You can also get a very good pair of plates from Amazon for £12 inc del. I've bought at least 3 sets from here in the past.

£12 is the normal price so should confirm that £6.98 for one plate, as shown on this deal, is not a special price.

I know. I was surprised also as I expected Halfords and other motor factors to be the best for price so never tried the main dealer before.

Edit - Actually my memory failed me slightly. I've just checked my statement and it was actually £9.84. Still a good price.

1. As others have said, this is not legal. You are not allowed to supply number plates for road vehicles without viewing your V5C, suitable ID and recording proof of doing so.
2. The price isn't brilliant. My local main VW dealer only charges £8 and throws in fixings for that price too.
3. A friend of mine once bought a plate from ebay and it took 3 attempts for them to provide one that wasn't defective. I know the same can happen where-ever you buy them, but at least you can inspect them immediately when made locally.

Should be fine for those that need one for a trailer or to go over a stack of bikes on a rear bike rack? Seems a decent price to me delivered.

The law is simple, the plates on your car must meet regulations and the only way currently to get regulation plates is through a proper licensed vendor and on production of the original V5 or a Cherished Plate retention certificate.

If you're caught with a non-reg plate the Police can report you to the DVLA, if you're caught again the DVLA can withdraw your registration.

Ask yourself, is it worth it to save a couple of £?

You used to be able to buy them legally mail-order from Scotland without v5, not sure if that's still true. South of the border traders like to claim these are 'display' plates, meant for use in shows when quizzed. However, as they are usually compliant - correct sizes and bear the postcode of the maker (or actually any postcode, as the tester is unlikely to check), they'll pass an MOT.

I thought you had to supply V5/ID when ordering new plates?
