Yet another price drop for Samsung Galaxy S8 on Amazon.it!

Now only 565.44 Euro with shipping, which comes down to 495ish pounds when using a 0% card (depending on rate I have seen this fluctuate today between 494 and 496 pounds). Note these are TiM network phones, but apparently the only branding is a little logo on the box. Might need to update firmware to UK version if you're looking for wifi calling. More info in comments here. Both in stock., so no waiting 2-3 weeks like previously.

Both in stock at time of posting. If you are bothered about this being TiM network, Silver can be had for 10 Euro more.

First time the S8 can be had for under 500 bones!! If that was your sweet spot, know that the time has come, mine is due for delivery 22.-24.06

Cheers!

Op says 465 euros

Typo, should read 565 euros

- robodan918

Thanks edited!

Note BRANDED PHONES ALMOST ALWAYS HAVE BRANDED FIRMWARE. Android updates will be pushed by TIM network rather than Samsung as with the unbranded/international variant. You may face update delays or region specific feature changes

A friend of mine crashed a new BMW M3 into a wall and did £10,000 of damage to the car.

BMW say its not covered under the warranty either. Ridiculous.

I prefer the black one. Will flash official UK rom with odin, which doesn't void warranty. Problem sorted, voila

the finger print scanner is a bit annoying, can always go for face though although maybe just when at home/work and turn it off when somewhere it can get lost in public. and i totally second the bixby button, i keep pressing it, i have no use what so ever for it and its the most annoying aspect of the phone.

I'm wondering what tempered glass cases anyone has used with a link please. i got some with top customer reviews from amazon £12 each and they are bad, no sticking to phone properly, sides dont detecting fingers and it kind of squeaks when you press in places because it isn't a snug fit and lifts off at sides. other halfs going mad with his (its worse than mine)

the price has increased for the black one, the initial post was for a TIM branded S8, others decided for 10EUR more worth getting unbranded. i imagine a lot have been sold now and price has gone up, silver is cheapest sold by amazon.it , personally i wouldn't buy from 3rd party. list of sold by amazon.it S8's

Black Articles:EUR 594.66 Shipping cost:EUR 5.77(Total amount: EUR 600.43)Total payment:GBP 548.80

apparently theres next day delivery available for about 12EUR too

Can someone tell me where to buy black unbranded version and sold and dispatched by Amazon for the OP price? When I check on Amazon.it it's pretty expensive. Are you all buying from a different seller but dispatched by Amazon? If so please share the name of the seller. Thanks.

Received mine this morning. I'm in love! I've upgraded from the OnePlus 2 - had that about 2 years. Waited for the OnePlus 5 but wasn't all that impressed when it was released so bought the S8 for £70ish more. Definitely the right decision, the phone's a beast.

i waited for op5 to release then read all of the reviews, comparing s8 & op5 they said go for op5 if money is a problem, if you have the money go for the s8, obviously they were comparing the s8 @ uk prices, knowing with this thread i could get an s8 for roughly same price, i decided there and then it was the s8 for me. =)

Help me decide whether to buy oneplus 5 or S8. The only thing going for oneplus 5 is 4gb ram and less bloat ware vs a superior screen and looks and camera. From the latest reviews oneplus 5 is average at best and only slightly better than oneplus 3t. At the same price range I'm leaning towards s8 but wondered if anyone else thinks otherwise? Is exynos processor on par with snapdragon? Or can I get snapdragon version in Europe?

did you order the unbranded black one? how is the warranty is there anything inside the package about that? or the warranty is euwide based on the receipt?
TomT
23 Jun 17 #143
Thanks for the reply. Nationwide currently show the following on their web site :

€100 = £87.69
They charge 2% non sterling fee.
So €100 Euro ends up costing 89.44

So if the phone is €600 that should cost £536.64
is that right ?

Which deal is the best one to go for ?
Thanks

Phone arrived today and all fine - looking forward to trying it out this weekend. It came out at £517 all together using a Clarity Credit Card which included expedited delivery, which I think is a great deal.

On a separate point, I have been looking at insurance for the phone and have seen terms and conditions saying they do not cover phones bought outside the UK. Has anyone else come across this/ can recommend a good company to use that would cover the phone? Thanks.

Beware the exchange rates as well. They tend to suck big time.
In regards to which phone, I would definitely go for the S8. It's got pretty much the same internals as the OP5 but much better camera, thinner edges and it doesn't look like an iPhone.

Ordered this yesterday using my FairFX Euro card which is supposed to have a really good exchange rate. However using Google converter it said it should cost me £512, but £525 was deducted from my card. Still pretty cheap though. Getting it delivered to the Netherlands so we'll see what happens. 22 Jun 17 #127
why are people paying with 0% cards, you can select to pay in GBP before checkout. Or am i missing something?

EDIT: i see now and i have my brain working lol, i realised amazon charged me £39.86 for gbp conversion, i dont have any 0% currency conversion cards. So i just used my good old halifax card, which after a search states a 2.75% charge on non sterling purchases, which would come to £28.03 i believe, feeling a bit sore and mugged of buy dont know if i can be bothered to cancel etc for saving £5 per phone.
Postage has increased a couple of euros now when i try to replicate the order too! (poo)

after comparing the packaging to the razor blades one I believe that I was sent razor blades by mistake from Amazon. the packaging with the s8 was really bulged where as the one with razor blade didn't look like it had the s8 from beginning.

i just checked on my phone and it said phone delivered. I didn't even here anybody knock!!. went down and found a card saying parcel behind board. went out to have a look nothing there  sh1t me pants thinking I'd been scammed again.

went in living room and seen the parcel that looked chunkier than the previous one and inside a shiny s8.

I was told by Amazon package would be sealed with tape and driver will not drop anywhere else but that it wasn't the case. still same packaging with flaps.

however I'm glad it's finally here.

My understanding is that there is no fee charged for paying in euros with a clarity card, where there is with many other credit cards (usually around 3% i think). The exchange rate is set by mastercard and can be checked online. I will know for sure in the next couple of days when my clarity card is billed.

a counter to that is the s8 screen can develop cracks easily after a drop due to nature of curved screen.
johnnystorm
21 Jun 17 2 #117
As far as I see it, I'd go S8 personally because:

Better Camera, thats a priority for me. I like taking pics, don't use stand alone cameras.

The Samsung screens are without equal and its a device that needs to be looked at close up.

Peripherals will be easier to come by, cases, etc.

The OP dash charge is all well and good but for the S8, Amazon, etc will have countless Qualcomm quick charge compatible chargers for the car, office, etc

Waterproofing. Walking/riding about outdoors with a £500 device that is open to damage from moisture is just not acceptable anymore!

Maybe people stopped thinking its a good deal given that one store in NI apparently sold these for 483. Who cares about the heat though, as long as some people can get a decent deal on a high end product (which I think this is), then the purpose of this post is fulfilled. Honestly it makes absolutely no difference if its 500, 5000 or -5000 degrees

Thanks, glad it worked out well for you. I wouldnt hold your horses for friday delivery though, it is much more likely to get delivered next week (first one I ordered the payment cleared and it wasnt even shipped 2 days later, but thats good as I was able to cancel it and go unbranded). Also if you used revolut and that was first time, expect some issues that might slow down the process (in my case amazon initially debited 1Euro to authorize the card, then since i didnt have enough funds i had to top up more and when they tried to take money my account got locked for security reasons... a bit of time spent with CS chat and all got sorted out). Good luck

627 Euro sold by amazon, so a bit dearer. The one from TIM network is still 569 Euro (a bit cheaper when added to basket): https://www.amazon.it/Samsung-Smartphone-Memoria-Interna-Orchidea/dp/B071NS9GC8/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1498040027&sr=1-3&keywords=samsung+s8+tim

Edit: Shipping for this is quite long though, eta when i tried to check out was showing as 10-28.07 for me
Edit 2: Having had a quick look, the orchid grey is only colour now available from amazon with TIM branding (cheapest option at 569 Euro), Orchid unbranded is 627 Euro, but other 2 colors are still available unbranded for 579 Euro (all prices go down about 10 Euro when added to basket)

Themadcow
21 Jun 17 1 #97
Warranty should be fine as sold within the EU (well, for the time being anyway) and would be honored by Samsung / Amazon.

Charger would be a 2 pin Euro version, but I'd imagine that isn't an issue for most people. However, the charging port is the new USB shape (type C reversible) so the cable from the charger to the phone is the important bit and that will be fine.

20 Jun 17 #92
Agreed. Spent about 4 hours today sorting out various issues with Revolut, largely because their live chat support are clearly trying to deal with at least a dozen people at once, so each response takes 5-15 minutes.

Although they say you'll be able to purchase online 'in minutes' with their virtual card, in reality the security checks both from themselves and the retailer means that's more like 'within many hours if you hassle a lot'.

Hoping that now I've successfully used it once it might be easier in future. On the other hand, will have a new S8 tomorrow (and a new S7 Edge to sell!).
Buckar00
20 Jun 17 #91
ok guys i was holding off on this to see what the oneplus 5 reveal came up with. OP5 has a better camera, bigger battery and cpu but as i see it thats it and the 128gb is 499 and no sd card slot, reviews say OP5 for price when compared to S8 but theyre comparing the S8 at £6-800

Rofl, still trying to resolve this by dealing with an overseas customer service forcing me to chat to Amazon Italy in Italian (thank god for Google Translate) to get a transaction reversal code to allow the money to go back onto my Revolut card so I can recharge it to Amazon. Nuts.

Then they want me to screenshot my conversations with Amazon to confirm the transaction reversal before they can authorise giving me my money back.

Revolut - great idea, Worst customer experience, ever.
Themadcow

Mine (went for the Silver unbranded) seems to be scheduled for delivery Thurs or Friday this week. Not bad.

Irrespective of the fingerprint scanner - this phone is still very much in the top 3 of flagship phones for things that matter to me - power, screen, camera and waterproofing... and it looks pretty damn awesome too. Shame the battery couldn't be more meaty but apparently it performs pretty well if you don't crank the screen up to 1440p.

19 Jun 17 #71
What annoying features? The finger scanner on the back is a pain but that's about the only thing wrong with the phone, Bixby doesn't work yet but I can't see that would stop anybody buying the phone, perhaps it just that people are keeping their SG7's longer, or just waiting to see what iPhone does with the "8" which is rumoured to be a big update for it's 10th anniversary year?

yes they have. superb customer service. they initially wanted to send a replacement but I just don't want to take the risk. the packaging is the one that is used for a book or cds which can be accessed from side flaps without breaking seal.

a £500 phone should be packaged securely.

If you want a bigger battery than the S8 go for the S8+. The S8 still has a bigger battery than S7.

The S8 is depreciating much faster than its predecessors and my question is, why ? It's quite worrying

1. Use Google Chromes translate feature, should pop up with a button to translate once you're on the page.

2. Sign up for a Revolut Card, it lets you convert currencies without any extra fees that you usually get from using a regular bank account.

I should have enough left to cover 1 Euro but just have a notification on Revolut showing a 0 Euro transaction for approval since yesterday afternoon. Will try their CS.

Cheers for the response.

I tried using Revolut to order one yesterday and it doesn't seem to have worked - just sitting awaiting authorisation. Anyone had luck ordering from Amazon Italy with Revolut?
Elbandito to Themadcow
17 Jun 17 #25
I topped up my account to have 566 euro to cover, but Amazon has taken 1 Euro to authorize the card. I didn't have enough balance and got payment declined. Amazon cs said the 1 euro would be refunded shortly, and the I can update to pay again. Perhaps it's same with yours?

I don't think you need to unlock bootloader (according to xda https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3598172 ). Either way official room does not trip Knox so it does no void warranty

worse battery than s7 edge confused
Willzzz to mattster
17 Jun 17 #18
Because the base S8 is equivalent to the base S7 and both have the same size battery.
On the plus side the S8 has a more power efficient processor.

The OnePlus 5 better be less than 500 otherwise probably not worth bothering might as well get the S8!
Dragon32 to mchu6am4

That's what I'm thinking.

Especially if the rumors are true and it's only an HD screen (will be using it occasionally for VR so at least a 2K screen would be nice).

17 Jun 17 #15
Will this work in UK
jameswalker457
17 Jun 17 1 #14
don't you have to unlock the boot loader to flash UK ROM? which will void your warranty?

Also check the specs are the same I.e. antenna bands. I'm tempted around this price.

My 1+1 is going strong but at this price I'll probably move away from 1+ in the future.
jimbisquitt
17 Jun 17 1 #13
you did better then me. First one was just an empty box. Amazon.it shipped a 2nd S8+ to me but I did open the empty package in front of the Amazon delivery driver so I had her as a witness. I recommend opening it in from of the amazon delivery driver or film the opening just in case.

Didn't see before... It's branded which comes with a potential mess of issues when it comes to android updates

I'd recommend unbranded / international variant

When added to basket, it comes up as:
