Cancel Amazon Student

You can cancel your Amazon Student membership, including the Amazon Prime benefits associated with it, by going to Manage Your Student Membership.

To cancel your Amazon Student membership:
Go to Manage Your Student Membership.
Click Cancel Student Membership.
Note: If you decide to reinstate your Amazon Student membership, you'll no longer be eligible for the six-month free trial of Amazon Prime delivery benefits but can enrol in an Amazon Prime annual membership for just £39 per year (50% off the regular price of Amazon Prime).

Same here, I was disappointed by Amazon Video, Amazon Music, and the rest of the free services they add in this package. It's nice additions, but it's then a slap in the face when decent content is hidden by additional paywalls.

Amazon aren't the cheapest for items either, a lot of the smaller items I need (charging cables, SD readers etc), it's cheaper and easier to order off eBay.

At £59 (what I paid a year or so back), I still don't think it's a great service. Barely used prime shipping, heck, barely ordered off Amazon after I signed up to the service. Was ordering loads before, for some odd reason it changed.

bellboys to Mikey1610
29 Jun 17 9 #26
It's worth it for the original TV series TBH. Some real quality being produced by Amazon at the moment. Bosch, Goliath, Sneaky Pete, etc etc...I spent 79 on my renewal and that's a bargain in itself but for 59 quid its a no-brainer. It's just great to be able to order stuff and not have to make the order up to 20 quid to qualify for free delivery. And their CS is still second to none...
ibblackberry1 to Mikey1610
29 Jun 17 5 #39
I believe the value comes with using a majority of the products on offer. If it's just for films I'd say you'd be better of with now TV.

But if u like the TV and use the delivery, free magazines, free books, at storage and music service, or just a few of those then it's a bargain.

Also you can easily share the TV / music services, just pass a family member your log on for the main TV etc
BigPro to Mikey1610
29 Jun 17 #200
I tried the free trial for one month, then paid for one more month. I found that there was a good selection of movies/entertainment to keep me interested after the free month, hence me purchasing the extra month.

However, about 2 weeks into the paid month I got bored and found that most of the stuff on there was pretty mediocre with a few good things thrown in here and there. Also there did not seem to be much in the way of updates. So yes, I agree with you that most of the films are b rated rubbish, but a few gems if you can find them. But this is my opinion, others may like that kind of thing. But there wasn't enough for me to not cancel my membership during that first paid month.

No. Amazon prime reading allows free access to a smaller selection of 'over a thousand' books, magazines and comics compared to Kindle Unlimited's much larger catalogue of 'over a million' books and audiobooks.

Damn, just clicked through to see if I could gst this deal and when my membership expired.
Ajtomatically took £79 off me 2 weeks ago. I was sure I had auto renewal off grrr.

Only use it for the music and quicker delivery. Never watched a single movie or own a kindle. Downloaded a few mags but not really warmed to the pdf concept.

So £6.58 a month for the music service and a few quicker deliveries (used the 2 hour delivery for griceries a few times)
Prob just about pays itself. Though not a mega deal. If I used more services I think it would be a lot better.

Just wish I had seen this deal. Could have got the mrs to sign up and saved £20

Stupid idea not to offer prime delivery only at a cheaper price, I don't think I will ever see this deal as good value, even if it dropped to student prices.

I know that this is a bit of a "Grey Area" question, but I use Kodi a lot and any Kodi user knows that it [u]can be[u] unreliable at times... Would anyone else think that this is a better choice to use as a 2nd streaming source (after Sky) over Kodi? Or am I better off saving myself £59 and just sticking to Kodi as a streaming source? My belief is that Amazon would probably be more reliable/stable...? Input???

Where have you seen delivery moving to 2 days? It would be strange as it's moving in the opposite direction here..evening delivery now included (same day) and of course Prime Now within the hour.

For me prime is worth it even if it was £79 just for the delivery. It pays for itself at Christmas time when you need last minute items and can just buy presents at any time knowing they will arrive next day and you dont have to think about shipping costs.

29 Jun 17 #79
No thanks Amazon. I buy quite a lot from you but you are no longer prime for me. The recent sudden discontinuation of unlimited storage on Amazon Drive to customers in the USA would indicate that Amazon should find it difficult to convince wary customers that it can be trusted. I was not an Amazon Drive customer - other than the free 5GB it used to offer years ago - so I've no axe to grind but I think this is shoddy way to conduct business. Unlimited photographic storage is currently part of the Prime package. If this features highly in convincing yourself you need Prime, you should bear these bait and switch practices in mind - Prime Membership may become less prime at any moment and therefore less of a bargain.
alg

Totally agree can be so frustrating trying to find genuinely good items and not cheap crap. Sometimes has double results with same item but varying quality. I use Amazon a lot so prime is worth it for me but has made me grind my teeth as it gets bigger they are obviously not managing it as well.

The one I hate are all the clearly paid reviews who are bribed to say the product is amazing.... It's getting abused so much by the cheap tat produces, they should put a end to that as I can't seem to be able to trust the reviews any more.

Mate I was using XBMC 10 years ago before it became Kodi. I have full knowledge of all the products. You can't compare streams on Kodi to Amazon Prime Video. You're comparing apples and pears. One is instant, HD or even 4k, the other requires a degree of messing around and rarely has bit rates higher than 2000kbps. Granted, that approaches the 720p standard, but you are trying to compare two different things.

It's the compulsory sarcastic answer to the seeming obligatory daft question.

You might as well ask something like "How does that F-Type Jag compare to my Kia Picanto?"

Yes, there are too many paid reviews and they get boosted to the top of the list. Every time I see it says it was "unbiased" from a free sample I ignore it. It also annoys me that some places lie about where it's being sent from and takes weeks to arrive =(

You can create a new account each month or as and when you require to use their services. Everything remains the same other than changing email address. Do not close each account but just delete payment method in order to use in new account. All you have to do is keep a note of each email address to sign back in if you have to return something. You can use a certain address with each month at the end, pretty easy. Takes no time at all and is free forever.

Even doing it this way, it is still not that great. The music is not very good, and apart from a couple of decent original shows the TV part isn't great either. Next day is good if you can actually find something that is a good price. Often though it is not competitive.

Definately not a service worth paying for, in my opinion.

I think it's worth a subscription just for the TV shows alone. If you've got a 4K TV, and most if not all Amazon Originals are available in 4K, then the quality is absolutely astonishing. The Grand Tour, for example, looks incredible. Amerian Gods, which is as mad as a lorry, is the latest in the line of excellent shows they've made. I also like watching the AO pilots too. The films could be better though, there's a lot of crap alongside some gems. Netflix has this problem too though, albeit it's slightly better for movies.

In regards to Amazon Prime music that is part of the deal, can it run on multiple devices? - i.e. more than one Amazon Echo? (not that I have one yet!)

I'm aware of one Music plan that will only work on one Amazon Echo device "Amazon Music Unlimted Echo plan" as opposed to "Amazon Music Unlimted invidiaul plan" - I'm assuming "Prime Music" can work on multiple devices but just has a smaller, 2 million song, library compared to the 40 million songs on the Unlimited plans?

Amazon don't make it easy to understand!!

As a Prime user who was a student then took the remainder for £ 39 I was happy paying that... however... the real benefit I have from it using Amazon Prime Now... which had been handy for quick food deliveries. The movies have been lacking badly for a long time now. they arent updated regularly. A lot of movies I had saved that were on Prime I've went back to view and theyve been taken off Prime and back to having to pay for them which is pretty crappy really. If youre an avid shopper and like the quick delivery it's worth it and with the new books deal and music but it's not the no brainer it once was imo

Think I might bite at this pricepoint.

Question to existing subscribers:
Do you get free streaming access to their complete library of TV shows?
Is any of the content in 4K?
How to stream the music library to a phone / tablet?
Can you download any music to play offline?

I'd like to know this too. I currently use NOW TV and subscribe to the movies, there is a 4 device limit, I have 2 at home and the other 2 boxes at seperate relatives and it all works fine, although you can only use 2 subscriptions at any one time. My other half had a one month Prime membership. Tried to get the £59 Prime yearly on hers, and wasn't possible. So took out the £59 yearly on my non-prime account and cancelled her Prime, which still has a couple of weeks to run. I have a Dot, and had a one month Amazon Music Unlimited account when I first got that, so annoying can't get this 4 months for 99p, but have just ordered it on the OH's account, which I will run through Echo. Cool, will take a look when I get home.

I use the next-day delivery a lot, in fact I do about 80% of all my shopping (including groceries) through Amazon.

I also signed up for Amazon Music since you get a £2 discount as a Prime member and I was paying £10 a month to Spotify.

I watch a lot of Amazon Prime video too, got suckered in with The Grand Tour and now watch Bosch and The Americans.

Their free photo backup service is great too, it means my iCloud library is backed up to Amazon and Google free of charge.

Not for everyone but I've found Amazon to be an efficient service across the board.

Not found Amazon CS to be that great, advertised a collectors item (Rise of the tomb raider) then sent out the standard copy. I inquired it a few times before it arrived and each agent told me something different.

Item arrived, I complained, was told to send it back. Towards the end of the chat I asked if I could have any compensation for wasting my time, and falsifying my purchase (should've just cancelled the order and not changed the item), and was told "because I didn't ask that at the start of the conversation, I can not add any compensation to your account."

So I don't bother with their BS any more.

EBay, if something goes wrong I get my money back. Not had any issues with that and ordering from retail companies with eBay if an item is damaged they've told me to keep the original and sent out a replacement. (3 times that's happened).

I emailed them asking if I can upgrade to full prime and they wrote back advising they have cancelled my student membership, refunded me for the full year (even though my year is up in three weeks) and to sign up again at the offer price. I went to sign up but it offered me student prime again.

Either way if you email them they seem receptive to offering you the deal if you are an existing customer.

For those on a monthly sub, just initiate a chat via your Amazon account. Took 5 minutes tonight to cancel my monthly sub, which typically was due to end the day after this offer expired, and sign up for the £59 deal. Piece of cake.

Cheers to the OP ;-)

Just spoke to customer services as my prime auto renewed in May. Figured it was worth a punt. Argued a bit but they eventually refunded me the £79 and let me renew at £59. Originally they offered to cancel the membership with £0 refund and let me rebuy it at £59.. when I pointed out this would have been £79 for one month they changed their tune..

I was on pay monthly, changed this to pay yearly, got a message saying will be changed £79
Then proceeded to cancel got another message to say will be refunded £79
Then got the splash screen to sign up for a year of Prime for £59
Lets see what happens, might have to raise it with CS, can't see them dragging their feet to sort it out one way or another.

Wasn't a big deal at all. Been monthly for 3 months, with my current month up on July 4th. Asked if I could take advantage of the £59 annual offer and they just cancelled my monthly, which meant the new offer showed up on my home page.

Lost a few days of my last monthly sub, but I've had plenty out of it so can live with that.

Don't get the negative comments on here based around singular aspects of Prime, such as video - it's much more than that. £5 a month for everything they offer? No brainer for me

My method was as follows: Sign up to Groupon Ireland: buy lifetime membership of children writing course for £14: use course details to sign up to NUS & buy NUS card (also £14) = lifetime NUS card eligibility.

There are many cheap courses online that the NUS recognise as classing you a student, even though you may not write a single word of a children's story!

My membership runs until 15 February 2018. I just went on online chat and they said, "the refund depends on the prime benefits used. As you have used the prime benefits the refund is not eligible. Considering the situation, I will make a exception and issue refund of 20.00 GBP"

Basically means they're giving me £20 off my next renewal... but I'm getting the £20 now and will pay regular price on renewal.

I accepted. Still a good deal

I had the chance to continue the free Student Prime trial at £39 per year. It's the same as regular Prime but you also get a 5% student discount on some product sold by Amazon. I didn't bother as I thought it would be a waste of money at £39, let alone £59!

Just a heads up that might hep some people; I just signed up for Prime again a few days ago. Jumped on Amazon Chat, explained the situation and they refunded the £20. Might be worth five minutes of your time if you've recently renewed.

1. Visit: https://cards.nusextra.co.uk .

2. Enter your email address and click the ‘Get your card now’ button.

3. Type ‘Digital Sea Ltd’ as your ‘place of study’ (Digital Sea Ltd is the parent company of WriteStoryBooksForChildren.com).

4. Follow the rest of the steps in the application process.

5. When prompted for your Student ID, enter your ID which is: [whatever your student ID number happens to be]

Much better than £59 for Prime, you also get Spotify for a fiver a month, 10% off in Co-Op supermarkets etc...

having been with prime for a year, I would take 'one day delivery' with a pinch of salt because amazon sometimes use other delivery companies that are not amazon. For me this is a bit annoying because having set my delivery preferences to 'leave it at the front door' (I work during the week) this information is not always fed onto the third party delivery companies.
That said, the prime exclusive shows are goodish, I have enjoyed preacher and american gods

About the Amazon Prime extension clause for late deliveries, etc (usually an additional month to make up for the inconvenience)....you're not really "cheating the system" or getting a "freebie" - it's actually part of the Prime Terms & Conditions.

(This is Amazon US but also applies to the UK - weirdly on the UK T&Cs it just asks you to contact Customer Service if a delivery is late) http://www.thelostapron.com/2017/03/how-to-get-amazon-prime-free-month-extension.html

Under "Guaranteed Accelerated Delivery Fine Print":

"Note: If you received free shipping through Amazon Prime, you may be eligible for a free one-month extension when the promised delivery date isn't met. Prime Extensions are limited to one pre Free Trial and 12 for an Annual Membership. Free Amazon Student Memberships do not qualify for this extension."

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200182420
(at the bottom of the article): "If your parcel doesn't arrive by the estimated delivery date please contact customer service."

You do all realise you can get it for £39 with 6 months free???

Sign up for an NUS card (anyone can do it) via an online course (the one on the deal will cost you £14 plus £12 for the NUS card) and then get Amazon Prime Student for £39, and get 6 months free into the bargain. They'll also refund any remaining full price (or £59) Prime you have outstanding. You can also use the NUS card to get Spotify for a fiver, 10% off in Co-Op etc...

Every time a deal for Prime is posted, people like you crawl out to moan about paying for delivery and not much else...

I pay £60 a year for Prime, mainly for the TV - for me, it's worth the £60 alone. Bosch is superb, as is The Man In The High Castle and plenty of others. I also enjoy the music offering, unlimited online storage of my photos & Kindle prime reading. There are loads of other benefits I'm not that fussed about.....

I'm not a Prime member at the moment, but I've had numerous free Prime trials in the past and paid for a few month's-worth last Christmas, yet the £59 offer link via the homepage works fine for me ?

Well I think that's brilliant . Give yourself a huge pat on the back on the back and have one if the best 'Cup-a-soups' you can think of.

I just have 12 emails (all the same apart from the number corresponding to the month) if i want to buy something ill log into the corresponding month and activate trial (as it comes back after 1 year)

Its worth the 2min hassle.

I only want the delivery as all the other stuff is useless to me. Not paying for prime for the little amount i order as stuff is not always the cheapest.

The delivery is the least useful for me, in fact I always select the slower option and accrue credit to rent the latest films. Having same day when needed however is extremely useful.

Some of the TV is superb (Bosch, Goliath, High Castle etc),they also have a good selection for kids. The music service is good enough for those of us who listen to mostly older music.

All in all I think it's a good deal even at 7.99 a month but at this price it's a great deal!

Was interested but a lot of the good TV programmes are still to pay extra for like Game Of Thrones and Better Call Saul. I thought these would be free to watch on Prime. Pity

Can anyone tell me if using amazon prime trial includes you for prime day? thanks

Yes, it does. You have access to everything 'Prime'

Re the "debit £79 and refund £20" Amazon promised. I was led to believe it would be to the original payment card - they've now told me it will be an Amazon Gift Card. Don't have a copy of the original conversation so couldn't really argue.

Bit of a pain as there's a few of us all paying together. It still hasn't been sorted - I've been told to wait till the 9th.
