At least Nvidia support for 7+ years, in terms of drivers. I won't buy a laptop with Intel integrated graphics for that reason alone. Intel support v Nvidia support is like chalk and cheese.

My last 4 laptops have been HP and, generally speaking, they've been excellent - great spec for the price, nice looking and decent build quality. I've been happy enough with each one to go for another HP each time I've upgraded. But I have to say my current one has been pretty terrible - and it sounds like it must be the same generation Envy you had because the keyboard/plastics around it do feel very flimsy and the touchpad is just atrocious - so sensitive at times but completely unresponsive at other times, and if I go to actually physically click the mouse buttons on it, as opposed to tapping it, the left click works but it's so soft you don't know if you've clicked it or not and the right click needs to be pressed down so hard it only registers maybe once out of every three attempts. It's been like that since I bought it new and it really is just the design of it, so here's hoping they've improved it in subsequent generations (I think this is maybe 1-2 behind now?) or I won't be getting HP next time.

I bought an HP laptop and had problems the moment it came out the box, I'm good with fixing computers but I just couldn't fix it no matter what I tried. I took it back the same day and swapped it for an Acer of the same price and it hasn't missed a beat.

there's something about HP that I just don't trust, I've only ever had 2 laptops from them and neither of them filled me with confidence.

HP are a mixed bag, get a HP laptop with the motherboard made by Quanta, and it's generally poor (from my experience of a large number of HP laptops)
Get a HP Laptop with the motherboard made by Wistron, and they are mostly superb. It's knowing which company makes the motherboard for HP. Wistron (formally part of Acer) is the company to look out for though, in terms of the specs. On the whole, I think HP are pretty good, though support is dire and (I'd say) are paid to fob you off, you need to be persistent if you get a lemon. Their support will point you in the direction of "software fixes", even when the fault is obviously a hardware fault.

I haven't tried opening it yet but if I turn it over I can see ordinary philips screws so I suspect it's simple enough to tinker with.
