Did this yesterday in Maidstone. Took a while to get upto temperature but well worth the price. Don't forget you will need a few more quid on top for your chlorine and test strips.

We've had one of these for the past 4 year's. Wasn't sure how much use we would get out of it initially on a yearly basis.
Overall, I've been in it at 3am on multiple occasions, Sun, Rain & Snow. Even Christmas Day.
Its a great hit at BBQ's, brings people out of their shell :stuck_out_tongue: (_;)

How much do these cost to run? Do you keep it heated all the time or just heat it when needed?

It has water jets. You don't get that with an average Toys R Us inflatable tub.

I'm having a laugh,I know what they are,I had one about 8 or 9 years ago.
Am I the only one to notice that the OP has called it a Layz boy (which is a chair),when in fact this hot tub is called a layz spa

Anyone know if they made the pumps/heaters last longer than one season on these things ? As when we had one it failed about 3 times in one summer, then the following year we got another (in the hope they were redesigned) and the pump/heater failed again.

Bought one from Argos a couple of years ago and it's great. When we are using it I use cheap bleach instead of chlorine tablets, swap and wash my filters regularly and don't have any probs. To save on electricity overnight I take a few buckets out and replace with boiling water in the morning.

We bought our Spa from Homebase, and they matched the price but didn't offer the 10% extra off?? Should we go back and ask for the extra 10%? Would they entertain that? Wouldn't normally but £30 odd back is quite a bit of money.

I'd email customer services first and push them for a result. Easier to go in store with an email instructing them to do the refund. Better than wasting fuel in the car. Can argue in store as a last resort but try the cheapest option first
Don't have one myself, something I was interested to know as well - website says £7-£10 a week I guess you have to keep it switched on all the time to filter the water, you'd also have to buy a chemical kit to keep it algae and insect free
They have a pvc cover that resists damage but I think a determined cat could rip it. Our is in our conservatory and we keep the cat away just in case as a new liner is as much as buying a complete setup.
Kingb4
19 Jun 17#37
I was sceptical when I bought it - we planned to get a 'proper' hot-tub, so were just using this as a trial, to see if we would actually use one. It has been outside for the last 18 months and has been brilliant, we tend to use it more in the winter, rather than summer. Having used a friends £8k 'proper' hot-tub, there are clearly benefits - but not enough to for us to justify the additional cash. To reduce running costs, we have lined the outer cover with the foil coated bubblewrap - you put it between the liner and the inflatable element, so you cant see it. We have also cut 50-mm celotex to create a proper-lid. With these modifications, you dont lose much heat over-night..... Accept these arent for everyone. Suspect some of the 'haters' have never actually tried one.....

Main question, how loud is this hot tub when its on ?
damadgeruk
19 Jun 17#41
Annoyingly so IME, also, the jets cool the water. I'd happily buy one once I have more time to enjoy it though I typically use without the jets.

Yiddo4life to ppoze
19 Jun 17#52
Their website says 10% of the difference which is £336-£295 = £41 10% of this is £4.10
Hence why most are getting it at £290, I know I bought one Friday night and returned it Saturday as the missus wasn't best pleased with it
If you got it at 10% off well done because the instore staff haven't a clue, when I got mine they checked online if Tesco had stock also so if they have none at Tesco you may struggle
Hope this helps

19 Jun 17#45
You need to keep it on all the time? People talking about not losing heat overnight etc. Must cost a fortune in electricity. I'd love one of these but running costs in Scotland would be huge.

19 Jun 17#47
love those ideas. got ours on Saturday. how do you keep it going in winter? it says not to be out in temps below 4c..
tyketyson
19 Jun 17#48
not all the time. it warms up about 2c per hour. so if you let it drop from 38 to say 32 overnight.. just needs 3 hours to warm back up (24p an hour on our electricity plan). I filled ours from the hot tap. by my calcs, its £1 for the water and 80p for the gas boiler to heat that water
andypolack
19 Jun 17#49
Sounds like your cat is desperate to get in, maybe you should help it?
MrCollective
19 Jun 17#50
We are on a water meter and economy 7 - Leave the heater on all the time as its more cost effective to leave it running and when the temp drops by 2c it comes back on for about 15 minutes then goes back off. If you turn it off and the temp drops by 8+ its takes a while to get back up.
We did put thermal insulation between the outside cover and the inflated tub inside to help keep the heat in, also raised it off the decking with a foam pad.

After renting a "proper" hot tub a few times in the last couple of years, I do think they are so much better than these lazy spas, but for the cost these aren't bad. I've seen deals including fitting for the proper ones for under £3k. Im definitely considering a proper one. I usually pay £200 to rent one for 4 nights, u suppose you could nearly buy a lazy spa for that price but they are a massive improvement

this should not be allowed as a deal as it clearly is not a deal went into store and they showed me price match policy "banged to rights" clearly states Price Match Guarantee
If you find any comparable product cheaper at another store, we'll match the price and refund you 10% of the difference*. Just bear in mind the following: Please make your claim within 14 days of purchase. Your claim must be supported by a written quotation from the national retailer and/or by a current published price list. The comparison will be made against the actual Homebase store price including any discounts or offers. Where applicable a Homebase proof of purchase (receipt) is needed. The product(s) must be comparable in style, quality and structure. The Price Match Guarantee excludes all online retailers.

Sorry for the long post, but it may be useful to some. Just some comments that I have found thru these various threads and some for myself
Filling it I have calculated (we have a meter with Yorkshire Water) costs £1.Drainage is about £1.20 on that, I have called YW and they are looking into discounting the drainage completely as it drains onto the fields behind the house – more her - hotukdeals.com/dea…490
Heating the water up (not maintaining the heat) costs (on EDF plan we are on) 24p/hour, at 2c per hour.Filling the empty tub from the hot tap (gas combi boiler) with a mix of hot and cold water costs about 80p in gas, this ended up being OVER 40c! Needed to keep an eye on it and not have it too hot.To heat it from 20c to 40c using the heater would be £2.40. or to refill from empty with hot water would be £1.80 for comparison.
It has been outside for the last 18 months and has been brilliant, we tend to use it more in the winter, rather than summer. Have to keep it running in winter to keep the temperature above 4c
To reduce running costs, we have lined the outer cover with the foil coated bubblewrap ( £8.96 here for 0.6m x 10m - ebay.co.uk/itm…ust= )- you put it between the liner and the inflatable element, so you cant see it. We have also cut 50-mm celotex to create a proper-lid. ( £26.31 at Wickes - wickes.co.uk/Cel…544) With these modifications, you dont lose much heat over-night.....
clean and dry your liner. Mildew thrives in damp conditions and you don’t want to pull your spa out of storage next spring to find it covered in mould.
To prevent this, mix some mild laundry detergent or washing up liquid with some warm water and soak a soft, clean cloth in the solution. Wipe around the inner part of the liner before soaking up any moisture with an absorbent cloth.
Fold the flat liner back to reveal a section of the outer walls and part of the base. Clean and dry the areas before folding another section back and repeating the process. Because the base has been face down in darkness all season you may find a more rigorous clean is needed here. One method that some users use to ensure their spa is fully dried before they put it into storage is talcum powder. Sprinkling talcum powder over the liner prevents it sticking together when it’s placed into storage and absorbs any remaining moisture.
Non-Chlorine shock (meant to be used about once a week) - £14.99 ebay.co.uk/itm…649
Chemicals pack (cheaper than the Clearwater ones and some bigger) - ebay.co.uk/itm…649
Some people wash the filters in their dishwasher, I find it more effective to soak them overnight in warm water with "Vanish" dissolved in it.
To save on electricity overnight I take a few buckets out and replace with boiling water in the morning.
As for maintaince from what I've read online I've decided to just use multifunction 20g chlorine (or bromine) tablet in the supplied chemical floater and plan to add another ever 3-5 days (when tablet is nearly dissolved) also clean the filter once a week and replace it every month (12 filters are about £22 on eBay)
