Found in Colchester Poundland (in one of our 5 stores!) baby milestone cards. Similar ones I looked at online a while back cost a lot more so not bad and look pretty smart!

"Congratulations. Your baby did exactly what it should do. Here's a card to say how amazingly normal and predictable your baby is!".
What do you do if your friend has a retarded baby who develops normally to start with but then stops hitting its milestones? Keep sending the cards anyway to demonstrate how far behind her kid is? Or stop sending them because the child didn't achieve? We've turned into stupid American consumerists who are duped into buying tat.

or its nice to use them to take photos with to make into a photo book for a generation that's going to grow up with very few developed photos to look back on. that's how I'm using them anyway, no two children should ever be compared and as for calling them 'retarded' I think that's a bit wrong.
