Sunday July 16th which i turned down but you don't see me "moaning" about the ballot do you ? It's because i don't have anything against it.

Anyway, keep defending Ticketmaster, it only reinforces my belief.
Arsenal1234
13 Jul 17 #177
Disagree with this, it isn't a scam but simply a case of supply and demand. The fact is tickets are limited and even on the website it states "several hundred". The only thing I agree with is that Ticketmaster has I think changed how they distribute the tickets I strongly believe that there was more than several hundred people searching before me so why did a ticket come up after 5-6 attempts make no sense?

Also, ticketmaster isn't the preferred way to get tickets you should consider applying for the ballot next year I got ladies final a few years ago from it. Either way, no use of moaning just sounds a bit like sour grapes.

I haven't been paid off by Ticketmaster anyway if I was do you really think I would have gone on court 3 the first day and not been since? As Mac says "You cannot be serious!"
Mannyx99
13 Jul 17 #176
Well I honestly believe this is a complete sham and whole system is rigged or they never put any tickets up for sale.
I must be the unluckiest person alive or the few people here who apparently managed to get tickets (some even 3 times lucky - lol) are probably paid by ticketmaster to post here and create this illusion that in fact the system is fine but you were just not fast or lucky enough to get in.

I tried every day 9:00 and 12:00 sharp for at least 10-15 minutes every time and nothing. It's a shame that such a great tournament doesn't have it's own ticketing system and deal with these Ticketmaster thieves who offer zero transparency with their process, it's a disgrace to be honest.

By comparison the french (imagine that) have a great ticketing system, i managed to get tickets for RG final this year. When they first put tickets up for sale i was number 20k in the queue and when i got in men's semis and finals were sold out and I was only able to select a pair of QF tickets but during check-out I was redirected to their third-party payment system which failed and lost my tickets and after i did not find any i liked and gave up.

A couple of days later i received this email from them:

"Dear Sir or Madam,

You were part of the tennis fans who experienced technical problems whilst trying to validate your payment on the ticketing website for Roland-Garros.

We are sincerely sorry for this inconvenience and as an exceptional measure, we will organize an additional opportunity for you to purchase tickets within the next few days."

On my second chance to buy I was able to find men's final tickets so I ended up with a better result than expected because they had these issues  .

Just to confirm , you can join British tennis as a personal member, and you get your own ballot, this is separate to the public ballot and the club ballot. with the club ballot the more club member who enter the more chance of getting tickets, the club then hold a separate ballot to distribute their allocation.

having watched Wimbledon for as long as I can remember, and never thought I would be able to go, Friday will be a special day, just wish there were some decent matches in prospect
Hsn2000
11 Jul 17 1 #136
This is true. But becomes less likely the later in the tournament. As most matches move to the show courts. Also getting a grounds ticket in the first place can be difficult if they are at maximum capacity

A few years ago an old work colleague said that he thought you could sometimes turn up after about 5pm and buy a ticket that would let you in to wander about and possibly get to see some tennis on the smaller courts. Is there any truth to any part of that? I'm not a big tennis fan but I wouldn't mind having a look around there for a bit.

have tried to get tickets for years!, dont live locally so queueing not an option, also dont want to pay £000's through authorised resellers. so last year I decided to join british tennis, and got a place in the ballot - result!. have got 2 centre court tickets for this friday, Mens semi finals. still not cheap at £155 each (but not £3k-£4k each either!) ,but well worth the £25 membership, I also got davis cup tickets last year to through the membership.

Definately are I think. Although there are still people keen on Nadal \ Fed as people have said in the above thread. I find though that most days become easier if Andy has gone out, but then my interest tends to go a bit too then also..... and my money has gone by then also

5 Jul 17 #117
Good point jdpwest, you think the murray days are more popular than the federer days (tues/thurs/sat)?
jdpwest
5 Jul 17 #116
I've always found the exact opposite in previous years. People arent too bothered in the first week and there are more returns as committees or LTA's arent keen. As it gets into the second week people see a lot more of it on the TV and are a lot more wanting to go.

I've had returns on the first day for the last 3 years but neither returns or the easier reserved on Monday of this week.

Having said that , if Murray gets knocked out , there will be loads of tickets going and the interest for most drops off massively .

From someone who has used some IT tricks in the past, I can tell you it does help a little, but only a little...
TicketMaster is a very smart organisation, if you try too quickly then they automatically fail the request.

This year is just a nightmare, Its been far better advertised, the main ticketmaster homepage has a banner promoting wimbledon...
Arsenal1234
4 Jul 17 #97
Have a read of last years thread and see the success we had this year only 2 people I know of have got in (me being one) and there has been 7 sales so far, there is definitely an issue somewhere.
zac2
4 Jul 17 #96
Yeah, Ticketmaster has been much more widely advertised this year in all sorts of guides to getting Wimbledon tickets. It's how I found out about it.
djdope
4 Jul 17 #95
Possibly but I also think more and more people are trying. I was the only one that used to try for tickets or if all my mates a couple of years ago. I now know quite a few friends that try for tickets.

4 Jul 17 #94
No luck again! Would you say chances are much greater for Court 3 tickets? Definitely luck of the draw. My mum was doing the process too on her iPad/Safari and just got the captcha tick-box more than half the time. Still no tickets.
Arsenal1234
4 Jul 17 #93
This I agree with, there can be no way they are getting in so fast and selling out so quickly with a human doing it. It takes a good 5-6 seconds for me to do the captcha which in the past has been enough, this year - no chance.

Something isn't right here!

4 Jul 17 1 #90
I'm not going on about ticket touting (but TM does have that GetMeIn website which is a bit suspect). Ticketmaster in general don't like a transparent process for getting tickets in the first place. They have no queueing system, which leads me to believe that they either have poor technology or prefer to obscure the entire process.

This year seems very different with hardly anyone getting tickets. Who knows perhaps they're even blocking a whole list of IPs (of entirely valid customers)?
jdpwest
4 Jul 17 #89
I think there are robots buying these up , not to resale but people have their own programmes to grab them before anyone else can get them. Its the only way they can be selling out so fast.

I've been going for the last 5 years via ticket master and the last 2 have been the hardest where its a case of either get a picture captcha or go straight through.

Last year I went 4 times via ticket master although 2 of those was some time after the 12 / 9 slot had opened.

Today tickets came onsale 3 seconds past and my 11 seconds past I was through captcha (no challenge) only to be told tickets had all gone. In previous years I'd of been one of the first through in that time. I can therefore only assume there are some automated systems out there grabbing whats on sale for centre court

I've managed to get tickets for today (returns) only as someone must have bugged out as it was well past 12 .

I'm not even sure I'm going to bother for the rest of the 2 weeks, ticketmaster seems to have gone to pot.

I hope I'm wrong and its just tiketmaster spreading out tickets not to just the quickest but all those who try within the first few seconds and they are going to people who arent scamming but am not sure.

Arsenal1234
4 Jul 17 #86
Usually I would agree but for Wimbledon tickets you need the ID of the person paying and the card they paid with it all must match before you get your tickets. Not to say they don't take a few but it is impossible to buy these tickets and sell on (unless you sell one ticket to a "friend")
OldCity
4 Jul 17 #85
I have the fastest browser and fastest internet in UK, that means nothing.
mrxboxps3
4 Jul 17 1 #84
Because that would be sensible and then there would be more transparency to the entire process. Imagine being in a queue and it told you your queue number (other ticketing websites do this), then you would know that if you 10,000 in the queue you were too late, but Ticketmaster have shady business practices and like people to be kept in the dark.

They all say the same thing, you will find out when you collect them. They are distributed in order of who finished the booking process.

For example, I must have been radioactive in the past as I have secured tickets in the 100 block through returns. Then in 2014 I kept refreshing hoping someone would reject a return ticket and they did, so I completed the booking process slowest and had a ticket in the 500 block.

I went several times (Central once and mostly on the other courts, from friend who knows some people who always have some spare tickets) and as soon as I seat in the chair, I can't stay awake. I find it really tiring and boring. If you don't get a ticket, it's not a big deal. It looks much better on the telly. Although, if you've never been there, it's good if you can get a ticket just to experience it.

What is the difference between RESERVED tickets and RETURN tickets (the latter is a bit self-explanatory)
jdpwest to kazka
30 Jun 17 1 #7
:-) good question and one that will be asked many times over the next 2 weeks.

The easiest way to descrive it is that Reserved are always in the back of the court , normally the back 4 rows of so and there are a lot more (but still not many) available.

Returns are tickets that a coach / LTA couldnt use or one that someone has tried to re sell outside of Wimbledons strick policies. These tickets could be anywhere in the court , either near the back but normally near the middle.

So Returns are a better bet, but reserved are more likely.

I'm going to the US Open in New York this year! (y) so not overly concerned on going on center court so want to give court 3 a try. Anyone had success with court 3?

Also I went twice to Wimbledon last year the Saturday and middle Sunday had a great time at both so it is possible to get tickets!
