I can't believe all the negative comments about a £20 socket set, ok it was never worth £80, in fact I purchased a Draper Expert set which is almost idential for £29 a few weekes ago but at £20, less than a £1 an item with a lifetime guarantee is a no brainer, I just picked one up to keep in the car. Heat from me

Bought this set a few weeks back. Used it last weekend to undo a rusted cutting blade bolt on my lawnmower. Of which I had to exert some force. Performed flawlessly.

It's ok stuff... but 12 point drive gives the impression of a cheapo socket set...

i find them poor, had missing bits in a few sets. ratchets seem weak some broken in a brand new set, just spin round free or just lock up with slightest of resistance got a few sets, but allways find i dont have the correct bit i need
if you like spending allday going back and forth to the store swapping bits vs actually gettingthe job done in a resonable time go for these

I've been using Halfords Pro sockets sets for over 20 Years and have used them to strip down many engines and cars. One issue I do have is the 12 point sockets as they obviously don't grip as securely as a traditional 6 point versions (& I have been replacing all my 12 points with 6 point sockets)

I have owned a Halfords socket set since I was an apprentice-25 yrs ago. still in use, still in good condition. i dont care what the brand is, if i spent £20 on tools that lasts me 25yrs plus, i'd be happy. I expect previous comments are made by tool chavs. X)

Halfords stuff is pretty good and anyone who thinks differently obviously knows very little about tools and certainly has never worked on a car in their lives . I know a lot of mechanics us Snap On tools , mainly because the snap on man delivers them and they can pay on the drip . I built Prototype engines for 20 years and I've had all sorts of Ratchets sockets and spanners over the years , Snap On , Britool , Armstrong , Professional , Teng , Draper, King Dick etc and Halfords is as good as any of them .

I have had many socket sets in my time, Snap-on were one of my first and the first to break. Took it back and got a replacement which broke again. Took the ratchet apart to find plastic mechanism. Never bought Snap-on again. Halfords sets have never let me down yet, both in a professional and now diy car maintenance use.

Halfords tools are just as high quality as snap on. With the ratchets the only difference is the number of teeth in the ratchet with snap on having more teeth. I've got the 1/2 inch version of this ratchet and have had a 6 foot bar on it loosening nuts that were torqued up to 350nm plus years of rust with no problem. Great tools for the price.

You sure they were Snap on tool chests - or just Halfords Professional ones badged up? They do look the same and some mechanics are such brand snobs. I can't comment on the sockets as I've never but I bought the Halfords ones but (on the recommendation of several professional mechanics) I bought one of their professional torque wrenches. Fantastic bit of kit! A re-badged Norbar.

Reasonable quality kit for a decent price. Lifetime guarantee too. Not bad for most home jobs.

Good price, I also am a big fan of the Halfords Advanced Stuff. I'd much prefer if they did full sets of 6 pt rather than 12 pt sockets though as for any hard to remove things I always end up going and buying a specific 6 pt for that job.

I have a similar Halfords advanced professional set and use it all the time when doing car maintenance its great. Great quality stuff

Technically not as that one is Halfords direct whereas this one is Halfords ebay store.
Personally I can't fault halfords advanced tools for quality. Lifetime warranty so if it breaks just take it back to the store for replacement.

I do all the maintenance on my race car with Halfords Pro stuff. It's certainly not SnapOn quality (I have a reasonable number of SnapOn tools as well) but £20 would probably buy you a single socket from SnapOn. Professional mechanics are usually tool addicts and their addiction is fed by the local SnapOn man with his easy credit terms. It's not unusual for mechanics to owe thousands of pounds to their local dealer.
Is this likely to be used by main-dealer mechanics? Probably not. Is it suitable for serious home use? Absolutely.

It's a bit of a joke to be offended that it's not a "professional" tool set for £20.

completely 100% agree. ive been fitting cctv inside a Vauxhall Drive servicing department all week and the only thing i have seen in every bay is Snap on tool chests. not seen any of the professional mechanics there using Halfords tools :stuck_out_tongue: . Its a bit of a joke to call this a professional tool set.

What on earth are you talking about? 3/8 drive is perfect for sizes between about10mm and 15mm. I'd use 1/4 for 6-8mm, and 1/2 for 17 and 19, but if you want a single set to cover all these sizes then 3/8 is the best compromise. 1/2 inch drive tools are much bulkier and heavier and unnecessary unless you have a seriously stuck bolt.

That size square could possibly be OK as a CHILDS PLAY TOOLSET but is an absolute waste of time and money for any serious work above loosening a 6mm nut. And NO one in their right mind would pay £80 for a toy toolkit.
