They don't seem to want to sell me one. They don't have any for delivery and if you try to buy one for collection tomorrow it tells you that you can't collect it today and you need to remove it from your basket. I bet they won't be having their Christmas party in a brewery.

I'm thinking about getting one for cutting into Empty Gas bottles to make a BBQ, does 750w @ 115Ø have enough power or should I be looking at something beefier?
I have no experience with Angle Grinders before (plenty of Jigsaws & Circular Saws in the past but somehow seamed to never need one until now)

Yeah this will go through a gas bottle with the right disc no problem. just be careful cutting gas cylinders open

Which ever one fits best.
Looking at B&Q pic they have guard on back to front lol.
Looks like there is a normal and thicker guard. The thicker one would be used with flap discs etc where more clearance is needed.
Generally grinders usually only come with one guard.

Thanks! Sorry to ask another question, but which of the two guards should be used when using a cutting disc? I'm guessing the one that covers both sides

Bought one of these a while back with the 2 items for £30odd quid deal B&Q did. Just used it last week to grind out the old mortar on the house for Re-pointing. Was getting on the warm side after about 30mins continuous use but a quick brew let it cool down enough. Never died with overheating just an observation. The discs are a bit of a pain to change with the disc lock button being in a bit of an awkward place for your thumb. Overall though spot on

I have used "flex-o-vit" 0.8mm discs from screwfix for cutting all sorts of metal and they seem very rugged. They do wear very quickly (esp on stainless) but the speed and lower heat might be worth it for some jobs.

Would this be overkill (or will not provide enough protection to be any use) or will just having the guard be fine if any disks fly off or break
Lol, they are perfectly safe if you watch what your doing mate, most accidents are through improper mounting, use or removing guard.
Make sure and wear eye protection and you will be fine.

you need this http://www.screwfix.com/p/harris-heavy-duty-tungsten-carbide-wood-scraper-9/45940
(it can work better than a sander or sand paper elbow grease)
plus a heat gun and scraper, (gloves incase any hot paint falls on your hands, and obviously a mask)
and a sander to touch up
It has been suggested to use a belt sander, as I have never used one, I dont know how it would compare, but guess it would create a lot of dust.

I bought one of these the last time out to get rid of some roller shutters from our house (long story but blame the previous occupant).
As the outer box is only flimsy aluminium even the grinding disc included went through it, but I picked up some thinner cutting discs to do the rest properly. Your pics are making me think twice :/

I am just watching the angle grinder safety videos on YouTube - shattering disks. They are upthere with the circular saw and chainsaw kickbacks.

The 1mm Inox discs can be bad for shattering if they get pinched or bent during cutting. 9 times out of 10 the guard throws it away from you though. link- not for squeamish And another one

Mac Allister is a cheap brand - it's basically B & Q's 'own label', presumably with a name carefully chosen to sound a bit like McCulloch or something. There's a good chance your Asda one is as good or better.

Belt sander if it's a large enough window sill. Then use one of the handheld 'mouse style Sanders around the edges. Or just buy a cheap 1/2 sheet sander and do the lot with that.

be careful with heat guns and paint. old properties used lead paint so you'll want to have a mask on to avoid breathing in those lead fumes.

My old Nu tool grinder just died....brushes worn out and overheated. Was going to repair it but at this price its cheaper than a set of brushes and new holders. Gone are the days of repairing this type of thing. Do B&Q still do their Wednesday Diamond card discount as if so even cheaper! Great post thanks

I'd start with paint stripper and a scraper or if its a bit more persistent you can use a hot air gun on it I'll assume the sill is wood. if its a delicate job get some 40/60 grit sandpaper and do it by hand.

I bought this at 30 odd pounds and it was well worth it. Grinding out back boxes for the rewire of my house **shudders**
how are you getting along with the diy using this grinder? i bought it last time it was on here for £15 but haven't used it yet. any tips you could share that might help me out with doing wires and backboxes?
I was under heavy instruction by my pal who is a spark. The grinder done the job though no bother through brick without issue and I am used to using a good quality pneumatic grinder from my time as a plater.
I had my back boxes marked out and cut deep into the marked rectangle(Use a back box as a template and determine a height and keep them all the same) .
Then some diagonal cuts on the area to removed and chiselled out the brick until I had the depth needed for the back box (Keep a back box handy and check it in the hole you've made to check depth).
The channel for the cable is just two parallel cuts and chisel out from one side.
When changing discs make sure to un plug it for maximum safety.
Bought this for £20 6 weeks ago - it is brilliant and at £15 a steal thanks
