If you have the misfortune of being on O2 like me, it might be worth checking your account on the app.
I ran out of data this month, as I quite often do, and went onto the app to see if there is a one-off top up available to see me through.
While I was looking, it asked me if I wanted to change to a higher allowance tariff, and while I was scrolling through these, I noticed that the monthly payment for 6GB was the same as my current 3GB.
This is probably linked to the fact they have a double promotion on new contracts too. It didn't mention how long it lasts for (if it's just a promotion).
This doesn't extend your current contract (thank God) and kicks in on the first of the month.
The image doesn't show the allowance, but it will cover me if they try to lock me in or charge me more!
So basically I'm now paying £32 for 6GB unlimited / unlimited instead of 3GB unlimited / unlimited (edit. which includes my phone).
Edit. I should probably add this contract cost includes my Galaxy S7 edge which I got on release last year! Not sim only!!

I'm with o2 and have been for years. When my recent contract ended they wanted to charge me £48 for a contract that new customers would get for £35. So took out a new contract and switched my number over. So I'm £35 for unl/unl/20gb. Sometimes it doesn't pay to be loyal.

Can't seem to get it on my contract. I get offered less for the same price as the contract I'm on. Though with their terrible customer service and their beyond poor coverage I hope to cancel as soon as I can!!

I can assure you there is nothing funny about my tariff  before my upgrade I was paying 28pm for double what I'm getting now... Stupidly though I smashed my old phone, got offered a free early upgrade so jumped in without shopping around.

Currently on unl/unl/10gb for £18.46 sim only with O2. Looked at the offer of £18 for 20gb, initially thought no brainer... until I checked with O2 and they said my current deal will roll on after 12 months (same rate increase each April). The new offer expired after 12 months and then went up to £33, unless I upgraded again after 3 months. I'll stick, for now

Sweet, I just logged in and went to "change my tariff"- was on £32.31 for unlimited unlimited 3Gb (new HTC10, for anyone wondering why so high), and it showed the 5Gb version for £35 or the 6Gb version for £32.31! So doubled my data FOC.
Good work OP, pity I can't give you double heat.

Ill give this a try when I come to upgrade next July. If I got a deal from another company but on an O2 contract, would I still be able to keep the same number? O2 always get a lot of stick, but they have always been good with me.

This is for new contracts only As all carphonewarehouse sub companies offer double data as per my contract which was 3g doubled to 6g obviously this has created a small loop and added a bonus to existing accounts.take advantage why you can people because it's obviously a blip.im hot for everyone who gets the bonus

Yea I hate the network, I only got with them as they had by far the best deal on the S7 Edge at the time.
Where I lived in the Midlands the service was absolutely disgraceful - it's not so bad back in Northern Ireland so I will begrudgingly see it out and then take out a new one with EE, 3 or Vodafone next March / April time.
This deal, though is as beneficial for people who like the network as it is for people like myself wanting to make the most of a bad situation!

Out of curiosity, how are you getting these deals? The deals on the website are always terribly overpriced. I used my works o2 open code last time, which discounts the air time by 20% and even then its unl/unl/3gb for around £36 a month. Are these deals from the retention team or something?

I got mine on a redemption deal, I actually pay £31 but it goes down to £21 by claiming back money every few months. Been doing these deals for a few years now, never had an issue. In fact sent off just yesterday for my latest cashback. I tend to find mobiles.co.uk best for O2 deals but always best to shop around, they just happen to have deals on the phones I want.
