If this was DD-WRT compatible I'd grab it immediately.

I agree it's only a Wireless N and a 300Mbps router. But, for around a tenner, it's worth it.

Perfect for a spare. That's what I'd buy this for if I didn't already have about a dozen routers :man:
Still tempted... :P

How would this compare to the Sky Q router?

This or th SuperHub 3?

SuperHub3 for sure: it has N and AC with gigabit ports whereas this only has N and 100mbit ports.

Anyone know if this is any good for DD-WRT? Want to use it as a extender, virgin router doesn't get through to my tv
Like others have mentioned, it doesn't support DD-WRT

Great router - but don't be confused. This is not the model that has a repeater function, so you cannot really use it for much other than a straight/standard router.

How does this compare against the 'free' routers provided by the ISPs? Currently using a Talktalk Super Router, but would be useful to know how it compares the others as well.

This would be definitely better than the shi.. I mean free ISP routers.

QoS (not many ISP routers support this) for bufferbloat. Network wide adblocking. Network wide VPN. Quicker interface. Overall more control. Custom firmware like open-wrt, lede, gives you so much control it's ridiculous.

not really. The superhub 3 destroyed my £80 TpLink router I bought a while ago. The signal is amazing and it's been rock solid. Not sure which hardware version though

(To save others checking.) This uses a RealTek processor so it seems the widely used firmwares don't support it, e.g. Kong Mod, Advanced Tomato, Shibby. But there are more firmwares that just DD-WRT.

No, you will be given the DSL-N14U B1 on Origins standard broadband.

Note this is only a router, not a modem. To get internet access, you will need to connect it to an modem with ethernet. eg a cable modem or ADSL/VDSL modem.

Forgive my ignorance, but I use my talktalk super router and it's just a router and I don't use a modem with it. So how is this different? confused

Yes, this is NOT an ADSL router ( no built-in modem ). This is a Cable router for Fibre broadband users.

Found the signal very directional and couldn't get signal in the upstairs bathroom of all places. Virgin weren't interested, until of course, it got within 30 days of the contract end, then they were more than happy to discuss options - horrendous company all round.

I currently get an awful signal with my Sky Router, presuming I plug this into my Sky router, am I likely to see improved wifi?

This would be excellent as a wireless access point. Set IP for your subnet and disable DHCP and job done. It may even have a wireless access point wizard, I haven't checked the manual.

Looking at the manual it has access point mode, so yeah, pretty straight forward it seems. Just hope it's got better range than my Sky Hub.

oppss sry I got confused. I'm on BT now and their Smart Hub is really good. I hate similar names for their routers haha
I was with Virgin Media for 8 years and will never deal again with this thieving company!!! I'd say run away from them as fast as you can (y)

Got it, have a crappy ADSL line at home and just need a stronger WiFi signal. EE router won't reach more than five meters lol.

The TalkTalk Super Router you have is effectively a modem and router in one box. This Asus device doesn't have the modern part. There won't be anywhere to plug the phone line into it. So it cannot replace your TalkTalk box, but it could augment it.
