Thanks for the details and just comparing options as I understand that Y-Cam systems have as a sim card connection to contact you as a backup option but not sure how they compare fully in detail

For a local system lookup milestone essentials. Really good I run it on a 2016 VM. They have a free app which I access using OpenSSL VPN!

I have the 2 camera version, used for outside (under roof) waiting for the water proof camera for back garden.
Quite happy with it, camera quality better than any sub £200 system (think I paid £149), cloud backup of video, motion detection works really well. Night vision isn't brilliant, need to leave porch light on.
All app based, as far as I know there is no browser/windows version.
Apparently has IFTTT support, not tried it yet though.

Not necessarily, I can connect to synology NAS outside home without static IP so don't see why CCTV units couldn't employ similar tech. Whether they do or not is a different matter :smile:

Looks a good system but I wonder what happens if router/wi-fi is down/offline for some reason or possible power cut. I presume no sim card/backup option to connect to your mobile?

I've been looking at various systems, and my choice now is to build a z-wave/zigbee based local network set-up with a raspberry pi and battery backup. all the cloud based options would suffer if your internet connection went down. still trying to see what options there are though for sending an sms from a connected mobile.

There is a USB slot for a memory stick but this has not been enabled yet. In regards to the power cut, you could put it on a very small uninterrupted power supply. The chances of a power cut are slim to none.
