Heat added OP ! I'm currently using the phone as I type. I went for the 128gb version and I do not regret it for a second.
The phone is very snappy and supports WIFI calling (I'm with Vodafone-check with your network provider). It has a 3.5mm headphone jack in case anyone is wondering

In answer to your question, no the 32gb would be a far better option. With the OS taking up so much space, the phone would soon be crippled with a few apps and media. Very few phones are now available without added micro SD slot for that very reason.

SD is good enough for 4k 60fps video so unless your running a database from your IPhone then there not really any arguement for forcing nand on users for storing your photos and music. How many apps need a read speed over 90mb/s, it's about charging the customer over the odds for handsets with larger storage which they couldn't do if they provided SD card slot.

Very currently have £50 credit back on iPhone SE if you choose buy now pay later . 32gb is £339 but choose buy now pay later and £50 credit back to your account makes it £289 . Great if you don't want to fork out in one lump sum but just make sure you pay it off within period to avoid hefty interest.

I decided that I missed the smaller iPhone and got one of these recently. I am really impressed! It was a bit of a risk, thinking I'd got used to the bigger screen but it isn't a problem. They are also a lot easier to keep safe and in one piece.

Nice deal. I went for the 16GB version and have had no issues with memory, i use the icloud storage for photos, which gives aneasy 5GB extra for free. In terms of apps i have light ones. With previous iphone 6, i had 16GB, but i usually had to transfer photos to computer semi-annually and thats it. But for £30 more, 32GB seems to make most sense. Less than a quid/GB is a steal

Another way of looking at it is that SD is slowing down any decrease in NAND storage costs.
If Samsung had stuck to their guns with the S6 idea of storage tiers then we *might* have started to see cheaper storage tiers.
*Personally* I think internal storage is a better option all round both for OS stability and security - I'd rather have a 128GB phone than even a 64GB phone with the option of a card. As I see it, the only things that makes an SD card option 'better' are the fact that storage jumps are still relatively expensive, and with an SD card you get the option of popping your old cruft and malware filled SD card into your spanking new device to save hassle.
Remember that SD cards are still very expensive when newer and larger storage tiers are released - until production starts to ramp up and the price comes down through economies of scale.
I remember when a 1GB SD card cost £100 - it's not always been this glorious situation where you can add 64Gb to your phone for £1, and in order for the cost of NAND to come down, people have to start buying it - pure and simple.

Great phone for 289. I have been using the 64GB version for just over a year. It was my first iOS device.
I was previously Android since V1.1. But I got sick of all the crap manufacturers put ontop of the original OS. And they were very slow at getting you upto date with new the latest android OS and sometime not at all. I will never go back. Apple all the way. BTW I love the small form factor of this phone, no need for 5 inch screen, its a phone FFS

I can't believe that after all these years of iPhones, people are still getting into debates about whether SD cards are more practical and the assumption that the only reason SD card slots are omitted by Apple is purely because they want to charge excessively for additional NAND storage.
Contrary to what you've said, some of the arguments for omitting SD card slots have been with respect to the thickness of the device as well as the internal layout. Another argument is the fact that the inclusion of removable storage presents additional security risks since most people don't encrypt the contents of their SD cards, whereas a device with no removable storage that is locked will generally not allow the average thief to access the content until the device is unlocked.
Whether those arguments are valid depends on the manufacturer's vision and the buyer's requirements. However, people can simply not buy an iPhone or other smartphone that doesn't come with an SD card slot. It's that simple really.

I got this reply from JL when I tried a price match "Thank you for your enquiry.
In order to apply a price reduction on a purchase, the criteria in our pricing policy must be met. I regret that after review the request you have submitted does not match all or parts of this policy.
In order to match a price request, high street competitors trade on the same basis as us, with premises on a high street or comparable shopping destination freely open to the public in the UK mainland. Unfortunately GiffGaff dont have any stores, they are online only. They should carry a reasonable range of goods in stock for you to buy and take away, with clearly displayed prices. Their websites need to trade under the same brand and on the same basis as their high street shops.
Outlets which trade on a different basis to us, such as those that operate only on the internet or through mail-order, showrooms attached to internet-only companies, collection points, auction sites, factory outlets, membership clubs, duty-free shops, market stalls or home shopping channels, are not deemed equivalent high street competitors. We also don't match competitors who are in administration or closing down.
Therefore, on this occasion I regret that I cannot match the price offered by GiffGaff. If you would like to view more information about Never Knowingly Undersold and our pricing you can do so on our website.

I do! GiffGaff is PAYG but where you can convert credit into "Goodybags" - or not!
If you have to buy £10 credit it will sit on the SIM until used. It need not be used in the iPhone even! You can setup a GiffGaff account to make topping-up easier but it is totally optional. Nothing needs cancelled!
Their iPhones are not locked and will activate with any SIM

BrianM to Hal
24 Jun 17#49
That's if you wish to buy with monthly payments - for which you get charged interest. Looking at one example it was either £259 single payment or ~£303 over 24 months. Unlike contract phones none of the monthly payment is for calls etc.
Hal
24 Jun 17#50

You need iTunes to drag and drop things but it is pretty easy. If you install, say, VLC media player you can then open up a VLC file manager window via the 'apps' sidebar in iTunes and just drag any video files into there. There's no confusing syncing or anything like that - very straightforward and the items instantly show in the VLC app (or whatever other app you're using).
If you have a Mac you have to install software to connect an Android device so it's similar in a way - both platforms have incompatible file systems out of the box and need software as a go-between.
trd
24 Jun 17#54
@TechBB But if your iPhone develops a fault, how do you retain ALL your media and documents as you have to wipe the phone clean before sending for repair? If it's on SD you can just remove it and access your data on your laptop etc... lol
BrianM to trd
24 Jun 17#55
Easy peasy! You get 5Gb of iCloud data free with your Apple ID and the phone is normally set to automatically backup there as required (only over WiFi). Any new iPhone (of the same or a different model) just restores itself from there. You can, if you set it to do this, get Photos to also backup automatically to iCloud and only leave thumbnail sized images for indices on the phone (if memory is low)
You can also backup to a PC using iTunes.
Repairs to iPhones are best done at Apple Stores who have (no matter who supplied the phone!!!!!!) an unbeatable reputation of "repair or replace" on the spot for the 12 month warranty period! The handset informs Apple when it is first activated (turned on) so they know (without proof being needed) when the warranty starts and ends.

If it's like EE you should be able to cancel the "auto renew" aspect and just leave the £10 on the SIM

Some mentions of £10 goodybag in the thread - which would be instant, as you can get it with the phone purchase, I suppose. But, if it can wait a day or two, a free sim is available from the GG website and they do £5 goodybags there too.
BrianM to hkhk

If you have a "MyGiffGaff" account associated with a SIM - even, as I have, an old one with no current credit, you don't get charged the £10 when ordering from this account
However I see that all colours of the 32Gb model are currently OOS - so people trying too hard to avoid the extra £10 may be out of luck!

£0.79/month for 50Gb
It's never been a problem for me as even a full restore from iCloud on a brand new device has only taken me ~30 minutes to reload (mostly) Apps and Photos.
It's just handy that incremental backups to iCloud "just happen". You can omit things (including photos, video and music) from iCloud backups - if it makes more sense to do them manually.
For known huge quantities of anything I would use iTunes.
