you're basing your comment/opinion off one or two defective products when Samsung's entire catalogue of products probably goes into the THOUSANDS.....
TVs, Laptops, Fridges, PC Monitors, HiFi Audio Equipment, Mobile phones, Tablets, Washing Machines/Tumble Dryers, Microwaves, Ink & Laser Printers, Scanners, Dishwashers, Air Conditioners, Digital Camera's, Ovens, Hobs, cooking Hoods/Extractor fans, RAM for Computers & Graphics cards, NAND Chips for SSDs
840 Evos had a problem - But how many AWARD WINNING SSDs have Samsung released since they started making SSDs?? but my question is skewed by the fact that other manufacturers buy NAND chips from them to build their SSDs and mobile phones with!! Same with Computer RAM and it doesnt matter if its for your PC or Graphics card. They help supply the entire industry.
The Note 7 debacle -- Not Samsung's finest hour to say the least. But Samsung have been making mobile phones for YEARS and they have released many a successful product since they've been at it just like with their SSDs & the rest of the other stuff that they make.
But like my Boss always says... You can do thousands of things right but the moment you do something wrong. Thats the one thing they will remember the most and they will curse your soul for it.
Could Samsung of handled the Note 7 debable better? of course. But their problem was they rushed to get the Note 7 released before the new iphone and that is what f**k*d them up, Their greed and overeagerness to get their product out first became their undoing.
If Samsung are known for 'Poor Engineering' then you my friend should be known for having a 'Poor Opinion'

It's not a matter of conjecture as to whether its one or two SSDs as both the 840 and the 840 Evo which were different generations were both seriously flawed. If they'd recalled them then I would not complain but they didn't and let users hang for over a year in some cases. So it's not just poor engineering but terrible customer service. As for all their other thousands of products I don't know and neither do you I imagine. But when it comes to technology that relates to computing they have released THREE of the worst products in the last 5 years.

64 quid for a brand that used to make cd/dvd drives?! And its not even in stock. I would rather pay the extra 20 quid and grab a samsung one or just wait till something better comes along.

The irony being that Samsung are also known for making CD/DVD drives as well as fridges etc. Plextor SSDs were considered premium 5 or so years ago but can't comment on the current range. The company have a history of being considered a maker of quality products. When I look at Samsung and the debacle that was the 840 and to a lesser extent the 840 Evo I can't say I see them as having a good reputation in recent years. I bought a Plextor and an 840 Evo in the last 5 years and only the Plextor has proved to be a reliable model with the Samsung suffering from seriously degraded performance which they struggled to fix for over a year. They left people with a substandard drive for all that time when they should have recalled them which a proper company like Intel would have done. Bu then again Samsung are known for poor engineering as per their Note phone range but at least they recalled those.

use sleep mode on a 16gb/32gb or 64gb machine and that disappears, that said, with ssds powering off makes more sense

Apple don't make SSDs. It's not super fast (faster than a mechanical drive though) but it's designed to last longer.
It's a pretty good price for 256GB SSD, unless of course you know of something cheaper?

the intel 545s is using 64 layer 3d nand. The others (inc samsung) will be there shortly with 64/72 layer nand, this will mean lower prices and or higher capacities at the same price. This is also partly the reason why we currently have high prices

Plextor were also the actual manufacturer of some of the earlier Intel SSDs AFAIK. That is back when Intel SSDs were actually good rather now when they get rushed to market like the new 545s where StorageReview concluded that: "The Intel 545S will make a good HDD replacement for most consumers, once its firmware bug is patched." storagereview.com/int…iew

I mentioned this last week and no one was interested and just a heads up I've had one on pre for a fortnight and still no date for delivery it don't look like we will be getting these. I needed a reliable drive for my server after my main download drive failed it was partitioned into C and D and because of all the reading and writing it killed my drive and caused me a real pain getting my server all up and running again so this time I purchased a WD Blue for a boot drive and nothing more and one of these for downloads. The reason I went with the plextor over the rest was not speed but the reliability of it average life of the drive is massive it has a life double of most drives it was around 170tb written and you could write 52gb a day to it and it would last 7 years. So that's what I needed and I'm still waiting.

Good price, have a Plextor ssd from 2013 still going strong.
