WOW, brilliant deal, for all you guys who don't really understand routers, this one allows you to ditch your Sky and BT routers without needed a open reach box to handle the fibre connection :smiley:

Had one of these until last year, decent router and a good upgrade from OEM stuff especially for its customisation (Tomato etc) but these were £70 in recent Warehouse 20% off offer. Unless you're in a rush I'd hang fire.
I'm now using its bigger brother the R7800 and can also recommend it, occasionally on offer for £129 which is the price I paid.

The R7800 is just a router so its not "its bigger brother" as the D7000 is a Modem & Router.
However it does state the connection was "rock solid" and did not require rebooting. My own performs much better than the one Vodafone supplied and I very rarely have to reboot it.

I always tell people there is nothing wrong with the HH5, it is hands down the best OEM router out there, however range is not everything, and reviews can not note ongoing issues, a quick look at BT forum will let you see lots and lots of issues with the HH... but yes, millions of people can happily stay on their HH, after market routers are simply not aimed at the happy with just a connection crowd

But which of the two BT hub 5s are they comparing it to. BT Hub 5A has completely different hardware to the BT hub 5B, I believe the A is supposed to have the best wifi of the two.

Wrong.
They do modem+router and router only models of all models, there's an equivalent 7800 model for either use case.
The 7800 is significantly better, particularly from a processor perspective if you plan to utilise the VPN functionality. Throughput in my house (solid brick) was also better.
The other point to be aware of with the r7000 is the need to use the latest firmware, there's a vulnerability that was issued early 2017 which is fixed via firmware.

I have one of these, I have tried the BT5 and the latest BT Smartypants Hub and NEITHER perform anywhere near the Netgear. Common sense tells you that a so called " free " router is never going to be as good as a decent brand one.

Yes. This is a fibre router. I use BT Infinity with it. Just as a matter of info, I use the wifi with 2 mobiles, 2 TV's, 2 sky boxes, 2 laptops, 3 tablets, 1 wired pc, obviously not all at the same time but there are usually at least 6 using the wifi and it delivers to all with no problems.

Hey, is there much setup in these for sky? I was looking at the NETGEAR R8000-100UKS, also (also up on hotukdeals) but not sure if it includes a modem? Have read some pieces online about updating the firmware etc and some work arounds but I'd rather avoid that if I can. I'm sick of the terrible sky router.

Until very recently Vodafone wouldn't allow you to use your own equipment and so wouldn't give out the required login details. They will now give this out if you have (or say you have) an approved Openreach modem; VDSL Modems
So it will probably work once you piece together the required information. But don't expect any help from Vodafone.

I had Voda Home as it was called back in 2003, I used my own router then, you just need to be persistent to get the log in details.

Easy to set up, ( has a " genie " ) to do it for you mostly. Will work with almost any ISP, you just need your log in details.

That wouldn't have been fibre though. The restrictions they impose (now lifted slightly) are for fibre connections. As I said, you can get your login details so long as you say have a modem on their (outdated) approved list. They will not help with the settings required to configure a modern all-in-one router like this. In most cases you need to add @broadband.vodafone.co.uk to whatever username they give you.

The question wasn't adsl or fibre, it was whether you could get your login details to use your own router from voda, I was merely pointing out that you could as I did as far back as 2003.

The D8500 is its biggest brother but at great cost
Its intermediate brother is also available.
