I haven't had mine yet either, and signed up mid June,

I signed up for this a couple of weeks ago, and my 3 month top up voucher came today.
You'll find it pretty clunky on mobile devices compared to Spotify, Deezer, and the rest.

Yes - for as long as you have a Groove subscription but after that you can't

It will download songs for offline use on any device android / ios / Windows, you can only stream from Xbox. You can be signed into 5 devices and play downloaded music on all of them at the same time, but you can only stream music from one device at a time. Once downloaded you can only listen to the music in the app e.g. You can't download to ios and play it with the native apple music app since it's drm'd

I've switched over from Google Play Music for this, worth trying it out for free for 4 months, plus it's cheaper for a year subscription.
It seems really similar, you can use OneDrive to store music you own and it'll show up in your Groove library. Seems pretty good so far.

I believe they'll play and sync on any W10 device as long as you've signed in with the same account.

Only while you have the subscription and the tracks are encrypted so even if downloaded can't be played elsewhere

Actually, Microsoft where one of the first subscription services to the Market, back then under the name of Zune Subscription. Hence the massive catalogue they now hold, although it's pretty much interchangable with the rest.

Microsoft - cold. They've got control of enough things already.
Besides, Spotify does whatever they'll offer and better. Music is just another industry they'd rather muscle their way into instead of innovate.

Heat added cos it's free but the Google Play offer was far better from our POV as you could cancel straight away and still get the 4 free months! Have to say we will definitely miss it when it expires so are looking at Amazon Music Unlimited Family at 15 quid a month as have the requisite 6 family members to make it an absolute steal at the price (and even better is we all have an Echo!). Streaming is definitely the future of music, about time the film industry started paying attention....

It says they will send you a code for another 3 months, during the first free month.

Last time an offer like this came along for Groove, I only got a single month out of it before they wanted to charge me. Guess I can't claim it on this one - which is a shame, because Forza 3's way better with a custom soundtrack.
Should look into whether the PC version can be configured to work with local music files, but I doubt it...

Can you download songs from Groove and keep them permanently or is it a temporary thing?

Good deal and even better if you like adding your own music to games on Xbox. It's a breeze. Forza Horizon 3 works great with this app on Xbox.

I've used Groove music for years (previously x box music), there's a decent selection of tracks and artists but not on par with the likes of Spotify

I gave Heat too....but as you say its set-up for people to forget to cancel and keep paying , if it was not that way they "could" just turn you off after 4 months after bugging you the last 2 weeks to continue....
you need an opt in which means YES charge me , not an opt out which is cancel, and its not just Microsoft as you know....

Someone that can't use a calendar to remind them to cancel something maybe shouldn't be allowed to use a credit card.

it is FREE, what do you expect, they are hoping and will find that people will forget to cancel, they offer this to entice new users.
If you're worried about giving your credit card detail, then you most likely dont buy much from the internet.
I doubt MS are trying to rip of your credit card to buy other items and yes i know that online shops get hacked all the time, but at least with the likes of a big player like MS, you should be more secure and protected
BTW Heat given OP
