I'll go out and get whatever car I want and I generally don't care what some random stranger will think. If you're the sort of person that judges people on what car they drive, that probably says more about you than it says about them.

I had hill hold on my 1994 Subaru, didn't know I had it until sometime in and it was fantastic, worked with the manual handbrake back then too - never needed to use it.

Modern cars with electric handbrakes never seemed to pull off the handbrake smoothly - is this better now or just better after you get used to working with it?

My quote on that came in at around £6750. It was around £500 more over the course of the lease. As I stated above, I went for 6+23 as it made basically no difference to the overall cost but reduced the upfront hit somewhat.

Can I ask a question for those who have leased before?

I understand that it needs to be handed back in good nick, but what would happen if 18 months into this and the car was written off in an accident.

Insurers would pay their perceived Market Value, but what happens to the lease, how much do you pay to the Lease company, etc etc

I sent a Tiguan back at the end of a lease a few months ago and it had a noticeable scratch but they only charged me £21 as they are governed by set rules
It was cheaper than shopping around for it to be touched up
On my 3rd lease now and don't think I'd buy again with prices as good as these

Only you can decide which suits your needs best, but if I were choosing I'd go for the Golf GTi. The Audi may be a slightly nicer place to sit, but the Golf will be more fun to drive. You'll also get more equipment as standard with the Golf.

Best way go to a dealer and try both, I always test drive before I lease. Personally I would go with the golf, although the engine in the Audi is ok (I have it in a polo ) the difference will be night and day.
I looked at the golf and really liked it, although ended up with a Leon cupra 290 on an astounding deal. Would definitely consider a golf next time if the right deal came up

You don't need to get gap insurance for any lease but it's good to have incase car gets written off as it would cover any shortfalls.

Also with these kind of cars I would get it as it's high demand for peopke to steal.

HELP ME DECIDE PLEASE .....

I managed to secure a Golf GTI deal that was on awhile back and now my wife and I ate thinking about this deal as we never had an Audi before.

So here are the details for the Golf GTI

8000 Per annum ( 8k is enough for me )
DSG AUTO
Pure White ( £250 price Inc in total )

23+6 Term ( September delivery )

£1315 Initial
£219 monthly

= £6352
( no admin fees as getting from dealer )

A few things that's putting me off the Audi is the DSG Auto , Virtual Cockpit and Flatbottom Steering Wheel. Which I would have to pay extra for. Whereas I would get them in the GTI ......... Also the Engine would be a massive difference compared to GTI don't you think ???

HELP Me Decide Please .

Had one service on my Golf on a 2 year lease, needed doing at 13 months and 18k when service indicator came on. When I handed it back at 30k it was 1 month off a service. Depends how you drive though as to when the computer tells you it needs a service. Hope that helps

Sharp drop off you say? Pure speculation.....
djaydearz

on the exact second, when the 2 year lease is up, the car self detonates.
numptyj
21 Jun 17 #120
Will need to factor in servicing for the vehicle also which likely will be 2 services.

I assume at an Audi approved garage will set you back about £200 a time. So potentially makes this £278/279 per month over the term. Still seems like a good deal though.

On a side note does anyone have experience of getting away with just 1 service stamp on a 2 year lease?
ravi47
21 Jun 17 2 #119
If you really want a hot deal buy used always gonna be cheaper. My current car BMW 320i 2009 was bought for £10,000 4 years ago with only 12000 miles on the clock. It's now done 60000 miles and is still worth 5K so 5K depreciation over 48 months about £105 per month.
manimal_GB
21 Jun 17 #118
I had a different experience last December, when I handed my Golf match tdi back I was inundated with emails to purchase. BCA were on me a month before I handed it back. It was a great deal as well, for a mint 2 yr old car with 29k they wanted 9450 (car list was just short of 20k)
Just to add I have the tsi engine in a 2014 polo, very nippy engine but needs working and is not particularly economical.I know it's not the exactly same but they all seem to suffer from oil consumption and sound like a bag of spanners when you start them up which worried me at the start!

This is a truly awful engine. I had one brand new and it drank oil.
I took it back to VW and was told it was tough and "in spec". There is info all over the web on these engines so please read up.
Mine was one of the modified ones and it still burned oil. Was putting a small bottle in every 6 weeks. I wouldn't go near personally.. shame as car is really nice apart from that.

So people who drive new cars for an affordable monthly fee and get a new one every 2 years are tw*ts? Personally, I am happy that I am leasing a car especially as I won't be exposed to the sharp drop off in diesel car prices, guess that makes me a lucky tw*t!
imran999
21 Jun 17 #110
infact you are able to buy the car at end of the term. Only stipulation is that it has to be someone other then the named leaser, so your family member is sufficient.
ridgers84
21 Jun 17 #109
It depends, each model and manufacturer are different. Leases direct from the manufacturers (Audi in this case) are ordered and built to spec. I ordered my A4 on 30th Dec 2016 and it arrived at the dealer on 16th April 2017. 3rd party lease companies may have cars in stock and can be done and dusted in as little as 1-2 weeks. Another car I considered was the Seat Ateca, it was a factory order and they quoted the lead time as 8 weeks, for example

Unfortunately, as others have mentioned, there is no option to buy- cars from BMW, VW and Mercedes go straight to auction at the end of the term.

For this reason, my wife bought the A3 version of this and it really has quite a bit of power even compared to my 2l TDI (also a lot less weight). Using cruise control on the 50 mph sections of the M3, the mileage can go well above 100 mpg when it is just using the 2 cylinders.

I have one of these on a two year lease. Mine is the 1.4TFSI A4 Avant Sport in white. I pay £242 p/m and my initial payment was 3 months advance.

The car itself it brilliant! Sat nav standard, 10 speaker sound system with subwoofer under the rear seat, parking sensors front and rear, electric tailgate etc etc.... also this car has the comfort suspension not the rock hard sports (S Line) suspension. The car itself is so so quiet. Obviously this is helped by the petrol engine, but when the car is on the move the cabin is eerily quiet.

As someone else mentioned the engine is more suited to the A3 but is perfectly acceptable in the A4. It still gets up to speed reasonably well and can be remarkably economical when wanted. My commute to work is 11 miles each way, normally when not in a rush I just drop myself behind a lorry doing 56mph stick the cruise control on. I achieve (according to the computer) between 57.4-60.1mpg, which for a heavy petrol car is not too shabby. I get 400-500 miles between fill ups. My previous car was a Mk7 Golf GTD, it had the same size fuel tank as my A4, yet I only averaged 420-440 miles per tank in that.

Overall I'm very impressed with the car. My only two gripes are 1) the offset pedals - the clutch pedal is roughly in line with the steering wheel. 2) although it has an electronic parking brake, I had to pay £50 extra for the hill hold and auto handbrake feature.

It's not a deposit as such - the car is actually £260 per month, rather than the stated £190, you just pay a chunk of it in advance. If you'd rather not pay the 'deposit', but £260 per month instead, then I'm sure the leasing company will be able to offer that option.

I'm going to assume that you want to pay no deposit and £190 per month, that's not going to happen.

Insurance differs greatly depending on all sorts of criteria, so best to use a comparison site for your own circumstances.

Cars less than 3 years old don't require an MOT, so not a factor with this deal. You will need to fork out extra for servicing and tyres though unless you take out a maintenance package.
m5rcc
20 Jun 17 #59
Run it through a comparison website - your address will have a factor on the price.

No MOTs. but it would need one minor service.

99% of lease deals don't require huge up front rentals in advance. They simply do that to make the monthlies look better.

Most if not all deals will do a one month rental upfront if you ask - and it is still the same overall cost for the full term.

I've never paid more than one monthly upfront in my leases to date.

So amortizing does tell the full story in my experience.

Car currently costs £30,000
You pay £4,560 in monthly payments
Initial payment (not deposit) £1,892
Money left to buy the car from original £30k is £23,548 therefore the car needs to be that value or more after 2 years, else you'll have to pay the remainder.

Some leases have a deposit instead of initial payment, which means you have a chance of getting that money back at the end if the car's value covers the remainder of the original value.

Note: This is just how I've interpreted it, I could be wrong...

*edit* So yes, as long as the car is worth enough (which they calculate so it should be) you just hand the car back or swap for another new one. Some also offer the option of paying the remainder to buy the car or staying on the current contract to keep driving it (not advised, as most will charge the same money as getting a brand new one...)
shininghero to RagingAvatar
20 Jun 17 1 #29
According to my supplying dealer (VW), after the PCH lease end, they aren't allowed to offer the car to you to buy due to some tax reasons but they can sell it to your spouse. I doubt the offer price will be brilliant but I'd imagine it would be between trade and retail price. I'm going to call VWFS towards the en of my lease and ask for an extension and I believe they will extend for 2-3 mth
m5rcc
20 Jun 17 1 #28
Misleading in the sense that it would be nicer to realise what you are paying net per month. Same goes with a broadband of mobile deal. Given this is a consumer driven website, there would be no harm showing both the gross and net amounts, no?
shininghero
20 Jun 17 #27
VW charges 6p+vat/mile so 7.2p, but you can call VWFS mid-way into the lease and increase your allowance and they will provide you with a new monthly payment plan (+£60 admin fee) but even with the admin fee included, it will work out much cheaper. I luckily got the Passat Alltrack deal with 5000miles/year but I needed 12000miles/year. I called VWFS and they gave me a new quote and now I'm paying about 4p/mile for the extra mileage. Way cheaper doing this than taking out a 12000mile/year plan from the outset.
Mada06
20 Jun 17 1 #26
How is it misleading? To anyone else it's very straight forward yet I have noticed in the last few lease deals you seem to have an issue with the industry standard way of laying out the terms of the offer.

You are amortising the total payment over the 24 months and dividing it by 24. Both ways work out exactly the same over the course of the agreement, but you still have a chunk to pay at the start so amortising doesn't tell the full story!

Sorry mate but that's a long post to make and be completely wrong. Do what I do and listen to what m5rcc has to say.

Deals best posted for amortized amount (as suggested above) or price per mile if that floats your boat.

Loose rule of thumb on 2 year deal is to be under 25% of list RRP on total cost of the term, to be considered good.

This seems to fit that requirement. Hot from me

good deal, daughter pays more than this for Ford Fiesta on a lease agreement.
ezzer72 to joesmum
20 Jun 17 1 #23
It's actually over £260 per month, despite the misleading monthly figure quoted, so perhaps it isn't cheaper than her Fiesta?
roscoe2000
20 Jun 17 #21
Is this the exact same spec as the one posted (at over 1000 degree heat)?

Yes, but bear in mind that some lease companies only allow you to go 10% over the allocated mileage.

20 Jun 17 1 #15
We currently have a lease for my wife's car, it's cheaper than PCP & Depreciation on buying. However the first payment ISN'T a deposit, it's a rental. You'll never get this back, which is an important consideration should you write it off after 3 weeks.

I have a company car & you can always ask to buy at the end of the lease, they just give you a price. It's rarely a good deal though. Price is based on current value of the car, nothing to do with list price.

Hope that helps

This is wrong. Your talking about PCP not Lease.
liamwheldon
20 Jun 17 #13
Oh right, I didn't take it as that when my girlfriend got one from JCT600, as it's a finance option and they don't want to risk ever losing out on £££. Maybe it's different from each company?
Kloppenhagen
20 Jun 17 1 #12
wow is that all? That's not too shabby, I thought it would be much higher.
Manny50
20 Jun 17 #11
I believe you only pay the initial payment and the monthly payments, unless you go over mileage then extra mileage charges, otherwise once the term is up it is up to the lease company if they sell it for more or less then and means you don't pay the remainder^ regardless of how much it's worth
m5rcc
20 Jun 17 1 #10
Aim to not pay more that 6-7ppm inc. VAT.
Kloppenhagen
20 Jun 17 #8
Anybody what the rough fee is when/if you go over the mileage allowance on these lease deals?
I know they vary company to company, but is there a going rate that you should typically be looking for?
ThugBasher
20 Jun 17 6 #7
Its not a stupid question at all, yes you give it back to the the lease company
