These are selling like hot cakes in my local b&q. A woman thought some bloke had bought the last one and was flipping out at the staff.
They came back 5 minutes later with a whole pallet of boxes and most people took two each..

I bought this on Friday and can recommend. I use speed one and two at night without being too noisy

I bought one last week. The legs on the stand are pretty flimsy, but the fan works OK and is not too noisy.

Same thing used to happen at the place I used to work at, they'd have 2 pallets stacked up high and they'd sell out half way through the day. It begs the question: do people throw theirs away every year?

Paid £16.99 in homebase for the same model. Pretty quiet and certainly made sleeping easier last night.
Just a little fiddly to put together as one of the captive/retained bolts for the base was not welded/stuck to the leg correctly.

Said in stock for click and collect, but then said not available once I get to payment page. Go back and check stock, says in stock... have to stick to drinking more beer instead to keep cool!

Mine keep breaking. These fans are a bit flimsy.

My house is stocked with fans from previous years. usually accumulating dust in the loft for 350 odd days of the year.
But reason why we have to go out and buy new ones is because they tend to stop working after a period of time.
I got two from a hotukdeals 7 years ago. Pedestal fan for £8 from Wickes. look the same as these ones. They both died last year.
So thinking of buying some more but they've doubled in price since 2010

The last big heatwave we had, the price of air con units plummeted. Split units like you see in shops and offices got as low as £200 for DIY fit. (B&Q and various others did them)
Then we went a couple of summers with only a few days of real heat and the air con units could not be seen anymore.
A/C is not great for the environment though or your leccy bill

I've got one of the portable ones and they are around £200 not nearly as good as Japanese style split ones tho and very noisy, bit a true life saver.my flat gets extremely hot and unbearable from June to September.
Wish I could fit a proper split unit from Mitsubishi etc but can't do it in rented flat sadly and they cost £1000.
electricity cost for my 900w portable is just around £1.50 per 10 hours.
Worth every penny if you ask me.

anyone know what the energy consumption for these are like please?
thinking of buying one just to have it reach up to the window to blow cooler air in (not that it's much cooler outside)

Very,very low.
you won't even notice it on your bill even if you run them 24/7.

Around £40-£60 a year if you run them 24/7

I also got a portable air conditioner again from the last real heatwave several years ago maybe 10 years ago. £150 from homebase.
I agree, did the trick in my old flat but very noisy and heavy to cart around and store. But also died a death last year. I guess the refrigerant had all gone.
But 10 years is pretty good going for fans and air conditioners.

General rule of thumb is that for every watt an appliance uses, when kept on 24/7 it will cost you approx £1 per year. So a fan with a 40 watt motor will cost £40 a year (ish) to run 24/7

I take it you're joking but:
"Fan death is a myth and misconception, well known in Korean culture, that running an electric fan in a closed room with unopened or no windows can lead to death. Despite no concrete evidence to support the concept, fan death persists due to its popularity as an urban myth or superstition."

great - £16 to blow around the hot air and make more at the same time. Why?

This person obviously doesn't understand the cooling effect of moisture evaporation.

The sweat evaporating off your body giving you a cooling effect? Maybe?
Hold on, let me just go out and buy an expensive air cooling unit, or I can sit in front of a fan that costs nothing to run and feel cool.

B&Q site states 45w
So each hour thats a rate of 45w per hour or equal to 1080w per day (24x45)
This can be simplified as 1.080kwh (Kilowatt hours)
Times this by 365 = 394.2 kwh per year
Check your current unit price per kwh (mine is currently 13.527p inc VAT)
So 394.2 x 0.13527 = £53.32
Total cost of running 24/7 all year round = ~£53
