Long time watcher (and buyer) thought I'd finally post as this looks like a great deal. The XZs wasn't released in the UK for some reason but is (almost) flagship specs in a smaller package. It includes the camera that the XZ premium has (super slo-mo) if that's something you're keen on. Did the usual Sony trick of being released at the wrong price, €650! Already a much more reasonable €490 on Amazon Italy, which with delivery to the UK comes to £422 (don't ask me why the price goes down when you checkout). The rate of the price drop should give some hope for those keen on the XZ Premium and waiting for it to go cheaper. The XZs has only been available for ~2 months.

This is what I'm struggling with and putting me off buying this. I'm coming from a Z1 Compact and with the bezels on this thing I can get a much bigger screen in almost the same size package (mind you, G6 and S8 still much more expensive). I'm hoping given Sony's haphazard release cycle there's a latest and greatest successor to the Z5 compact due later this year, but not sure I can hang on that long.

I have a Z3, so glad I didnt go for the Z5, such bad reviews but hoping the XZ premium will be good. The only thing that worries me is still the camera, I think its crap on the Z3 and have also seen reports of the same on the Z5 so hope they've improved it. The S8 can be had for £500 so not a huge difference on this deal.

just looked into this more, it's not the compact successor maybe i shouldn't have taken the op s words as Sonys. this is the successor to the Xperia XZ this is the new XZs that's it. i thought it stood for "small" as i thought the OP was saying small flagship. the x compact is still the small flagship IMO (which I'm using) of anyone has found a better small flagship phone let me know!

Sorry, wasn't meant to be misleading. The 'smaller' was with reference to the XZ Premium, which is a beast. I'm with you on the size, hence my comment aboe in hoping for a proper successor to the Z5 Compact (X Compact was weirdly positioned as a not quite flagship from what I remember).

no worries just got me excited lol, just so you know while the x compact isn't a true successor to the Z5 compact i find it's a much better phone, i find it runs way better, the extra ram makes all the difference when i play Pokémon GO and want to switch to whatapp etc, finger print sensor is instant! only downside i see is the lack of waterproofing

How did you get this for £422?
When I checkout it comes to £444.84 when selecting GBP or €487.51 when selecting EUR.

current exchange rate is around 1.14

Interested to hear your views on the X Compact camera. I've read conflicting reviews, and it's probably the "thing" I use most on my phones.
I have an LG G4 just now, which is lovely, but just that bit too big.

Its the same as the XZ I believe, I don't know about the fancy new sensors but I personally have not come across any issues where I feel the camera is not performing in a situation (except the lens being dirty, just have to remember to wipe), I find with good light photos come out amazing but with lower light you can see some noise/cameras attempt to adjust which maybe expected. Other than that when viewing the photos the camera takes time to "render?" the highest quality which may be down to the X compacts midrange chipset.

It sounds as thought there'll be 4.6 inch XZ1 compact in September which will come with a Snapdragon 835 and 4gb of ram. Probably what you're after.

Me too but only if it's waterproof. Basically I just want a refreshed Z3 Compact with a decent camera that might actually rival a Samsung or iPhone for once.
But at this point I'm resigned to being offered none of the above. Shame, as Sony were pretty much the only manufacturer offering this form factor which, for me, was perfect.

I went from a Z1C to a Z5C, and am happy TBH. Dunno what I'll get next but thats a year away.
As for waterproof, my OHs daughter dropped her XA in the bath last night. I thought it was waterproof, now dead :disappointed:

I have the xz and xz premium, camera much better then z3, the slow motion really works, and if you choose xz or xz premium there both good, with good performance

Recieved my phone today and not happy. Packaging does not have the original cellophane wrapping just a poorly placed void seal sticker. Possibly a return/refurbished phone? Not really on at this price point. Will be going back. Now have the fun of dealing with amazon italy...

What a disappointment! FWIW I've returned a few things to amazon.de and found it to be completely painless. I think, when I used the customer service chat it might even have all been in English.
