The larger Lego sets, like Technic flagship ones have increased quite a bit. I'm talking about over a decade or two. I'm not going to search through Lego wiki's to find RRP's.

It's not about that, its about the workers in the country and the livelihood of people in Denmark who work for what is a pretty large company. Up until mid 2000's all Lego was entirely made in Denmark, then like with most things production was shipped abroad to cut costs yet the price stayed the same and even increased. I don't mind paying more if it's of a quality and manufacturing ethos that I appreciate. Its like Japanese made cameras for example.

When a British brand or product is no longer entirely made in the UK (HP Sauce, MG Rover etc) no one seems to have a problem in highlighting it to death, plonkers.

Lego really is overpriced, they probably still make a profit at £3.50. Now that most of it is made in the Far East and Eastern Europe for a pittance it makes the price sting even more. Should be 100% made in Denmark.

the retailers don't make any profit on sale items, they just clear shelves for now stock which will bring them profit.
they don't even break even on the few last boxes they clear but in a long run they may have sold 1000's of boxes so the last few 100's does not matter. 30% off RRP is the usual Lego discount for large buyers. huge buyers may have better discount but would be surprised if it is more than 40%. they probably paid about £8-£9 for this set.
have fun!
