Yes they are moving to some sort of 321 system. General household waste every 3 weeks, recycling every 2 and some other bits like food waste and special nappy collections every week. You would then have a completely separate green collection which you would have to pay up front for the year. I think it is the way many councils are going now. I can't see many people taking it up as you hardly use the green waste bin over winter anyway. I just expect to see a lot of branches and grass trimmings dumped in gateways!

The council covering my area started charging a few years ago for garden waste.

Our council stopped collecting last year unless you pay. Min charge £5 if less than 5 bags or then £1 for every bag.

Haven't used a hand push mower since I was a child but really tempted to get one. Since our council have decided to stop collecting green waste next year, unless you pay for it, I don't plan to collect the cuttings anymore so something like this might be less hassle all round.

At the risk of going off topic, would you mind explaining this news about your green waste collections, as that sounds outrageous to me.

Not great at the edges, but otherwise fine.

These are great lawnmowers - I have one from Argos - hassle free and nice to hear rather than the noise from electric and petrol. Grass is cut better with a cylinder.

Good for keeping the lawn tidy during the zombie apocalypse
