Driver should have maintained road position and let that w@@ker in the nissan go into the ditch. Don't end some innocent cyclists life for some reckless feckless **** in a car. Mr Nissan would think twice after hospital and a jail sentence to do that again, which is what he needs. The cyclist was doing nothing wrong.

These SJCam clones are very good and for the price they work very well.

I use one as a dashcam.
This one looks like the "4K" wifi one that I bought last year for around the same price off eBay that claimed to do 4K at 30fps but hen I recorded something and checked the recording it was only 1920 x 1080 but it was at 30fps which means that unlike an earlier version I had that only did 1920 x 1080 at 15fps, when it was raining and the windscreen wipers were on I could see the wipers on the camera at the same time they were going across the screen whereas the earlier lower fps one was out of synch.

I contacted the seller I had bought it off and they refunded half the money I paid for it as it was not as described so it was definitely good value.
Night time quality is not good unless it is something lit by your own headlights but daytime is good for the price.

This is a clip I recorded with it in December last year.

No it is going over Pendle Hill between Burnley and Clitheroe in east Lancashire, that bit is known locally as "The Nick Of Pendle"

The silly thing about that day was that there was probably another 2 miles of that road up to the next junction to go anywhere. That white Nissan was just pulling away from the junction as I was stopping at it, so he must have gone maybe 10 seconds quicker than me over that next couple of miles so if he had stayed behind me or passed when it was safe to do safe, I do not think he would have been at that junction any later than he was and he would not have risked anyone's life.

Tempted to get this. I got the one Aldi were doing a couple of years back but that was pants.

What's the battery life like on this? Thinking of taking on holiday to record some footage of quad biking, water park, etc.

Price seems pretty good.

I've got 8 of these cameras now*, they all have about 1hr-1hr15min battery life. They all take the replacement sjcam batteries if you need longer than that, although I normally just take a few of the cameras with me, or a powerbank and charge on the go. Depends what I am doing.

* I paid for one sjcam (£45), got one of these at about £20 from aliex, but all the others I have got for free or for £5 or under for reviewing them on amazon / social media.

You were a few inches from killing that cyclist. Glad to see you worked so hard to preserve your no claims bonus by avoiding the car made of steel and swung towards the skin and bones on the bicycle instead.

Also glad to see you stopped to speak to the cyclist you almost killed to see how they felt about their near death experience. Oh no wait, you just drove on...

Yes mine is plugged into the cigarette lighter socket with a USB adapter in it. It is set to run for about a minute after the ignition is switched off but it can run for over an hour on it's own batter I think, if it was out of the car.

I think if BugBrain had watched the video more carefully I was already easing over to the right, preparing to overtake the cyclist and when the nutter came past I was braking heavily to avoid hitting the cyclist and did not swerve towards him as he assumed. I was in more danger from the white Nissan hitting me than the cyclist was from me hitting him.

Cyclists have so much hate in them....
118luke
5 Jun 17 2 #21
You took the right action. You avoided a collision with either the cyclist or the Nissan. Sounded like dewonderful would have deliberately driven into the Nissan to maintain a wide berth around the cyclist. In that instance, the Nissan could easily have swerved out of control and skidded round into the cyclist (killing them) or flipped either car onto the roof and rolling down the hillside.
Your action was a safer one!!

Im fully in favour of dash cams after I was pushed into the central reservation on the m62 by another car, which was avoiding a HGV doing a last second lane change.
It brought the eastbound carriageway at junction 20 to a halt. The lorry driver just carried on regardless.

I immediately went and bought a front and rear dash cam when the car was repaired. They're also recording 24/7 in case an idiot damages my car in a car park.

To be fair to him it wasn't his fault he found himself in that position and as he said it was a split second decision. There very easily could have been a head on collision. There and the cyclist would have been squashed.

I say that as a cyclist, I have seen a lot worse on the roads than what the poster did but the driver of the other car is near the worst I'™be seen for sure.

Every day I see idiot cyclists knocking people over, riding on the pavement, thinking red lights are optional.....

SJCAM SJ5000X

SJcam are a great alternative to GoPro, though there are a lot of Fake SJCam and knock off units about.

There should be a QR code or serial number either outside or inside of the box that you can check on SJcams website to find out if your camera is a fake or not.

Well if you were hit by a car you're much more likely to get killed or severely injured than I'd a bike hit you.

Cars kill a lot more people than bikes do, both the people driving then and the pedestrians and cyclists which get mowed down.

GoPro are pretty good. But there are competitors in the market now. I have a gopro Hero Session 3 and an SJCam M10+ and the gropro is a lot higher quality compared to the M10.

Xiaomi make a nice camera called 'Yi' or 'Yi 2'
Gitup - though their cameras only currently support 1080p
Dazzne - are another great chinese brand just like SJcam and Xiaomei. Though their cameras dont support 4k yet.

These 3 make a lot higher quality cameras then SJcam which just seems to be made of cheap plastic. But they are very very functional cameras and the components used to make them arent so bad.

I would have to disagree that no cyclist has killed a pedestrian... a simple google search says otherwise:

Police appeal over pedestrian killed in collision with cyclist in ...

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/police-appeal-over-pedestrian-killed-in-collision-with-cyclist-in-shepherds-bush-a3464391.html

This was just in february. A month before there was another one...

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/wonderful-woman-killed-after-being-ploughed-into-by-a-cyclist-at-old-street-a3198936.html

2013:

Among the most serious crashes was that involving Philip Benwell, who knocked down a schoolgirl and left her for dead after jumping a red light in 2013.

Another cyclist, Darryl Gittoes, was also jailed for a year in 2015 after knocking down a 73-year-old woman in Hereford while riding without brakes and a flat rear tyre. The victim died nine days later.

So can we admit there are cyclists that are just as bad as the evil car drivers ???

I own a similar camera called the Eken H9, was posted a few times on hear and sold on GearBest. An amazing camera for the price, records 25fps in 4K but 1080p 60fps was more for me. Highly recommended

I bought a camera that was advertised as being 4K @30fps in good faith. I had not bought a fake 4K one before but I had bought a similar shaped and designed camera that was 1080 but was only @15fps.
Where have I said that I leave it running when the car is parked ? I replied to someone asking how it was powered and I said I had it set to switch off a minute after the ignition is switched off. Even if I did leave it running then in the unlikely event of it causing the car to set on fire then giving the amount I have to pay to insure my car then I would expect the insurance company to pay out without any problem as that is one of the reasons you take out insurance for isn't it ?
sandra51
6 Jun 17 #49
You seem to have a lot to say about these type of cameras Graham, can you please tell us all which one you have got that is so superior to these types and which was not made by kids in a sweatshop in China or Taiwan or any of the other similar places where everything seems to be made these days ?

If it is the same specification as the similar one that I bought then this is what the program MediaInfo shows it as recording in when set to the highest resolution :
Codec ID : MJPG
Bit rate: 14.2 Mb/s
Width :1920 pixels
Height1080 pixels
Display aspect ratio: 16:9
Frame rate: 30.000 FPS
Colour space: YUV

Bit depth :8 bits
Compression mode : Lossy
Bits/(Pixel*Frame): 0.229

Do you live in London? I suspect not. I was hit by an idiot cyclist last week in the City, who was riding on the pavement to avoid the vehicles coming toward him as he was going the wrong way down a one-way street! All he did was to shout "Get out of my f@&king way!" A female colleague came into the office with with blood all over her. She'd be hit and knocked-over by a cyclist who didn't stop. Every single day, I see cyclist ignoring traffic lights, going the wrong way down one way streets and going down the near side of lorrys at traffic lights. Some cyclist are a bloody menice.

This.

Ignorance is bliss for some it seems.

Cyclists are just as culpable as drivers, constantly cause and create accidents between themselves and pedestrians and other vehicles on the road. Love the ignorant cyclist mindset that they should be put up on a pedestal and prioritised because they decided to pick that mode of transport.

Initially i purchased the expensive Nextbase 512G and had it hardwired into the car.
However after approx 24-48 hrs recording it would lock up and freeze, and not give any indication it had done so (other than a frozen picture which i diddn't always notice). After 8 months it got stuck in a continuous reboot cycle so sent it back to manufacturer,

So i bought 2 Mobius actioncams instead, and these have been far better. They support upto 128GB memory and are perfectly happy recording 24/7. They dont have a screen, but that doesn't bother me. They have gone up in price though from when i bought mine (Paid £45 for them).

Don't cancel it. You can expect decent quality footage, but majority of the content you find in youtube are affected due to poor quality mounts that transfers road vibrations to camera. If you give a closer attention to the link, you hear the vibration noise transferred to camera.

None of these sub £100 Action Cameras supports 4K, but worth to keep an eye on ThiEYE T5e or similar spec'd cameras for better quality video

Actually not sure on ;
How many pedestrian and car drivers dead after being hit by cyclists? Zero.
as there have been a few from reports.

Hats off to people who cycle in London as to me its not a nice or easy environment in which to cycle.

However I am going to be very blunt; I am cyclist where I live (outside London) but I do work in London and there a number of speed freaks doing 20mph+ (some are hitting circa 25mph I reckon) near junctions with lots of pedestrians around. If a pedestrian lost concentration they would be toast if one of the speed freaks were to hit them... these speed freaks need to slow down when are near large numbers of people - you can't stop quickly on very thin tyres when doing 20mph+

Yes it does record in the background. The ad free paid version has a shortcut to start recording instantly.

Thanks for pointing this one out, I just ordered it. The remote control function appeals to me. I forgot to put in the discount code so that may work as well. I've been thinking about getting something like this for ages, it's a good way to judge how much I'm going to use it before splashing out on something more professional.

Cheers again for recommend - I used it yesterday and again for a long drive today. Its a packed with options, to say its free and so I'll likely buy the full version to see what else I can do with it and to remove the ad banner - its pretty customizable as is and couldn't recommend enough to someone who wants a cheap dashcam solution.

8 Jun 17 #119
At least pedestrians tend to be on the pavement and not in the road. As someone who has to drive round Cambridge regularly, I can say many cyclists do their best to kill themselves.

All sorts of ridiculous behavior - swinging out their cycle lanes to overtake, no regard to traffic behind. About 15% bothering to fit lights to their bike at night. Only slightly more bothering with helmets.

Anyone any idea if there is a car mode within the menu off this one ? Obviously want to to have the cam recording when ignition switched on . poss to leave switched on for say an extra 30 mins for say a parking mode? What is the android apk that will work with camera?
Cheers.

Ladies and gentlemen that already own one. Two questions please:
- Does it work from mains without battery?
- Can someone check if camera boots up automatically when plugged to mains (with no battery in)?

Would like to use it as a rear camera in the car.

THANKS!

9 Jun 17 2 #123
I think it has a car mode, I spotted in the description. I don't really know but I've ordered the next model up. You can forget about getting any questions answered here, people would rather have their shout about irrelevant off topic nonsense than supply any useful or helpful information.

My goodness, initial impression is that it is pretty rubbish. Mine is so flaky, 30% of the time the button cease working and I have to pull the battery. The sound is awful. But on the other hand the accessories are amazing.. And the Wi-Fi does just about work sometimes. It's a definite novelty the problem is the picture quality is not that great, it's all purple outdoors. It's much better indoors. Basically it's a fun novelty to see if you might use an action cam. I'm going to try and upgrade the firmware when I figure out how and that might help.

This now seems to be reduced even further as long as you are happy with a black body.

https://www.tomtop.com/sport-cameras-282/p-d4640b.html?mid=10000004550&utm_source=EDM&utm_medium=Normal+EDM&utm_campaign=D4640B&utm_design=2867&utm_content=2958&aid=TTEDM170614

Email just in adds a new code PJCMR10 which saves $10 off the list price of $32.99. Just ordered one, paid via PayPal and even allowing for their conversion rate it will cost me £18.58.

Code didn't work when I tried it with a silver body.

Hope this helps anyone else thinking about buying one of these. Less than £20 - Can't be bad to that!

What video quality you guys using on this camera ? tried 1080p 60fps recording and playback on my home PC and have to say the quality was very grainy and nothing near as good as my similar styled Sjcam actioncam . is there a FW update available over the supplied FW and if so how do I update ?
Jimbo123
15 Jun 17 #135
I'm in the dark myself I don't think there is a firmware update specifically for this camera. There is a chance that one of the other firmware from the same but different brand of camera, may work. I'm looking for answers myself. I have to say though, it's a shame Prince is dead because the output from this is seriously purple.

jono400
15 Jun 17 #137
Sure it was about 10 days for delivery. be interested to hear from others to find if there is a favoured setting that will give decent results as again 1080p 60FPS was rubbish ( very grainey) compared to my few year old non 4K genuine sjcam model which was bought at around £40. the audio quality was also as pointed out above pretty muffled.. find it strange to hear Jimbo123 say " the accessories are amazing " theres virtually nothing there ?! every other cam off this type comes with more mounting combination accs that you know what to do with !!

I have a gitup git2 which was £99 and that definitely does 'real' 4k, and 60fps at 1080. It's a damn good camera and just as good as picture quality wise as some of the previous gen gopros.
ian_uk1975
15 Jun 17 #139
I made the mistake of buying one of these bargain basement '4K' cams and basically threw it in the bin after about 5 minutes. They're crap and you get what you pay for at this end of the market.

The git2 is great... no comparison to the cheap rubbish pedalled by these Chinese resellers. Yes, it's around £100 but you're getting something that seriously competes with a proper GoPro. The only snag I've found with the git2 is the supplied waterproof enclosure is not waterproof! Ok to use around splash water, but definitely no good for diving or any submersion really.

15 Jun 17 #140
I have got mine today. Tested it.. 6/10.

Not real 4K or 1080p60fps. Even those the 4K recorded with 22Mb/s.

Only good for dash cam, not worth it for sport activities or holiday snaps.

Well.. you get what you pay for..

Forgot to say mine came in white (even I've ordered silver) with 900mAh battery and not the 1050mAh Battery stated in the description!!!

16 Jun 17 1 #143
Got mine yesterday.
Build quality is impressive. Once you get past the poor manual, navigation through the options is easy.

1080p @ 30fps, quality is pretty good to be honest.
720 @ 120fps, grainy, blurry, unusable in most situations.
The time lapse works well too.
Battery life is woeful, max of 30 mins out the box. Currently on a full charge so will update when I know more, but I don't expect to get more than an hour out of the small mah battery.
Would I buy again, probably not, but I'll use this as a dash cam.

As well as being complete crap mine is actually faulty as well I've emailed the company to enquire about a firmware update to solve the problems of the buttons locking out, but no reply. How does one deal with faulty items? Just send it back to the UK address and do a PayPal refund if they don't respond? By the way there was a question about accessories. I got the one which is the same camera that has a remote control and it had loads of different types of camera shoes and tripod mounts, tethers, all sorts, handlebar adapters, webbing clip on Mount..

This cam not connecting by wifi with suggested xdv app but its working fine with GoAction app. To be honest for me its not bad device for that price, quality of recorded video is ok very good for dash cam only the problem for me is bug why its not stoping recording after power is off in driving mode.

Got mine today tbh its not bad video could do with stabilizing ,only problem i have is zoom in while video recording
when it gets to max zoom it switches wifi on and stops recording.
now £16.39 free post in flash sale no code needed.
To get WIFI streaming scan code on box download sportlook app worked for me.

Well, it arrived just 9 days after ordering, posted from a UK re-shipping address.

I bought a Holder from ebay with magnetic clip and is really ok. But as said in driving mode it start recording when its start charging (start engine) but did not stop recording when charging is off. Its recording until battery will die and then next time when start engine its just switch on for few seconds and then show on screen battery low and its switching off and just keep charging without recording.
I seen there is a chance to change firmware, mayby I will try it and it will resolve my problem. I dont want to press every time stop recording when finish driving.

Just ordered for £16.39. Kind of wish I hadn't after reading some of the comments but I'll stop reading after reading that last positive one from digitaltoast who's going to order another

29 Jun 17 #167
Well, I've just cycled the school run with it, and looking at the footage I'd say it was perfectly adequate.
I could see all number plates clearly. I've not updated any firmware, it was it's first "proper" outing in the real world.

I had it on full resolution, and the display was on, so the battery died after 30 minutes. Just be aware of that. I'll try it on a lower res with the screen off next time and see how it goes.

It survived 30 minutes at the bottom of a full rainwater butt without leaking, so that bit seems OK.

As long as you manage expectations about image quality (and be careful when first opening the waterproof case - ask me if you can't figure it out!) then I think you'll be quite pleased for under £17.
