At recording yourself speeding moments before a crash and the other insurance blaming you because you were doing 32mph in the 30 zone. Stay clear of GPS as it is not needed, serves no purpose other than to show YOUR speed and as I say you go over the 30mph the other party will have a field day.

Personally i still use a Mobius dash cam - does everything i need and been going strong for just over 3 years now. Small and discreet so is hard wired into the car and only really visible if you know it's there and looking for it.

Also the cps decided not to press charges, that does not mean that the insurance would not have paid out.

You stated 'court cases' but then only produced one example (& the only reason the person that crashed into them got away with it is the driver cannot be identified). Oh and dash cam footage is admissible as evidence in court and you can even be prosecuted by other motorists dash cam footage.

It is powered by USB so i removed the 12v socket from the dashboard and hard wired it into this.

Some insurers claim to offer a discount, a believe AXA actually ask if you have a dash cam when getting a quote, what difference it actually makes i don't know.

One thing to state though, if you attempt to make a claim (or counter claim) and you forgot to plug your dash cam in that day or for whatever reason it is not available, don't be surprised if the insurance company attempt to void the claim

if a case such as this which is so abundantly clear what has happened isn't prosecuted, it makes me question what the point is in having them

Don't know about the insurance bit but I have this:- Mio MiVue DashCam, Dashboard Camera, Full HD, GPS, 2.4" screen in my truck.
It goes into parking mode when I'm parked and if there's any movement it records automatically. Does need constant power.
Paid about 70 quid about a year ago.

Can anybody help me with some questions?

1 - would insurance companies offer a reduction in premium for having a dash cam in the vehicle?
2 - are there any models that can record overnight I.e when the car is parked and not being driven?

I would be interested in some examples of these unsuccessful cases. Are you saying people have been in accidents not their fault and the video has been dismissed as evidence?

was tempted by a dashcam, but recent court cases have been unsuccessful so I've shelved it for now. My advice to anyone if they have an accident and they wish to pursue it, immediately following make sure u can get the dashcam out the car itself and show a video of you in the car etc as there footage itself is not proof it occurred against you or even in your car.

Not going to comment other than I bought 2 of the NextBase cams and they are very good - got them from Halfords who wired them in for £30 - yes i guess people may be able to do it themselves but considering the hardwire kit costs £20 and is included in the £30 it was a no brainer for me.

The Nextbase has wireless too, so you can download clips from the cam straight to your smartphone plus a powered magnetic holder which keeps it secure whilst driving

Get the viofo a119, cheaper, uses a capacitor rather than battery. Won many top budget web cam awards, available with GPS or not. If you get GPS you can turn it off in the menu, great picture.

I've got a different dashcam, but with this same feature. It's a great feature...if you want your phone's storage to fill up and have no mobile data whilst driving (no spotify, Google maps, etc.)

Personally I prefer the look of these smaller ones, there are a few brands that look similar and can be had cheaper with gps also

I was also looking at the Nextbase 312GW - unsure which one is best, though.

I know the Nextbase has GPS, but the Roadhawk doesn't.
