It takes a lot more than a long list of extras to make a good
car. Build quality, reliability, longevity and ease of maintenance are far more
important.

Exactly.
Even if you don't care about any of those, look at the state of that thing.

I guess you could use the £10 from the M&S voucher to buy the car after the test drive......and still have some cash to spare due to the depreciation. :sunglasses:

Ssangyong makes some remarkable looking cars, for sure.
You could imagine that the takeup of this offer will be low, and so the odds of winning the prize might be quite good...

My parents bought one when they were at silly prices. They're really pleased with it and my unjustified preconceptions were shattered when I drove it on a long trip. Shares a lot of switch gear with other manufacturers. They deserve to be taken more seriously IMHO.

22 Jun 17#23
The build quality seems good, aesthetics could improve, but a 5 year unlimited miles warranty shows more confidence than most other manufacturers. I'd not say anything to put people off buying one.

Can't criticise the spec for the price, or the warranty.

SsangYongs have looked much much worse...
Luke4efc
22 Jun 17#26
That doesn't mean it's good value, that just means it's **** build quality! Why wouldn't you get a decent second hand car (a year or two old with less than 15,000 on the clock) for that price? A 5 year guarantee is nothing. A car shouldn't go wrong in that time anyway, so it's not something to be proud of.

22 Jun 17#27
I think these deserve a little more respect, many manufacturers who are considered mainstream now took loads of abuse, there often seems a sweet point where the cars get good and the price low - Skoda, Seat etc. and Ssanyong seem to be getting there. (this from a man with a new Dacia Stepway, which is a damn site better than an £8500 new car should be)

well apparently people have to pick up the car from luton if you live in london.
Called the central dealer in london who stated that if people want a hour test drive then they can deliver the car to them but if they want the 48 hour test drive then they need to pick up and drop the car back off at luton
WTF

I got a phone call this morning and booked my test drive, the guy on the phone said to bring my driving licence but said nothing about emailing it to them.

24 Jun 17#35
Nothing awful about them at all, incredibly well specced for the price, plenty of oomph in the engine, when did you drive one?
Graham1979 to andiejn
24 Jun 17#39
The end of last month. Felt "plasticky", cheap, no expense spent. Drove a friends ssyongyang and found that to be the same. Nothing better than a Daewoo 20 years ago. Who knows might turn out to be another Hyundai and in 15 years build up a big market share based on cheap motoring then improve. I doubt it.

if you can find an airport with ANY car dealership within, you may get such a deal, however I'm not aware of any, so I doubt it.

24 Jun 17#38
Yeah, I hear that from colleagues &acquaintancies & friends with Audis that have spent more time in for warranty work than they have on the road, with range rovers constantly suffering flat battery syndrome, with VWs having christmas tree displays from faulty sensors, and so on. However, fairly safe to say the Ssang Yong will have sufficient build quality to last 48hrs test drive.

I got phone call today from my local SsangYong dealer for free test drive. They requested my driving licence copy by email before i go to their dealership next week.

Where are you getting your information from? I have booked the car (a diesel) and been through all the T&Cs with the dealer. Absolutely no deposit and unlimited mileage. I even told him I would be making a 400 mile trip and his response was "Great! We encourage that as it is a free advertisement for us."

I finally got a call today and the caller put me through to the local dealer. However as soon as he connected he said they don't have any cars available so won't be giving me a test drive. Brilliant service!

And what did you think of the car?
Also did they say when you would get your M&S voucher?
MrBeansDrivingInstructor to Zuulan
18 Jul 17#59
They fill in returns for head office weekly so apparently I should get the voucher in a couple of weeks.
The car was surprisingly good. You can obviously see where corners have been cut to keep costs down but overall, good build quality with a very high spec. I had the 1.6 diesel which pulled very well and gave me almost 60 mpg. The ride was, if anything, a little on the hard side but cruising at motorway speeds it was very comfortable with a good driving position.
