Exactly, my fiancé took the Madeira one to work. I cut it up but only got 16 slices. Could not have got anymore out of it or the size of the pieces , would have been ridiculous!! As, it was, the pieces were very small.

Reviews say it all
It was a substitute item as I had ordered another chocolate birthday cake for my daughter. To our disappointment, the cake was flat and very dry. It was not moist as the cake should be. We didn't enjoy it at all. I wouldn't recommend the cake to anyone. It ruined the occasion. ASDA should not keep this cake on the shelf Hide
What chocolate?
This had absolutely no taste whatsoever. Very disappointed birthday tea ruined. Will not buy again.
Very disapointed
We always had that cake on our birthdays, but today we opened the box to find a bitter disappointment. The cake is noting as we have been used before. Looks like one layer cake and when you cut it you can see two very small layers. No idea when they have changed it but if you have got any occasion do not buy this cake. I can not comment on taste, because I only cut it and plan to return it to the store, Hide

should not been a tight @rse and bought the £10 one, i can confirm is very nice and moist
Have had the vanilla tray cake a few times to send in to sons day centre or dads birthday and it's really nice. Well worth £3 just for an after school treat with grandkids

don't buy this for a birthday, very disappointing. icing is good but actual cake is very very dry, and you'll see a lot of icing being licked off with the sponge thrown back on the plates
Sorry but these cakes are dreadful, my sister brought one for her daughters birthday and it was as flat as a pancake yet alone the sponge being dry. We ended up buying another cake, I don't think celebration cakes are ridiculously overpriced anyway.

The serving sizes for these cakes always amuse me. I'm not sure you could even make a slice as thin as they'd suggest without it falling to bits.

It's just so they can keep the "calories per person" down. It's a joke really!

Check the ingredients for Cocoa content (trace) mud, clay, E's and Agents. Also they skimp on the egg (fish gut substitute) milk (chalk substitute) and used engine oil to keep the costs down :-)

It used to be good, now it's got the thinnest possible amount of chocolate which doesn't taste good.

The Madiera one seems higher rated.
