some of you guys make me laugh you want 58" TV but it has to be a 10 Bit panel and have HDR, like that is really going to happen for £566, This is a fantastic TV for the price very good viewing angles, Excellent blacks and the unit is very well made, Nice and bright with strong colours, for £35 you can buy a magic remote that works great with it.

Are you really obliged to take delivery? Isn't it better just to refuse delivery, take a photo and then chase it up with Argos (saves the trouble if return if they don't collect)
Deano37
17 Jun 17 #95
Well Yodel turned up with mine this afternoon and promptly took a 55" Bush TV from his van. That's not right i said, it should be an LG 58". 'you have to take delivery mate and sort it out with Argos, nothing to do with me'.

3 web chats later with Argos, 3 different ways round it, take it back to the shop, refund and re-order.
So rang them up and was told to check inside the box it might be the LG one inside! Guess what.......it wasn't!!
Apparently the right dispatch sticker has been put on the wrong box.
So they are going to delivery another on Tuesday. Fingers crossed. :smirk:

I like how Sony makes crappy cheaper TVs, thus forcing you into the conundrum of whether you'll fork out more for one of their better trouble free TVs
AzeemB
15 Jun 17 #78
i'm just trying to give an answer based on actual experience , the panel are thin and produce some heat, which isn't great for the components, within. I had lcd monitor die in the last week of a 3 year warranty they just replaced it with a better one and I have now repaired a few (monitors not tvs) all of which have probably failed due to heat. The difference has got to be large for you to consider it. But I would say more than £50.

I don't know much about TV specs. Someone mentioned the Panasonic and the Sony so I assumed they were better models than the LG.

I read a few reviews on the Sony model which all noted the android tv built in was slow. Reviews of he Panasonic noted it ran smooth.

I've still not ordered as I'm undecided but if you can advise on why the LG is superior to the other two I'm all ears.

The 50" of this on Argos says it has HDR in the title but this one does not?
Logic says that either this model would both have it or not and not one of the other?

this is actually a solid argument. but, I don't know how Argos handle warranty issues with large TVs, but richersounds do arrange to collect and drop off TV. many many other places do require you to return TV to them. which is a pita.

The 668v is a fake 4K tv as it RGBW :disappointed:http://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/98b248b

15 Jun 17 #63
im a little confused as above you say Sony tv which would use Andriod tv, you then mention the Panasonic which uses the Firefox system which is good but personally i think the LG is better as it uses the webos 3 system which is fast and has all the major catch up services and uses a much better MVA panel. The only drawback is if you have a small tv cabinet as the legs are fixed.
BarrattsMini
15 Jun 17 1 #62
Thanks for the reply.

Just watched a video or two and the Panasonic has adjustable mounts (brilliant) and seems to offer a more streamlined app service rather than forcing him android TV as the option which does sound better.

I'm bloody well tempted

How to get it in £566, price is £629- I want to reserve it and want to pay in store- any idea?

The Panasonic tv bigger cheaper and u can switch legs to centre and it no use Android system it use Firefox just my opinion

you might own a similar model but it cannot be this tv if you have owned it for a few years as this is a 2016 model with HDR function
EmperorRosko
15 Jun 17 #58
I actually own this TV and have for a few years, bought before the HDR boom :disappointed:

But as for pic quality it's a really great looking TV that plays Bluray and UHD Bluray really well. With the MVA panel, the blacks are very deep, almost OLED level (to my eyes anyway). The screen has a very pure black look when off, so think that helps.

If youre looking for HDR, it aint here though. Still looks great on my PS4 pro, but if you want HDR gaming, its gotta be the Samsung KS7000 series or above.
xp3200
15 Jun 17 1 #57
Sony tvs in this price range normally suffer from bad back light bleed and the Android operating system is very slow to respond due to the lack of processing power and memory the tv has, If you want a large screen TV without breaking the Bank this would be the one to go for.
BarrattsMini
15 Jun 17 #56
Thanks DiscoMan.

Would you care to elaborate on why this is better than the Sony TV?

Here's my amateur view on why I prefer the Sony. Saves me buying a new TV stand as the Sony is a central stand where as the other two listed in here have legs on the edge. Have a feeling it will require an additional purchase

I won't begin to pretend I understand TVs. I had two rather average 32" screens in the house and were due an upgrade.

I don't care to shell out £1k+ but I'm happy around the £600 marker but then you still want best bang for buck. Not sure whether the Sony or LG is better value.
sootyvrs
15 Jun 17 #52
I assume there is no advantage to get a 4k TV unless you have a source device that can playback at 4k?

I am still using my old Sky HD box (not Sky Q) which I think only outputs in 720p so probably will not see any advantages on a TV like this?
BarrattsMini

So it's 8 bit + FRC so not a truly native 10 bit tv. I don't understand any of what I just said just c and from your link and a quick google

Whilst reading your comment and recognising the familiar message r.e. the importance of 5/6 year warrantys I found myself, as normal, thinking I would not mind forgoing a long warranty - as it is generally in the first year something goes wrong - these warrantys only exist as a sales gimmick that 9 times out of 10 has to be in the sellers favour otherwise why would they offer it... and then you mention two people who had issues and I start to question my logic ... but then you state that said problems occured in the first year.. so again I am thinking 5/6 years is great if like for like price, but otherwise I would take the gamble! True risk taker me! :man:

I have this TV and it is the most beautiful man made technology I have ever seen. Picture is pin sharp - even for a glaucoma sufferer like myself.

We sit a fair distance away, our lounge is 12' square but even up close - it's just a magical experience.

Just got rid of a 20" Matsui from our bedroom which was top of the range when purchased - this is just mind blowingly good.

All online services work flawlessley and the HDD recoring is so quick and good quality!

Seems like an excellent price for a 4k LG TV - £80 cheaper than Amazon for example.
