Im sure everyone has heard the news, I went to tesco to get some basic food and nappies for the families and donated. Im glad to see the community pull together to help everyone that is in need.
Tesco value has a large range of things if anyone is interested, thought I would try and spread the love.
Wishing all the best for everyone
p.s. The staff member at Tesco was kind enough to give me discount as she knew it was being donate to the families.

God forbid if there's a true worldwide catastrophe. People's warring petty mentality is sickening. I'm not a pacifist but believe me, there's time for empathy not just hollow sympathy. The disaster is still a recent memory and people don't know how to keep their mouths ( or fingers) shut. Everyone has a right to their opinion but for now, help or console - not ridicule or criticise one another. Very counterproductive!

So you think they will provide these victims with money & help them? & you think they will provide this money from a so called disaster fund?. Wake up please.
During the 2015 boxing day floods, people were made homeless, they not only lost their homes, they lost all their possession's too and the government scraped up a measly £500 in total for family's to start over, £500 does not go far!. I know because my family was one of many flood victims, we had no flood insurance so we had to start from scratch. They left us in a hotel for months, a hotel which did not meet the needs of our child who has disabilities.
Now I know that this is not in any way a comparable situation. What has happened is so tragic and my thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones and have lost their homes.
My point is if you think their is a magic pot of money then I pray your right for their sake, but in my experience this government just don't seem to care once the camera has finished rolling. I hope they get answers and compensation. It won't bring their loved ones back but they deserve to be supported.
A local flood relief charity helped us so much, if it wasn't for them we wouldnt have had much of a chance at all. Donate to local charities that provide direct help to those who need it most.
Our hearts go out to all the victims.

more proof of how toxic the HUKD community is... well some at least...
you come on here, you try to post something nice/interesting/good deal and what do you get? chavs and general toxic perverts who turn it into their own theatre. I for one am tired of making some random Canadian rich with affiliate links, you guys do all the hard work, you find the products you post the deals but some website owner makes it rich off your back... and to top all that you get **** like this thread.
I posted a response about a TV. Gave my honest opinion. Got called a snob, that my choice of brand means im a poser etc ... some muppet even signed up under a new false identity to harass me. Jesus all I wanted to do was post deals / talk about stuff I'm interested in and give advice when someone asked for it.... but no....
so as of today, I'm saying goodbye to HUKD. I might read it every now and then, find the bargains and buy them myself without clicking the links and making this website owner richer... while promoting a toxic environments the mods don't care about unless it crosses their profit margins...

Having contents insurance is a no brainer, that's obvious. The point is those that don't have it can sue if the landlord is at fault.
Example: Your landlord employs an electrician to rewire the flat you currently rent (with no contents insurance). The electrician causes a fire and all your possessions are destroyed. You would not sue the electrician because you have no contract with him, your contract is with the landlord. You sue the landlord and they in turn sue the electrician.

You don't need building insurance if you rent a flat and since the owner of this building is liable you would not require contents insurance either.
The problem may lie with the manufacturer of the insulation/cladding used and not the contractor or owner.
Barst
15 Jun 17#57
My guess would be that the residents mainly don't have insurance and I would be surprised if this 'qualifies' for disaster relief. Therefore I think they'll need all the money they can get.
In due three government and council will pay for accommodation (but not in that borough) but they'll be little for the replacement of possessions, clothes, etc., not to mention ongoing hospital bills and (possibly years of) counselling for the trauma. It doesn't beat thinking about!
As for Tesco, they are but one company who could contribute to the future welfare of the survivors. If this turns out to be started by a fridge (or other device), then perhaps you could suggest that their 'sector' should be shouldering some of the bill. The banks have cold, hard cash, so a donation from them might be nice too.
Currently I'm just praying for some small miracles to come from this (eg: an unaccounted-for family who were on holiday, oblivious to the fate of their home; or the cause of the quick-spreading fire is a simple fix that can be applied to other blocks).
I'm just devastated for all of them (but ever-in-awe of our emergency services).

The compartmentalisation strategy is perfectly fine if the building is indeed compartmentalised properly. It's not a matter of an "acceptable number of deaths", it's a case of "If your flat's on fire, get out - if next door is on fire, you should be OK"
At first look, It seems like the main problem was the cladding effectively turning the outside of the building into a blast furnace. This is a pretty well documented and known concern with external cladding, and a reason why fire breaks between floors are essential, along with appropriately fireproof cladding:

The owners/management company should be responsible for these costs, both morally and legally. There should be no need for donations.
I've no doubt the land owner will do very well out of this when they demolish the remains and build high grade flats in their place that the people who lived there couldn't afford in a million years.
I'm sorry but it's terrible what's happened. But we have disaster funds for this type of thing we are england after all. I'm sure us tax payers we all wouldn't mind them (da government) going into the pot to help rehouse and give any support for those involved. I would hope anyway.

The sad possibility is that many entire families may not have survived at all. I don't suppose the re-fit of the Houses of Parliament will scrimp on the sprinklers and functional fire alert system. This is mass death by cuts. By all accounts, the fire strategy was 'compartmentalisation' meaning that fire breaks were supposedly installed to limit fire damage to sections of the building without further spreading. I guess they reasoned that limiting fire outbreaks to sections of the building would lead to acceptable numbers of deaths.
Like many, I suspect that the fire was spread by the combustible external cladding. It was a warm night, people would have had external windows open. The cladding was alight on the outside. Opening their doors to the communal areas and stairwells could have drawn extremely hot air and fire through the open windows into their flats, rapidly setting light to combustible materials inside. Many of these poor souls didn't stand a chance. It's simply terrifying.

I'm sure everyone involved in this awful tragedy will appreciate the help, support and donations people are offering, no matter what is on the label.

What's this got to do with tesco exactly. Utter nonsense this whole thing. who says they need tons of tesco value crap. Let the house insurance and government sort them out. Tesco are big enough that they can donate themselves

They are big companies therefore can raise awareness faster and can afford to give some time to raise some money. Everyone should be greatful for this.
"Fix up".......what sort of stupid phrase is that?

I would like to know if the new cladding on the outside of the building helped the fire spread so quickly.

What a ridiculous and insensitive thing to say given what has happened. Just file it under miscellaneous discussions!!
Are you really that insensitive?
Personally, I would say it is a massive deal to those who have lost their lives / homes / family and friends in this tragedy. Best all round to put it somewhere where it will receive MAXIMUM impact to help all those who desperately need support at this time of loss.

Only if Tesco was worth hundreds and hundreds of millions of pounds, they could donate THEIR value products free of charge to help support those affected.

Don't give her the attention. The fact she even mentions terrorists at all in a post about a tragic accident shows just how vile she is. Of course it wasn't terrorists, why even mention terrorism.

Hey maybe your right, I did this really quick whilst on the move but I know people look at deals more often so hoping I could spread the word
Quite the opposite. I'm guessing it's only viable to donate food, clothing etc if you live in the locality (unless Tesco is doing a "buy locally and we'll send it to them" service)
Far better to link to their JustGiving / Official donation site, as it will have a far greater impact.
Opening post
Tesco value has a large range of things if anyone is interested, thought I would try and spread the love.
Wishing all the best for everyone
p.s. The staff member at Tesco was kind enough to give me discount as she knew it was being donate to the families.

TOWER
Theresa May is probably glad and George Osborne definitely would be.
You mentioned Gabriel Jesus heard about his injury why are you bringing a football player into this topic what has Jesus got to do with the fire
you come on here, you try to post something nice/interesting/good deal and what do you get? chavs and general toxic perverts who turn it into their own theatre.
This shouldn't happen anywhere anytime, never mind in 2017.
I heard on the morning news programme that the tenants didn't want the cladding, it was the million pound houses nearby that didn't want to look at a concrete block.
Devastating.
My thoughts and heart are with you all.
People have lost life - full stop!
If you wish to help - please extend in 'anyway' you can. If you DON'T, please move on .....
Join the flame - don't blow!!
I am totally disgusted with how well this illustrates the problem with the UK,big business putting profit before people.
Are they not council houses? Do these people not already get free benefits?
Don't agree with Just giving making money off misery though and
Should be government or not-for-profit charities taking for disaster emergency response and re-homing.
Red Cross. How you can help.
I hope this is not another Beko fire. There was one near me where a man died and the family were severely injured in the escape. If it does come down to this then they perhaps need to be banned from sale in the UK,
That's why it's prudent to have insurance. You can't just assume someone else will pick up the tab.
In any case it is still a tenants responsibility (usually) to insure their own contents.
:man:
In many tenancy agreements it is the tenants responsibility to insure their own contents. But many tenants take their chances and simply don't bother.
Tragic? Yes
Belongs on here? No.
Significant to the majority? No.
All over the media and pushing Bargain Hunt to BBC2 yesterday? Yes.
If the contractor is to blame then the landlord/owner would then sue the contractor.
Warnings about this was first raised to the government at the time in 1999 but its "green" qualities of good insulation was prioritised above its safety concerns.
BUT isn't an event like this the reason you pay for contents insurance? For the sake of two packets of fags a month most of these people would be housed and clothed within a few hours.
Why do any of us bother?
If I lose my house in a fire or accident I'll just go cap in hand to the British public.
Although on the flip side, would they even want to having experienced what they have?
JustGiving should refund their "fees" or "slice" to the good causes...or The Government should run these things, that way we would all know it's being done correctly and legitimately.
WHATS YOUR PROBLEM, ? FREE SPEECH AN PERSONNEL VIEWS NOT ALLOWED UNLESS IT SUITS YOU.
I read no more donations needed on BBC news.
:man:
About the tower - it was mass murder. I'm no builder or anything, but I know you don't wrap a building in flammable stuff. It was a murder for money.
The problem may lie with the manufacturer of the insulation/cladding used and not the contractor or owner.
At first look, It seems like the main problem was the cladding effectively turning the outside of the building into a blast furnace. This is a pretty well documented and known concern with external cladding, and a reason why fire breaks between floors are essential, along with appropriately fireproof cladding:
I've no doubt the land owner will do very well out of this when they demolish the remains and build high grade flats in their place that the people who lived there couldn't afford in a million years.
I'd like to thank all Conservative voters for supporting this type of nonsense. Tories think building standards in this country are too high and should be cut http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-safety-standards-workers-rights-jacob-rees-mogg-a7459336.html Of course he himself is a greedy slumlord.
Also, do you even read the news? So many have donated clothes and food to Grenfell Tower victims that council can’t take any more, so money would help them far better.
Anyway, your replies have nothing to do with his original comment, and are completely based on emotions.
10m is not that much these days plus you need more land as houses occupy more space.
Having said that i wouldnt like to live in those big buildings.
