Has anyone else had issues with this not being delivered yet?
They're now telling me they're extending deliveries until the 3rd of October due to big demand, but at the same time they're also saying that the packages are with Royal Mail, apparently since Wednesday. It all sounded like a load of bs, and after probing deeper I found out that it's not even being dispatched by them, but directly from the supplier so they're washing their hands from it.
Just got lies after lies and no accountability in the end. Their CS would make great politicians.

Mine hasn't arrived and they just admitted on chat they were only posted yesterday. Also had the nerve to say it's not a big deal, just a slight delay because they were inundated with orders.
Two and a half months wasn't long enough to prepare apparently. I think this was my last straw with Argos.

You have to factor postage and fee's on eBay. It's not worth going cheap with postage as the buyer has so many rights unless you send special delivery.
Nobody knows the true market value yet, but £50 I imagine is the least you'd get per device if sold on eBay.

Is 50 quid mark up per device realistic? I'd say that's bare minimum compared to the rate they're currently going for on eBay. Nb I'm not condoning it as such, it's merely an observation

You're spot on, I actually ordered 2 from Nintendo to see if they'd go through but one got cancelled so I've ordered a 2nd from a Spanish site so I've got one for me and one for my nephew's. I had them in my basket for Game and Argos but didn't buy them because, well, I just didn't need them. I was just staggered that they were actually available.

Smyths was a maximum of 3 per order, they won't be cancelled as this is the limit they imposed.
Everywhere else has been 1 per order, bar Argos and Game. Despite the fact they will be sold on for profit, the retailer really doesn't care who gets them.
No scalper would ever order from one place, they have multiple orders from multiple retailers, probably ordered from Smyths for 3, then get their partner to order another 3. Then they would order one from Amazon, Nintendo ect to give them a possible 8 units.
I guarantee the majority of users on this website have multiple pre orders as measure to be guaranteed one.

1 Jul 17#274
ha, so basically the people who have come a cropper with Argos are people who fancied themselves a scalper? Hopefully this means the units that would have ended up on ebay now go either back into the system or people who ordered later on after it went oos the first time aren't going to be disappointed. Either way its a win.

Confirmation received for 2 units
We can see you ordered a multiple quantity of the hugely popular Nintendo SNES Classic Mini Console. We had a pre-order limit of one console per customer on this product, as we wanted to give as many customers as possible the chance to buy it at our great value price of £69.99. Unfortunately our pre-order limit did not take effect and some customers pre-ordered more than one console so many customers missed out.
As a gesture of good will we have decided to process two consoles on your order but we will be cancelling any quantity greater than two. While your order will be cancelled immediately, your refund can take up to 5 working days to appear on your bank statement.

No I've not had any email confirmation of my order from Argos other than transcripts of the Live Chats I've had with their customer services which all say the order is on the system and I should get an email confirming this shortly. Other than that i'm just "sitting tight" and hoping my order is completed and I get some kind of email or documentation of the transaction. I have a feeling another call or online chat to Argos might be needed if I don't hear anything in the next few days to ease my anxiety! Has anyone else had the same issue of not getting email confirmation of your order through?

I ordered mine just before 10 am and my order still says "Sit tight" but I've not had any email confirmation come through. Has anyone else not had an email confirming their order? I ordered hours before they stopped the preorders, my order went from "contact us for delivery" to "sit tight..." I've had no confirmation email and no money was drawn from my account. I once shared a lift with Shigeru Miyamoto and quite out the blue he began to tell me his hatred for shops those use tiny pens. This included Ladbrookes, IKEA and obviously Argos. He was convinced they stole the concept off him from DS Stylus. For a this reason Argos will only be getting five SNES units spread out nationally which in the size in CMs of those writing implements.

Sorry guys got some bad news. My brother works at Argos HQ in the marketing dept, he says a lot of preorders are likely to be cancelled and refunded. They don't have stock levels, no one does, so they've over sold. We don't know when we'll find out for definite who and how many will be cancelled. Do not worry my friend, I would not be surprised if that is the same hardware as the original mini and with just different roms. If that is the case you can install any rom you want and even emulators for other systems.
From an electronics standpoint of view the mini is just a modified raspberry pi with emulation. One you get access you can do everything.

29 Jun 17#235
Yes, that will be the reason. Seems a shame they only put the first one on there though as many regard the second game as the best and the third one was really expansive for a platformer with lots of different routes on the map.
Also Mario All Stars is a very odd omission, would have been amazing to have ALL the 2D Mario games in one place, well except for the kooky pipe based arcade one. Cannot think of any good reason not to, if the NES mini was still around I'd say they want people to buy both but that clearly isn't the case....

Anyone who has ever dabbled in emulation has at some point downloaded and played a rom of a game they didn't own. Nobody is that square they would only download and play/keep rom versions of games that they owned. The temptation is too great.

ANY emulator = input lag.
I've used emulators on loads of systems over the years, and there are simply some games I find unplayable on them.
Mainly platform games.
It might be neglible to some, but when you're used to the original systems it's there on all the emulators, and it's horrible.
If this equals lag free snes fun then I'm in.

I've got a PI SNES emulator upstairs. It runs pretty much any 16/32bit games, uses SNES style controllers (cost a fiver) and is all built into a 7" touchscreen display, with the option to output to HDMI. Cost wise, the set up was probably very close to this, but in terms of library expansion the PI has this beat all day.

save yourself £70 and download an emulator. it's only a SNES, almost any modern PC will run it. hell, even a Raspberry Pi could. Then you can get the entire SNES game catalogue

N64 mini (if released) has no chance of Banjo, Perfect Dark or Conker - Microsoft owns the IP's.
Bond is currently owned by Activision, considering they wouldn't let Rare do a Goldeneye remake on the 360 despite being well in development it absolutely isn't happening for the mini.

Also credit to OP and credit to Argos for sticking to the proper RRP for this system unlike some other less scrupulous retailers (Grainger etc), I'm sure they would have still sold out charging much more but good on them for not doing that.
Pleased to say I got a pre-order in and really looking forward to it. just hope you can add your own games like on the NES mini as I'd love to have a SNES mini with the whole library, though Nintendo would need to use more than the 300MB storage the mini NES had.....

A bit of a nag.... it comes with wired controllers? BUT is powered by usb?? AND the usb adapter is not included! it does not say the ampage of the required usb adapter so im guessing you might be able to power it from the TV? so John Doe buys this snes, hes just paid a fortune to have his new 60" tv put on the wall with all the cables hidden, and now he has wires all over the wall from a little grey box. IF the controllers were wireless he could have put the snes behind the tv. but now hes got to sit with his nose touching the tv screen while playing it!
ST3123 to lollypoplee
29 Jun 17#135
I don't think you can expect wireless controllers at this price point AND the design is about staying true to the appearance of the SNES, which definitely didn't have wireless controllers as standard. So long as the controller cables are removable like on the NES mini I don't think it is any hardship for 'John Doe' to spend a couple of quid more on some extenders, he's obviously loaded if he can afford that fancy pants 60" TV
As to the no included power adaptor, it's a none-issue for most as if it's anything like the NES mini you can use pretty much any old USB port such as one on your TV, set top box or a nearby computer. Yes, it might not be officially endorsed but these solid date micro consoles use so little power you would need an especially feeble USB port to not be able to power it....
pelaquin
29 Jun 17#137
2.3 million of the original mini were made, Nintendo have said this will be a collector's edition like the first but more will be made. We can assume Argos would of secured much larger Stock availability than Smyths somewhere in the region of a million units, so I'm not surprised there's still stock, but give it an hour there won't be.
Fritz.Frapp
29 Jun 17#138
Nah. Like the NES mini before it, it uses USB for power. Either plug it into a phone charging USB socket or one on your TV or monitor if you have one. That's how I use mine. The controllers use standard Wii Classic Controller connections and plug directly into the SNES.

Maybe the fact that people have to pay has stopped the speculative orders that made the Amazon and other stores sell out so quickly?

29 Jun 17#109
I'm sure its all cool. They obviously had their first allocation logged into the system proper so checkout was normal for those buying the first run as it were early doors. When they called up Nintendo (i assume) and asked for another allocation they put the mini snes back up for sale but probably didn't have time to fully integrated that allocation back into the system and so minor hiccups. You got one!

From the previous threads you already have at least 2 pre-ordered, correct? So presumably you want more to flip at a profit? Fair enough.. but if you're really willing to wait up a few days drinking redbull and frantically refreshing the Argos website in the hope of making £100 or whatever, may I suggest getting a job instead?

They're now telling me they're extending deliveries until the 3rd of October due to big demand, but at the same time they're also saying that the packages are with Royal Mail, apparently since Wednesday. It all sounded like a load of bs, and after probing deeper I found out that it's not even being dispatched by them, but directly from the supplier so they're washing their hands from it.
Just got lies after lies and no accountability in the end. Their CS would make great politicians.
Two and a half months wasn't long enough to prepare apparently. I think this was my last straw with Argos.
"Good news! Your pre-order for the new SNES Classic Mini Console has now been despatched by Royal Mail for delivery on the official launch date of 29th September."
Just got a text message from argos
Nobody knows the true market value yet, but £50 I imagine is the least you'd get per device if sold on eBay.
Still, if true you have earned yourself £400ish if things go smoothly, congrats.
Money taken no email.
also fwiw just a single unit ordered not multiples.

EDIT It seems your brother has been cleared and all charges dropped. hope to christ they dont cancel mine! sacked my auntie off fwiw.
They don't have stock levels, no one does, so they've over sold. We don't know when we'll find out for definite who and how many will be cancelled.
He says this is either a huge **** up by Nintendo or they have way more stock than they're letting on.
Like someone else in the thread said we've got to pay for it sometime!
From an electronics standpoint of view the mini is just a modified raspberry pi with emulation. One you get access you can do everything.
Yes sorry was just a joke, no harm intended. I do have one reserved via the Nintendo store, really looking forward to it arriving
So long as I get the thing, I'm happy!
Anyone who has ever dabbled in emulation has at some point downloaded and played a rom of a game they didn't own. Nobody is that square they would only download and play/keep rom versions of games that they owned. The temptation is too great.
I'm no saint, recently i've playing Magical Chase on my pc engine via a Turbo everdrive (v2) do i own Magical chase? **** no i'm poor as **** bottom line we're all grubby and we all do it.
I've used emulators on loads of systems over the years, and there are simply some games I find unplayable on them.
Mainly platform games.
It might be neglible to some, but when you're used to the original systems it's there on all the emulators, and it's horrible.
If this equals lag free snes fun then I'm in.
Friday EDIT. Turns out they took it.
We've received your order. Please contact us to arrange your delivery
Anyone else have this?
Wish I'd known this sooner
"Thanks for placing your order.
Unfortunately, we can't confirm your order at the moment but we'll send you an email shortly (this may take a couple of hours during busy periods).
There's no need to re-submit your order."
I preferred to play the low-res REmake on my GC years back than play the dolphin version, not a fan emulators at all
I bet you own every 16 bit game ever release of course ^.-.
Why would I revisit this one from 12 hours ago.
There's no need to re-submit your order."
Battle Mode
Course 2
Oh yeah!

Go Go Go....
Bond is currently owned by Activision, considering they wouldn't let Rare do a Goldeneye remake on the 360 despite being well in development it absolutely isn't happening for the mini.
Pleased to say I got a pre-order in and really looking forward to it. just hope you can add your own games like on the NES mini as I'd love to have a SNES mini with the whole library, though Nintendo would need to use more than the 300MB storage the mini NES had.....
There's no need to re-submit your order."
it comes with wired controllers? BUT is powered by usb?? AND the usb adapter is not included!
it does not say the ampage of the required usb adapter so im guessing you might be able to power it from the TV?
so John Doe buys this snes, hes just paid a fortune to have his new 60" tv put on the wall with all the cables hidden, and now he has wires all over the wall from a little grey box.
IF the controllers were wireless he could have put the snes behind the tv.
but now hes got to sit with his nose touching the tv screen while playing it!
The controllers use standard Wii Classic Controller connections and plug directly into the SNES.
Thanks, got one!
Maybe the fact that people have to pay has stopped the speculative orders that made the Amazon and other stores sell out so quickly?
Or maybe it's all going to blow up and cause massive issues for everyone. Hoping for the former.
it did! now it belongs in the 'awesome section'! Christ i hope people scroll down to see its now live.
Bye
Had to wait until my lunch break and missed out, but you ****... Can't believe there wasn't a one-per-customer policy!
Good - I'll hold my breath while I'm waiting.
Now to make sure the Very order is dealt with as I cancelled that after being told in my confirmation email it was out of stock, yet they still took payment!
surprised this issue isn't made clear on their website...
EDIT: just checked my online banking and there is already "ARGOS LTD £69.99" pending on my card, they sure is quick to take money! they better make sure they'll actually have the stock allocation to fulfill all the "money taken 3 months in advance" orders!
Now to make sure the Very order is dealt with as I cancelled that after being told in my confirmation email it was out of stock, yet they still took payment!
You might be better off with pi whatnot if your looking to bury it and wanted wireless controllers?
I couldn't order on the website though so I'm not having a good feeling about this order being honoured.
Placed order 4.5 hours ago and no confirmation email yet :unamused: thankfully I can see the order on my account but it now says "We've received your order. Please contact us to arrange your delivery" I contacted them and confirmed that order is placed correctly and the courier will contact me when ready...

Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, Mario 64, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Zelda.etc
I'd pay big money for it.
Thanks OP!

i was just quoting this from argos matey
I'm not counting my chickens though. Don't really trust Argos.
Not right that they take the money upfront and then decide to refund if they can't allocate stock.
Be quick.

Ordered and got 3% TCB as well, complete result.
Thanks OP, have some flame.
Thanks for your concern but I have a job already  and yes well observed I have 2 preorders in place but would sooner have Argos over Smyth's as its 10 miles closer and a tenner cheaper to boot.
And your presumption is completely wrong
Anyone got any good deals on crates of redbull?
