I also bought on day one, suffered horrendous sickness and sold it 3 weeks later (thankfully because of the low supply, for a small profit). I just think anyone considering buying this needs to try it first. The nausea is a real issue for many people.

Oh and the graphics are terrible, all the "of screen" footage is REALLY misleading!

Completely disagree and blanket statements like that will only put people off.

Why isn't it fun in your opinion?

I personally found VR extremely immersive and whilst it's not without it's issues, so many wires and blatant screen door, it opens a new way of experiencing games.

Does need more content available though.

Exactly! Especially considering you need to then buy the PS camera and ideally the PS Move things...plus where are the games??! There's no buzz around VR as far as I've seen.

I get this as well - if you go through the "Pain Barrier" the sickness will go away and you will get used to it - Takes a week or 2 - and as a bonus you can read in a car or anything - I normally get travel sick as well - You need to keep it up as if you stop it all goes back to normal in a few weeks

You didn't give it a chance then. In this case I suspect the 'small profit' was more of a lure than the weak stomach.

Same here. Preordered as soon as it was announced, received on release day and it was already sold about a week later.

Big disappointment. Main issues being:
- the horrible mess of cables
- cinema mode kept sliding and had to be readjusted every few minutes
- no real games, yet everything priced at same cost as a full AAA game
- major motion sickness on pretty much all the games I wanted to play eg Rigs and Driveclub
- as someone who has limited gaming/free time, "training" myself to become adjusted to the sickness by playing to the point of sickness a short while everyday isn't exactly my idea of fun

A few of the games and experiences were playable and had a lot of fun but they weren't good enough to justify £400+ worth of it (including camera and controllers), plus the cost of the games themselves.

Yes let's all bash a brand new technology for not being totally perfect (as well as dirt cheap) immediately after release.

Imagine all the technology that wouldn't exist today if everybody ditched a new idea immediately without having the time to refine it.

VR is impressive already but it will be incredible if all the morons don't kill it first with their negativity.

26 Jun 17 6 #15
This isn't really the website to get an accurate review or opinion on VR, as everyone on here thinks companies should give us their goods for nothing.

VR is enthusiast at the moment, high cost of entry and limited content available, if you doing it expecting a return on investment you're wasting your money.

If you have an interest and want to experience games in a new way, and have the cash spare to not miss it, go for it.
MarcoLoves360

how good is this for PC games?
Rustybucket
26 Jun 17 #17
Good grief. Polarising opinions on here. Can't people have different experiences with the same kit? Maybe people who have spent time with the headset have convinced themselves it's worth the money. Perhaps people who were suckered in by the hype have less disposable income to throw at VR that resolution wise is poorer quality than sticking a phone in Google Cardboard.

The fact is, if you're being expected to pay more for a peripheral than the actual console it better feel like it's providing a similar sense of value. As it is, most of the titles available feel like tech demos and support seems to be dropping off if anything, rather than established popular titles supporting the headset with backwards compatibility.

If VR is going to make any real impression to the public it needs to be below £199.99, be less encumbered by wires and have much better resolution.

And all of this is just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.
Uridium
26 Jun 17 3 #18
for those tempted but the "All those wires" comments are making you think twice....Don't

One pair of joined wires from the breakout box to the headset.(the only ones you see really)
One wire from Breakout box to PS4
One wire from Breakout box to the TV....

The cables really aren't as bad as some would make you think....

The biggest pain for me with the cables is the lack of HDR passthrough on the breakout box,....its a pain but not a show stopper.
I use a separate HDMI cable from the PS4 to the breakout box and then a HDMI cable from breakout box to a spare Input on the TV.

This means when I'm not using PSVR I can just plug my usual HDMI cable from PS4 into my AVR receiver to TV for 4K HDR.....When I want to use PSVR I just use the other HDMI cable into the PS4. Not perfect but only one cable to swap ove rin the back of the PS4

This plus a few killer games.

The challenge with VR is making it impressive enough at a decent price point.

I do want to check out VR but I'm staying in the wait and see camp.
MrBrightside1987
26 Jun 17 #20
Agree with both comments.

I think VR developers shouldn't just focus on the negativity, but use that feedback and take the time to refine it and make it incredible and suitable for masses rather than shutting down what might be something amazing tech in the years to come.

I'd hope for these negative moron killers do learn that VR at present isn't the end of VR, but just the beginning and maybe they'll come back to it once it is every bit as good as the enthusiasts assure us that it can be.

Yes, agreed that it's certainly something aimed more at enthusiasts. If you're just an "average consumer" hoping for the same value for money that you might get from spending the same money on say a games console then you'll most likely be disappointed, whereas if you've got the cash to spare and would like to experience the tech then it's probably worth getting.

Is there anywhere to demo these before buying? I'm in Cambridge
FNB
26 Jun 17 #22
I bought one had it around 5 months and most of the time it's just been sat on the tv stand. The graphics are terrible and the games are basically demos. Way too many cables makes it look like a right mess. It also steams up easily. Not worth it for that price. Give it a miss. Worth about £100 max if that.

26 Jun 17 1 #24
I have been on the fence about one of these for a long time (for all the reasons above).
Just can't justify it at the current pricing, although I remain sorely tempted.

I used a Vive at Thorpe Park last week and was very impressed, although I thought the resolution was slightly blurry.
Has anyone used a Vive and a PSVR - is the PSVR really that much worse?
JezJezJez to zeroquai
26 Jun 17 #31
Ive use the Vive a lot and think it's very similar graphically to the PSVR. Swings and roundabouts (especially if you have the PS4 pro)
Uridium
26 Jun 17 2 #25
I ummed and arred for many months.....the recent price drop to bundles for £350 with camera and a couple of games was enough for me to bite.
the first game of Dirt Rally in 3D had me hooked, yes it had tearing and yes the grpahics aren't as pretty as playing it on my 4K TV, yes I got a little motion sickness but it passes and it's worth it for me for the new dimension it adds to gaming. I don't have the hours I used to have free for gaming, just an odd hour here and there, this meant for me that games like zero dawn etc,..take me months to play. With PS VR the titles may be shorter lifespan but that suits me fine, 30mins here and there on Rigs or Farpoint is all I have and I love playing them in VR.
If you haven't tired PS VR please don't be swayed by reviews or youtube videos....you have to try it first hand to see whether it suits you or not, reviews really don't do it justice.
so Yes a Vive or Rift is much better quality but you need a PC costing at least the price of a PS4 and PSVR and then the same again for a headset. Yes If your a graphics tart the Vive or Rift is probably a better option...but as is the case in most of the best gaming experiences there is a lot more to PSVR than just the graphics....

btw....for 3D BluRay playback the PSVr headset blows away the 3D on any TV I've viewed before....so If you a 3D movie fan you'll love it, it's like a 100" TV in front of your face.

Amazing piece of kit tbh. Great for family or friends that come over, really immerses you into the game. Only cons- the wiring is a right mess and very untidy and the resolution isnt the greatest.
paulanscombe
26 Jun 17 2 #27
All the fools claiming the headset should be half the price it is haha.. it is NEW tech! it isnt cheap. like it or lump it.
And some pointers for people on the fence:

1. the cables are not a mess! its basically 1 cable to your headset..
2. the graphics are not "terrible". the screen is in 720p resolution so the framerate can be sky high to reduce motion sickness/blur. (did the lack of 1080p hurt nintendo folks? thought not.)
3. the price of £320 compared to the Vive and Rift is a steal!
4. PSVR support is NOT dwindling.. if you know anything about games then you would know of all the upcoming releases and announcements. (sony even gave it spotlight at there E3 show this year)
5. ignore the people who make claims but have not even tried the headset or VR at all. (it IS incredible)
JezJezJez

I think it's great, games like Resident Evil and Farpoint are immense - especially with the new Aim controller for the latter.

Arizona Sunshine (Zombie shooter adventure) is out tomorrow and looks like a lot of fun.

I suppose it's not for everyone, however everyone I know who have tried mine were instantly hooked. It's difficult to go back to normal 2D games after.

I do have a pro - I was more worried about the resolution of the display itself - but I suppose rendering at a higher res on the Pro and then downsampling may resolve some of the blur.

Still on the fence but very temptd!!

Can't wait to get one at the end of the year. Looking forward to playing RE7, Dirt, Star Trek, Skyrim, Doom, Robinson, Batman, Ace combat, Farpoint, Driveclub, Rigs, Sports Bar but then again if I read comments on here you would think these games must only be demo's.

like others, i pre-ordered and got on release day but sold it about a week later, i couldn't deal with the motion sickness in DriveClub and others, was really, really bad. The wires didn't bother me at all, but what did was all those lovely promo shots of VR games in hi-res and then you play the actual thing and, particularly in the case of DriveClub, I wouldn't say they were even PS1 standard, very misleading advertising. I was incredibly excited about VR but it has put me off for a couple of generations at least.

One thing that was excellent though was a short 'movie' called i think 'Alumette' very immersive and moving, if anyone has VR and hasn't yet tried it i can heartily recommend it...
JezJezJez
26 Jun 17 #39
I went from a standard to a pro and did notice quite a difference in quality. I don't really notice a blur. Have a look at games like Batman, Farpoint and Resi and I really don't think you'll be on the fence for long!

Don't bother, hardly any support at E3 2017 for PlayStation VR. PS4 Pro seems dead on arrival, not enough power for true 4K.

i got one on release and a ps4 pro,and for 800+ outlay i was not impressed at all, this soured my opinion of it massively
some valid point raised and if your looking at it negatively then they seem like deal breakers(i sold the full set up to start,i have however managed to get the full set up((pro, moves, games, camera, headset)for 350 and looking at everything from a "bargain" viewpoint its awesome) however as stated you have loads of wires while setting up,but once done and tucked away you have just one double cable to headset.
it is low res,but once your in and playing a game your immersed and thats forgotten, motion sickess can be a thing, but percevere and you get used to it.

my kids love job simulator,im halfway through resi and loving it if you feel its too expensive then the little niggles will feel like massive issues, but get a good deal then its easier to forgive these and enjoy it.

Unfortunately this has happened with 3D. LG OLED 4K 3D just about nailed it but too late as the haters hated and now 3D has been dropped from the 2017 range of TV's.

Such a shame as people chase nits and brightness over a very good technology. 3D didn't take off in the home, because it was in its infancy, but has died off, just as it was being perfected.

Same with VR. Unfortunately the haters will hate and it will also die off before it is perfected. Give it a few years and like 3D, it could really be an awesome bit of tech!

got very lucky with a vr,2 moves and camera for 200 on gumtree
and pro was a bit of delboy dealing (got a faulty white ps4 from cash convertors for 50 quid-still in warrenty-repaired by sony, sold for 150,the again got a lucky deal on gumtree from some young chap who was abusing his argos card with no intention of repaying it.sold it me for 240 so grand total for the lot of 340 ...

and i have to admit i certainly look past little niggles knowing its not cost me a small fortune, with the initail one i had ,with 800 outlay i expected so much more, but now i just enjoy it with much lower expectations
