Good deal if this is supposed to be considered a Flagship competitor to the S8, I suppose...
Call me Mr Tight A*se if you choose, but these phones are getting more expensive each year like the OnePlus 5.
The Honor 7 was £229 when I got it. and now these Honor phones are been released at prices around £150+ more, which takes the shine off them. For that money they are not really doing much more than last year's phone did, other than a tad quicker and maybe the camera slightly improved.
For these prices I would be tempted to look at buying last year's flagship phones from the big manufacturers which areca similar price.
Also you can get this year's LG6 cheaper if happy to take a punt buying from a HK, as per previous posts.
Suppose I'm just a little deflated, as had high hopes for a great phone at a sub £300 price. :disappointed:

Not a bad price, as the almost identical Honor 8 Pro (with 2Gb extra RAM the only probable difference) is just over £100 more from the same store: https://www.vmall.eu/de/honor-8-pro-de-64gb-black-301400/
Far-East stores are ~£50 lower (if you're brave enough).

Ah damn you beat me to it - I thought this was a good deal and was going to post it.
Price is very competitive especially when compared to pricing for equivalents, even from China the Xiaomi Mi6 costs more than this, and don't get me started on the price of the OnePlus 5!!!
But I still want the Honor 9 because it's blue and shiny. Hope three get it listed online soon.

Plus it is a 5.7" 2K screen, metal unibody not glass so they are not in the same league. However this one much more compact. FHD is just fine 5.15", new camera, new audio experience. Very nice price.

True but 4gb RAM is absolutely fine, & I was price checking against the 128gb Mi6 as the Honor has upgradeable storage.
Incidentally I have a 128gb Mi6 arriving hopefully this week but may have gone for this if I'd known the pricing would be so keen.

Agree to some degree. I had Honor 7 & loved it. In fact have regretted selling it pretty much every day since. Price was utterly astounding too, but like each OnePlus iteration they've got more expensive (relatively)
The bargains now sit with the Redmi Note series, but they are more midrange than Honor ever was.
I'd read this review before buying. sounds like a lot of people won't get 4G with this phone. shame

Yes they tried to get you hooked with a big loss leader - the H7 - and keep you brand loyal. How may models have they released in the last 2 years?? Although, its got a vital for me, microSD slot (or second Sim, as before) unlike the Xiaomi, not for me at £150 extra, will keep the H7, for a wee while yet. Is an upgraded processor, etc really worth it in a phone?

sadly that is the same as the way Google went, nexus 4 and 5 were amazing value, then it all went wrong.

I agree with you. I bought the Honor 7 on release as Honor's first flagship for £209.99.

"The Honor 9 is only £10 more than the Honor 8 was at launch but, crucially, it's £60 less than a OnePlus 5 and a massive £185-or-so less than the Huawei P10. "

Honor 7 still a great phone, only thing is I do have a couple of screen fractures even though I put on a screen protector. it cracked from the edge. Still fast enough, fingerprint sensor very responsive and perfectly placed at the back.
Honor 9 with all its strength's price point not right for me to bite.
Purchased the Redmi 4X for partner, great phone at under £100, fingerprint sensor works well, does the job, camera decent. Once my Honor 7 dies I think I may go to the Redmi 4Z.:sunglasses:

It's a tight race in that price range.
Honor 8 can still be had for £300 if you shop around. Last year's tech, but quite honestly things haven't advanced all that much since then. Slippery as an eel, mind you. Better at updates than I thought it would be, but not great there.
OP5 has better specs all-round and a better history for updates, but you're looking at £450 and no SD card for music/photos.
Honor 9 slots into the middle. But is a minor bump from the 8 really with the extra £80? The 8 will still sweep the floor with any of those cheap A53-only phones.

My Honor 8 is on the April security patches, but still 7.0 instead of 7.1.1. They've said to expect 7.1.1/EMUI 5.1 this summer sometime.
Not great, but more than I expected from Huawei , if I'm honest. Google's put so much of the Android core into apps update-able from the Play Store that I'm not convinced it makes a major difference any more.

I was just thinking this myself; it's depressing that "mid tier" is now almost £400. Suspect the internal gubbins and camera are very similar to last years Huawei P9, which was a LOT more expensive but the problem generally with the phone market is you can't get top spec in smaller chassis/sub 5 inch screens. In terms of size, my favourite phone of recent years was the Nexus 4. I'd love these sorts of specs shoehorned into a 4 inch screen but it's not the way the market is going. Pretty soon the average size will be similar to the original O2 XDA and we'll have come full circle...

can anyone tell me how sturdy this glass on the back is, this is the only thing why I've not gone for Honor8 when i saw my mates phone dropped from about 3ft landed onto wooden floor and shattered both sides. i strongly believe that even with case protector if dropped on something hard (concrete, tiles) it would not survive. thanks for your opinions

I dropped my Honor 8 while it was in a £4 case and £2.50 tempered glass screen protector into a wooden floor. The screen protector got a slight crack, but the rest of the phone was perfectly fine.
Chances are if you drop unprotected glass onto something very hard, it will break, irrespective of whether it's gorilla glass or not. If you happy to have a very thin case and use a tempered glass screen protector, it'll be fine.
The 9 actually comes with a free thin plastic case so you won't even have to spend anything for one.
