I have the colour ones in three rooms and there brill though the novelty of changing them does wear off quickly and is mostly used as a party piece when guests are here. I think whites would be fine for most rooms. This is a decent deal.

Heat because any price drop on Hue is great. However, my experience is you would be better investing in the Colour starter kit (especially as it's on offer) because you won't be satisfied with the White bulbs and end up buying colour/white ambience anyway.

Agreed. Wouldnt say you need the colour or ambience in every room though.
For me 3 colour bulbs were enough for the whole house and the rest are standard white hue bulbs

Agreed the colour starter kit is better value.
But there are cases where the other bulbs are fine.
In my lounge I use colour as thats where I benifit the most from colour
In the bedroom I use white ambience to simulate sunrise on a dimmed in/out timer in the morning (especially for winter)
In the hall i use the standard white as I just need it on or dimmed as a night light.
If money was no object of course I'd have them all as colour!

Those are the latest ones with John Lewis. You are right there are different generation ones and it can be confusing, especially market place sellers on Amazon. As far as I know all the major re sellers only sell the latest generation ones, i.e. Argos, John Lewis etc.

I've bought a Hue set up due to previous deals on here however the Hue app on iOS is currently constantly crashing. Anyone wanting an ES to bayonet type fitting can get the adapters in IKEA or Bunnings warehouse cheaply though of course I make the light bulb slightly longer.
