Very sadly I ripped all my top 40 tapes to MP3....Crackly radio, poor edit and clips of radio 1 dj's all left in. Took me days to do. Even worse I still kept the tapes.
Must get a life.

Have you got the SID Player free App?
Has all the old C64 music from the good old days.

My ghetto blaster of choice (and thats what they were in the late 80s and early 90s) was the matsui sx5311q inhereted from my (now deceased) sister.
Considered buying another as that thing could go pretty loud in relative terms.
I remember buying a JMB CD-8 (millenium series) from index, its shocking and has a dent in the speaker which has been there since a couple of months after I got it. Still got it stashed away somewhere but not used it since my wife moved in and brought a decent dab hifi with her which is used upstairs

I'm with you asmidir, I had the same Panasonic RX ED 77, nicknamed "The cobra".
OK, it may not be amongst the original, traditional shape / styles, but where it lacked in that respect, it more than made up for it in others:
Sweet, sweet stereophonics, CD player plus 2 cassette decks hidden under the cobra motorised flip top lid - lush!!! Takes me back. only reason I got rid of it was because of the motors working the cassette desks... the rubber bands perished and this unit was a pig to open up and fix! A maze of screws to negotiate. Thanks for the memories.
Nah, don't be hard on yerself... That's exactly what I"d have done.. That said, I seem to be going the way of the hoarder... Look at my garage and you'd understand! :-)

Yep. I just want that adidas stormtrooper suit. Nevermind the speakers
I just wonder how many D cell batteries these bad boys took (Think 10 or 12 was the going rate) and how long the batteries lasted whilst it was perched on your shoulder in the shopping Centre. Also weren't they called Ghetto Blasters? Or is that not PC these days?

For me though it was the 'Dixons' range of 'Matsui' twin cassette decks....sitting there for hours praying that your 65th attempt at copying 'Commando' for the C64 via tape to tape would work.....think mine had big detachable speakers also.....oh the sweet and innocent days of pirating a £1.99 tape from John Menzies (I condone any form of piracy *cough*)

I hadn't listened to radio for years thanks to living in the 21st century and the choices we now have for consuming and discovering music. Recently started a new design job in an office that favours 6 Music, and from what I can hear, it's no better than Radio 1 back in the day of tape recordings.
DJs that love the sound of their own voices, same narrow playlist of tunes on constant rotation and the added bonus of being embarrassingly pretentious as they seem to think 6 Music is somehow cool. It's really not.
Thank heaven for streaming, headphones and choice

LOVED my 3D Superwoofer in the late 80's! Moved to a seaside town in Cornwall in '87 where all the 'cool kids' used to hang around on the beach in the summer with their lame radio's and tape decks. My Hitachi literally turned heads when I first strolled along the beach with it nestled on my shoulder and my new 'gang' of local mates
Thanks for the nostalgic reference and memories ;-)

I lived under the Heathrow flight path, most of my recordings were punctuated with pilots radioing in. I had a great recording of Roy Chubby Brown's "Who the **** is Alice" with a pilot reporting that he was climbing to 30,000 feet, perfectly between verses lol.

1 Jun 172#9
You could but might be better to buy this, chuck in the bin and connect phone to bluetooth speaker. If you really want the warble, hiss and muffled sounds for that authentic tape sound consider wrapping your speaker in cloth and put it underwater.
