Huh?

This site is about saving money. This deal saves money on anything that you sell on eBay for over £10. So, for example, you'll save £9 in eBay fees for something that you sell for £100. How can you not get it?

I wouldn't call it scaremongering - its just about being aware of the risks that are present when selling on ebay nowadays

If anyone asks me about selling on ebay now, and it is anything that is high value, I would highly recommend that you thoroughly read through the terms and conditions, yes the small boring print and if you don't understand it, get a solicitor to explain it to you.

Another final fee offer... another few times I get shafted by non paying time wasters.
Guess I have to wait another few months to list these again :disappointed:

sold some software on ebay, about 2 out 20 people caused issues, saying it was fake. The software was in a sealed box, so once opened it was basically useless. One didn't contact me again and the other was after 30 days. Not sure what would have happened if they sent it back early in regards to refund.

Also bought a heavy item (£10) (£20 delivery cost) but when it arrived it was heavily scratched and had been opened up before. I didn't want to pay another charge returning it to him, only to get £10 back.

You can get issues on ebay, so always check if you can get it on Amazon and even Ali Express, where the items are heavily reviewed.

A quick question - if the final value fee is capped at £1, does that mean I can set a reserve for an auction and still only pay £1 or will it be increased?

I always do cash on collection and havent been told off YET, but they have a vested interest as they own Paypal dont they? hence they increase their income!! If they start insisting on Paypal and expect me to let someone walk off with my stuff only to do a chargeback I'll just stop using it, greedy beggers!!

I got the exact same message last week when I ended a deal early, I think it must be a bot with automated message? They are just looking out for their business, but all they are doing with this sort of thing is push people to Shpock and gumtree! :smirk:

I actually sold something recently and messaged them saying paypal or cash, buyer said cash so they came to collect it asked for the cash, got it. But looked at ebay messages and I got a warning off ebay for just suggesting of paying by cash.

"At this time, no further action is being taken on your account; we want to educate you on the policy. Make sure you follow these guidelines. If you don't, you may be subject to a range of actions, including limits of your buying and selling privileges, some or all of your listings ending or not being displayed in eBay search results, listing fees not being refunded for non-displayed listings, application of fees, changes to Seller Standards rating, and restrictions on account features."
Nice threatening email from those 'nice' people at eBay - and all because they thought (wrongly) that I'd done a side deal when I ended a listing. Nice to have a near monopoly, isn't it - allows you to treat your customers like sh1t. :sunglasses:

Possibly silly question which has been bugging me....
If I list an item for 30 days and revise the price say for example after 10 days. Will the edit change the fee?
David_e
11 Jun 17 #198
Should be OK but worth reading the Ts & Cs. I had an offer once that only applied to certain categories.
David_e
11 Jun 17 #197
No but, as it says, it's invitation so if you don't get that you aren't eligible. Not sure how they decide who to invite. I sold quite a few things over the last 12-18 months and got good feedback so maybe that's how they decide. I've been getting these reduced fee offers regularly for the last 6 months or so.

Yep you know but many don't especially those just starting to use eBay or who have been blessed to date. Cash on Collection items tends to receive fewer bids and lower final value depending on what it is of course and people dont always turn up of course...

All of this scaremongering is putting me off selling any more. I want to sell my DSLR, PS4 and perhaps my XBONE.

I've sold many high value GPU's even recently including a £600 1080Ti and a couple overseas. No issues yet but fingers tightly crossed.

Maybe I won't sell to members with lower feedback scores in future. That should help somewhat.
Newbold
11 Jun 17 1 #187
All of which explains why I've got a buyer calling today to collect a high value item. Payment in cash, impossible to reverse (forged notes still possible!) the transaction, the only safe way to trade now on eBay. Far too risky for sellers any other way.

Yes if you are selling low cost items or not higly demand items you will be allright but If you are selling things like Ps4 ,latops, phones etc. there will be hundreds of scammers trying to get this fo free and sell for quick profit.

I was using ebay for years as well ,and when you are saying you are using ebay for years and you never had issue about scammers than either you are selling some cheap items 1-20-30 pounds that nobody will be bother to scam and resell or you are just lying.
I did not offence you and you call me clown? You just swoed you don't have any arguments .

I don't speak with you anymore because you live in some perfect world you will be fighitng for .
I know exactly what I have to do when somebody pay via paypal on collection,I did not ask what to do .

I asked why this is there if I don't accept and you said paypal and ebay is well aware about that, than why they don't remove this for collection in person? Its just stupid things you have to deal when you did want them in first place.
And many other things over there
chico808
11 Jun 17 1 #184
Yeah basically your right - low cost replaceable items no problems at all.

If you are selling a rare/expensive/out of production item - then seller beware.

Essentially you have to keep the money in your paypal account for 180 days - any time during that you may get a paypal claim.
dont.mack.me.off
11 Jun 17 3 #183
I can vouch for the issues raised for sellers. It depends what you intend to sell really. If you are selling lots of low cost stuff then it probably isnt an issue as one or two losses are not a big deal. When it is a high cost laptop however and buyer uses it for a few days then invents an issue for whatever reason like a scratch underneath they hadnt seen before (when real reason is dont like the keyboard action for instance or found one cheaper they like more) then they start a return and you are between a rock and a hard place paying for their return postage as well as getting a more used item back (if you are lucky). People do need to know the risks they are facing when selling.

It's not so easy to refund them because they insist paypal is safe and they will not chargeback money etc.
They know its not because they want to scam you and you can end up with negative comment that will scare other legit buyers .
Plus you can only give him positive feedback that he scam you or wanted to hahaha.

I don't use Ebay its a one big joke ,I just want to aware people about consequences of beliveing in people that will say everything will be okay after they see money on paypal account(virtual off course).

You are saying there is seller protection yes? What paypal will do if buyer open not as described case?Do you have any seller protection ?NO.
If you start fighting you can end up without item and money because they will refund buyer and tell you to fu.. off .

What if buyer don't like item and will see in auction Returns: No returns accepted? He will start return anyway and Ebay or paypal will give you 3 perfect options(accept return ,refund and buyer will keep item?! and contact buyer)
Where is option I did not accept any returns because I stated this in auction.
Do you have seller protection in this case?NO.
Do I need to continue?

Only seller protection you have is when buyer is honest and does not want to rip you off,but its not really thanks to them .

I don't know why you are saying Ebay and paypal is perfect(maybe they pay for that or something) but its one big machine to make money and they don't care .
There is so much to improve but they did not improve anything for past 5-10 years .
derp1664
10 Jun 17 #170
You can just refund them if they insist on collecting and paying by paypal even if ebay advertises it by default it's still your choice. Ebay and PayPal are well aware of the inherent flaw of paypal payments for collection items, they practically spell it out in their t&c's.
And seller protection does exist, it may not be perfect but it exists. There will always be scammers since no version of e-commerce is infallible.
Ultimately if you don't like ebay then don't use it, nobody is forcing you

True they can pay but if the above is clearly stated in your listing then it's their mistake and you can simply refund with one click and refer them to the terms stated. If you are polite about it they won't leave you negative feedback either.[/quote]

You stated in auction no paypal only cash on collection and there are people that will buy and paid via paypal and they will be demanding they want item to be send because there was paypal in auction .
It's a joke that you have to have paypal in auction when auction is collection only and they can very easy reverse payment .
Seller protection does not exist in paypal or ebay ,buyer can buy swap item(or empty box) send back and there is nothing you can do plus you have to pay everything .

Its no longer just a site that links up buyers and sellers and takes a fee for it.

Its now a site that links buyers and sellers, takes a fee for it, but also gives the buyers an airtight 100% refund guarantee as paypal as the intermediary.

I don't think this is necesarrily a bad thing, but ebay does pass itself off as being quite a casual way to sell your "unwanted clutter"

but its a fairly serious experience for all sellers and you have to be on the ball all the time when it comes to recording serial numbers, recording functionality etc

There's a lot of honest people out there, but there is also a lot of very very dishonest and devious people.

Write in your listings 'Collection items are strictly cash only'
Along with 'Items will be shipped to confirmed paypal address only, no exceptions'

..oh and 'No delivery to PO boxes' while you're at it

Likewise - but you can't stop them making a PayPal payment, and you've then got to repay it and explain why. Gumtree's a lot safer.

10 Jun 17 #149
I keep meaning to ask but does this apply for items that were listed on the date of the promotion but sell after it has ended?
derp1664
10 Jun 17 #148
Any buyer who demands to collect and pay PayPal is not a customer I want to deal with.
Newbold
10 Jun 17 #147
I don't - but eBay requires PayPal to be an option, and there's no way round that. You have to show it as an option, but then refuse to accept it, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the seller!
derp1664
10 Jun 17 #146
Why would you allow someone who collects to pay anything but cash? That is a big mistake

..and as for seller protection that covers nearly all transactions unless you send to unconfirmed addresses which you can simply refuse to do as standard (write it in your listings). Not saying the buyer can't game the system because they very much can, but I feel the examples you gave came across as ill-informed or I misunderstood what you were trying to say
Newbold
10 Jun 17 #145
The combination of eBay and PayPal is toxic for a seller now, unless you can fit into the Seller Protection Policy. If you can't (for example if the buyer collects) you're wide open to fraudulent PayPal reversals and you can easily end up losing the item and the cash. It's a dangerous game for sellers now. :disappointed:

Fantastic! Was discussing how expensive it is to sell on eBay and it's worked for me  thank you for sharing
chico808
10 Jun 17 #143
Yup - they now have 180 days to open a case against any sort of complaint about the item.

Essentially selling on ebay is now akin to running a business and you have to basically provide a 4 month cashback warranty on the item - which when selling electronics especially is quite a long time for an individual.
DelilaD
10 Jun 17 #142

Multiple quantities of same item are not eligible and duplicate listings are not allowed although there are ways around it.
Also, I would wait until this promotion actually shows up in your account (ie. at 12:01AM) before you actually end your listings, just to be sure you're not wasting your time

and yes you can just click relist btw
Adamm_92
10 Jun 17 #134
Yeh they are buy it now listings! Thankyou so I can just cancel and once cancelled click relist or would I have to make a complete new listing for them as relishing generates an old listing ?

Also i have multiple of the same item so say for instance I list a PS4 controller but I have 5 of that particular one usually I put quantity 5 so it's all in the same listing will this work for the promo so you know ?

If I listed say a PS4 for sale and have it for 'collection only', how would I generate a sale for cash on collection only? I want to avoid Paypal fees and also don't want to send it by courier to avoid problems.

I suppose I can arrange a mutual place of exchange?

So if all goes well, I would only pay £1 ebay fee provided I list on 11th - 12th, but can sell anytime upto 30 days depending on listing duration?

Sorry, I'm very new to this.
Adamm_92
10 Jun 17 #129
I already have 11 things listed on eBay will it count to them if any of them sell within the 11th-12th or would I need to remove and relist them for 30 days again on the 11th? Thanks

Well I did say it was a nitpick, I have sold stuff that was £20 or more, and one or two things over the £40 mark with these £1 FVFs, but honestly there used to be 50% or 75% ones at one time, these are better in general.
jnigel26

I will second that, I do that with lots of stuff, so simple to take a screen shot (cropped as necessary) and put them into my screenshot folder. Yea typical if you sell on EBAY ,these ones are not that hard to fight and maybe you will win .
The worst are when people swaps items.
But untill it happens you think, no it will not happen to me .
Most probably that's why we see a lot of this promotion for FVF because everybody stops selling there ,and they trying to encourage new ones to be ripped of sooner or later.
damadgeruk

Mind you don't have the "automatic relist" option on. If it fails to sell it is relisted automatically (obviously!), but will not get the £1 FVF offer. An outside chance but could end up being very disappointing.

10 Jun 17 #114
No other fees from eBay (so long as you only create a basic listing and don't add any listing enhancements or extra features (e.g. subtitle, listing in two categories etc). Of course you would still get the normal Paypal fee but at least with that you see it upfront in the money you get in your PP account, much prefer that to the eBay system where there fee doesn't come off straight away and you get hit with a big bill at the end of the month instead, always makes me think I have more than I actually do as I tend not to factor in the monthly 'ebay bill'....
ST3123
10 Jun 17 1 #113
Utter tosh, it's in eBay's interest that sellers sell as much as possible as everything sold is profit for them! Even with this promo active they are still getting some money, which is more than they would have if you didn't sell at all....

10 Jun 17 2 #108
well im thinking about selling my oculus rift which will go for between 400 -475 so i could have been charged 47.50 fees so £1 final value fee is good deal and i would like many other people love to see more of thewse
williamt1
10 Jun 17 #107
yes but dont sell loads as if it flags on their system you could be stuck with huge fee costs
ellawookey
10 Jun 17 #106
Why do you have a more than one account?
williamt1
10 Jun 17 #105
yes if it sell after 29 days you would still pay promo but be carefull this 1 pound max could flag on their computers and after you have sold loads they could take the promo off as they didnt send it and you could be stuck with huge fee costs , im going to try it but will just be listing small amounts
sancho1983
10 Jun 17 #104
Wait, so I'd only pay £1. In total? No other fees?
fatdeeman
10 Jun 17 1 #103
If you sell something for £20 you've already saved £1, it's not like it's a magazine voucher for 19p off a tub of margarine.

So if you had a clearout and sold multiple items in the £20-30 region it would soon add up. Just because it's an insignificant amount to you doesn't mean it is to everyone else.

It's not as good as the 75% off promotion for smaller sales but it's better than a kick in the plums.

No its just, who really sells something ofter for over £100 most of the time? your average user/seller might not have hundreds of pounds worth to sell, I know its a nitpick or a small gripe, but its not worth it if its less than the £40-£50 mark, its more like a coupon esque thing, not a deal to me. But hey you save a tiny bit of money so yeah, ok I guess.

Yes this doesn't look good just yet, although it says accepted upon clickthrough, its not showing in 'promotional offers' section in seller dashboard. So it doesn't look like its active, hopefully will appear in there on Sunday - not listing if it doesn't tho!

10 Jun 17 #89
Definitely agree. Sellers will want to be sure the offer will be honoured, or else looking at all this heat it's a bonanza pay day for eBay! Go to your selling page scroll right to the bottom to see your active and historical offers. Nothing there for me, although I like many have 'accepted this promotional offer'. Fishy, when these tend to be invite only. Hope I'm wrong though!

Minnig crap but I would not sell any of that on Ebay because if price of Ethereum will collapse again you will get your card back after 1-2-3 months.
They will open return request that something is not working and send back to you (they have 6 months for that thanks to paypal).
Plus these card will be working 24/7 than is high possibility they stop working in 6 months time and you will get this back as well .
That's why they pay crazy price for that on ebay.
RedTurkey
10 Jun 17 4 #85
Huh?

This site is about saving money. This deal saves money on anything that you sell on eBay for over £10. So, for example, you'll save £9 in eBay fees for something that you sell for £100. How can you not get it?
AnimeDude92
10 Jun 17 1 #84
I don't get how this is a deal, cause its not something you pay for directly sure if you're selling something for more than say £40 then its worth it I guess, maybe.

10 Jun 17 1 #80
Will there still be an invoice to pay at the end of the month?

Say I sell something for exactly £200, will I only have a £1 fee to pay? Ebay aways stings me with extra charges for selling so I have stayed away from selling for a few years, the invoice fees are the most annoying as they come way after you've actually sold your items..

9 Jun 17 2 #41
All looks well at first: "You've accepted the offer "Sell for £1 max!""

BUT look in the active promotional offers section for confirmation, and it's not there.

Guess that must mean it's only available to those invited, even though initially it all looks fine. The sting will come when the final value fee doesn't get discounted.

stoneblade
9 Jun 17 1 #36
Guys as a precaution take a screen shot of the offer accepted page and keep it safe, if ebay wont give you the offer you at least have some evidence. I've had it in the past where I have accepted an offer and then it fell through with nothing to show ebay and they wouldn't honor it.
ST3123 to stoneblade
9 Jun 17 1 #38
Yes, second this and would advise this for any kind of promotion, especially cashback deals or bonus nectar points promos and the like, where you might need the evidence weeks/months in advance.

I have gotten into doing this for pretty much any major transaction I do online, better to be safe than sorry as they say....
ST3123
9 Jun 17 #37
Worked for me, heated!
ST3123
9 Jun 17 1 #35
This is perfectly normal for these promotions as it isn't supposed to be active yet! If you read the title you would see it isn't even supposed to be available until the 11th (Sunday) so you aren't supposed to be able to use it yet and it won't display in your myebay section until it comes into effect on 11th. Being able to activate it beforehand could be seen more as a pre-registering or reserving it for when it's available....
Pspvita
9 Jun 17 #34
The deal will start 11th that's why you can't see it yet but if you accept it now your all good.
