Elite Dangerous: CMDR Deluxe Edition can be had for £23.19 for the Deluxe edition on PC on the Frontier store.......but here is the good part, once bought you can claim a key that will allow you to redeem the game on your steam account, and you also get a Vr key to redeem on the oculus store as well, cheapest way to do it at the moment for anybody looking for ED on the PC for normal or VR play.
Just bought it myself, and claimed the keys for it on steam and the oculus store.
Oh and remember to grab the free copy of the original Elite on the PC, no purchase of anything required to get it, just make a account.

I bought this without buying a HOTAS yet. Is it worth starting off with Xbox One controller and voice commands first or is it generally unplayable that way? Normally use keyboard/mouse for space sims but this will be in VR only.

Fine with controller, better with HOTAS/HOSAS.

Ok following. We'll see if we can get on the same server by 3.0 and i'll give you and your noq a lift to the planets/moons.

I might grab a Cutlass and also call it done, it's easy to get in too deep, and right now I probably play it less than 2-3 games that have cost me 1/4 of the amount to play. Especially given I banged £95 on a TM FCS HOTAS mostly for SC.
I'll drop you my player name, can hook up.

There needs to be some kind of health warning on these VR games and headsets, because i am sure the min you put one on time actually triples in speed.
I love this, i might just nail this onto my head for 500 years and come out when tight white spandex suits, dancing inside hola hops with lights in them, and small silver robots with indigestion are the norm.

I wish ED actually had space legs, not just some avatar of me and the ability to magically jump in to other people's ships - destroys the immersion for me.
I need to control my character, jump in my ship using the door, be able to socialise with people in communal areas and so on.
Being a player that is effectively just a ship just didn't compute after playing SC.
As a social gamer I just struggled with the solitude and always seeing NPC and crappy AI.

Yes looks to be from the 4th August. Since my last comment I melted my Mustang and got a Nox too! No more spending is the honest truth from now. I've spent about a ton so far when all i was going to get was a starter package only...Wtf is it with this game!!
Seems like it will be possible to spawn vehicles at certain locations planet side so you may not need a transport to get it down to a planet.
As for parking a Nox in an Avenger well you just need to drive it in quickly enough

I know the feeling.... I just bought the Nox this morning, for no reason at all. Now probably need to upgrade my ship as the Avenger won't park the Nox in it, too small.
Also heard 3.0 is delayed until August now, sad times... Grrr.

Yeah I started with an Aurora LN then Titan Avenger then Cultass Black...then got a dragonfly ! But I did win Mustang Alpha the other week and think it's a nice little starter ship- you can rent ( using rec) weapons so 4 longswords on the Mustangs makes it a very fast nimble fighter with a lovely engine sound. Fragile though!

I do watch ATV but find BordedGamer a good way to get the key points. I almost got caught up and was going to CCU my Dragonfly for the Nox - but two seats plus a bit of storage plus being a Drake still makes the Dragonfly the one for me.

Get a starter kit, and upgrade or loan a more sexy ship using your Rec credits (in game currency you accumulate).
I started in an Aurora and upgraded to an Avenger, still low end though

The racing does look pretty good. Every time I go to the store page though I start scrolling through the ships and then run away before my wallet has a meltdown!

Agreed, 3.0 will be the nuts. Drop me a PM if you want to wing up.
Do you watch the ATV series? Awesome insights and the visuals of what's coming looks immense, looking forward to it.

When 3.0 is out we will all be playing it plenty! Can't wait for planetary landing in 3.0- land my Cutlass then take the Dragonfly out the back to explore...oh yeah! All those planets, moons, jump points, truck stops, stations etc etc etc etc but with only one loading screen...

If it ever sees the light of day. In alpha a number of years after it was supposed to be released.
Pay to win.....
Nope, very, very pleased I didn't waste any money on that one.

It delivers more than ED does, even in current form.
ED is full, full of nothing, half developed features like CQC, Powerplay and Multicrew to name but a few. But you can land on a planet of course, provided it hasn't got an atmosphere or anything vaguely interesting about it? But yeah, if you love barren beige planets I can see the appeal.
I own both games, I own a Rhino HOTAS and I've seen both develop. What's patently obvious is that they both compliment the genre but differently.
ED is a grind fest after the first 20 hours and becomes VERY stale, made worse by the fact only 2 roles are actually viable. The game itself is solitary for the most part and playing together in community spaces is either impossible or worthless.
SC isn't finished, not by a long stretch but is already demonstrating tech and forethought that Frontier can only hope to emulate. Star Marine as an FPS game is actually pretty exceptional, Crusader is great fun with a good group (something the game is geared towards) and while not perfect is very immersive.
I play SC about 3x as much as I play ED as it's just frankly more fun and has more differing activities (racing/FPS/exploration/wave modes) and looks a hell of a lot better.
Frontier need to stop releasing half cocked features in an attempt to bait purchases, release it, iterate on feedback, support it.

Probably one of my biggest selling points for VR. Even makes simple things like docking your ship so fun
The Overload demo is worth checking out on the DK2 as well. It's a modern take Descent and looks great in VR.

I backed this game from the kickstarter. I haven't played it for a couple of years. Is it any good now? Enjoyed it at the start but they didn't add the features they promised and added other stuff that just added complexity for the sake of it.

Delivering a fair amount already- but you do understand it is a game changer? And an alpha? It is the game so many have been waiting for.

Nothing comes close to Elite in VR. The game itself is very pretty, has awesome sound, but lacks a huge amount of depth unless you join up with an active playergroup (ive been playing for nearly 3 years).
