I was in b and q yesterday and almost bought one...but I've got dozens of 125mm discs so had to go to Argos for their £33 125 grinder :disappointed:

You could use this without the guards.

Was just about to post this. My grinder is packing up and B&Q don't sell the replacement brushes (plus its discontinued now). Saw these for £25 quid a few days ago but this morning down to £15 so grabbed two. One for cutting and one for grinding!
Bargain...

Can this be used to trim the bottom of a wooden door?

Err - not recommended!
You probably need a 'vibrating multi-tool' thingy, or take the door off and use a plane.

Got one of these recently to do a couple of jobs around the house. It worked well although the guards tend to work themselves loose.

can this be used to cut a hardened steel padlock ?

Yes

Yes but issue could be stopping the padlock from moving violently whilst you are hacking through it. Might need to use some strong string or wire to anchor the lock to something solid.

That looks like a great deal.
I already have two angle grinders, do I really need another one???

is there any dics i need to use for this ? or the one supplied is enough ?
thanks

Using dics would be a disaster

8 Jun 17#16
any other suggestion ?
its an amtech padlock if that helps

Cutting discs supplied would be fine. If any dics are supplied, maybe return the product, they wouldn't do the job and are likely to get sore before any real cutting takes place :stuck_out_tongue:

Are u saying the supplied dics are not hard enough for the grinding?
tobyfoley
8 Jun 171#19
While some dics are harder than others, on the hole they may not be suitable. Risk of injury may occur.

They are having a joke here about the misspelling of discs as dics there will be nothing wrong with the supplied grinding disc. I had to make an account to put this poor guy out of his misery.

Guards are fitted for a reason Only an idiot would remove a safety device from a power tool.

If it's a brass bodied padlock, cut that straight down the middle... rather than the shackle, unless the shackle is more than 10mm the supplied disk will cut it, no need to buy another disk.
Thanks for the link. What's the picker called as it doesn't come in the standard picking tools set.
Thanks again

Or by someone who knows what they're doing. I remove the guards on all my disc cutters if they get in the way. In corners etc.

Thanks. Seems there's a few sizes 7mm to 10mm.and has to be correct. Costs are around the same or little less. Plus i never tried these. Did pick my house door as a trial 5 years ago and was very easy

To cut metal use the thin cutting discs , usually labelled for stainless ~£1.
The old-style thicker discs are rubbish in comparison.

No, with these short handled ones the disc gets a little too close to your knuckles without a guard.

Anyone that knows what they are doing would leave the guard on.
It not only stops your hand coming into contact with a spinning blade but directs hot sparks away from your hand and in the case of breakage may direct blade fragments away from your face.
I use grinders daily, and it's easy to have a momentary loss in concentration or kick back. If your using a 1mm Knox disc then your fingers are gone.
If your doing it in your employment then good luck, seen people sacked for much less.

Handy grinder this. Marked at £25 instore scans at £15. Decent length of lead 3m, 2 year warranty, two tooless guards (grinding + cutting), 1 grinding disc. Not marked as softstart but there is no kick when starting and starts off slowly so suspect it is. The disc guards are useful and easy to remove . Smart on off switch too, won't run if you plug in with it switched on.
