Last day of offer today - also updated with answers to questions that seem to keep getting asked
Nectar has an offer on for 1000 points on your next Virgin trains booking (East or West coast) here: nectar.com/off…673
Even if you aren't planning a journey you can still make a cheap booking to claim the bonus points.
Which train should I book? The cheapest ticket I could find was £1.15 for a child from Edinburgh Waverly to Haymarket making a profit of £3.85 worth of nectar points.
Can I book any train between these stations? No most are operated by ScotRail, make sure it is definitely an East Coast train service you're booking (with the virgin icon next to it) so that you qualify, not a different train operator. Friday 23rd June at 14:28 is one example and the one I booked.
There may be cheaper available journeys between different station, if so please comment: 14:18 Friday ticket is for 70p - rpope LankyChris: being under £1 this might not qualify for bonus points
Friday 30th June 10:28 Edinburgh Waverley - 10:31 Haymarket (Edinburgh) is a Virgin East Coast train - russellanam
Which website do I book at? If you are using the suggested journey above use virgintrainseastcoast.com
How to avoid postage costs Select 'Ticket on Departure at the station' and select your local station to collect tickets from to avoid paying postage.
Do I need to collect the tickets? I have for previous offers but timia got points without collecting last time.
Does anyone actually get the points from these offers? Yes, I did the exact same when this offer was on in April and received the bonus points that time. hot1805 also reports success in the past.
When will I get the points T&Cs below state these are due by 19th July.
What happens if I don't get the points by then? Contact nectar customer support who are usually good about adding missing points: nectar.com/con…act
Is there a minimum spend? Not in the T&Cs but it might be £1 to ensure you get at least 1 nectar point for your purchase so that nectar can track the offer.
What is the best use of the Nectar points? The next nectar double up event is due later this year: moneysavingexpert.com/new…omo There might be other suggestions for getting the best value from them.
Full offer details: How to get this offer 1. Click 'Visit website' 2. For East Coast bookings enter your journey and you will be redirected to virgintrainseastcoast.com 3. Make a booking on either West Coast or East Coast services for travel up to and including 3 September 4. Bonus points will be awarded within 28 days of offer expiry
Terms and Conditions 1. To qualify for 1,000 bonus points you must book your journey between 15-21 June 2017, for travel up to and including 3 September 2017. 2. 1,000 bonus points will be awarded on first booking made during the promotional period. No further bonus points for multiple bookings are available. 3. Virgin Trains East Coast tickets must be booked at virigintrainseastcoast.com therefore, please accept the redirect from virgintrains.com or, book direct at virgintrainseastcoast.com 4. Bonus points will be awarded within 28 days of the offer expiry date. 5. Incorrect Nectar card numbers or invalid Nectar cards will not be awarded points. 6. Virgin Trains (West Coast & East Coast) usual booking terms apply.

I bought the £1.15 ticket and have not received any points, I've been in touch with Nectar and upon checking the email confirmation it states that it was with Scotrail not Virgin and that is why I'm not getting any points. I'm trying to argue my case (the T&Cs weren't clear) but I'm not hopeful.

Did u purchase the £1.15 ticket?
I got in contact with them and this was the response ''In order to earn points with Virgin Trains, you'll only need to travel through Virgin Trains West Coast service. I've checked your transaction details and can see that you've travelled through Virgin Trains East Coast. Therefore, this transaction does not qualify for the Nectar points.''

Just checked and my points were added on 28th July. That was without needing to contact them as online chat wasn't working for me when I checked on the day the points were due.
Interesting the points show against the day they were added to my account. Usually for these type of offers it's the purchase or offer end date. It actually makes it a bit easier to keep track on the online statement.

26 Jul 17#67
No points for me either, always have to chase them I'm thinking it's too much hassle for £5 worth of points, they take all the details but having already received the usual points for the purchase they should automatically add the bonus points when you contact them so you have to wait 28 to not receive them the another 14 day for them to investigate like I said really not worth the points

31 Jul 17#68
They told me to wait 5 instead of 14 and then they didnt do anything after i contacted them on live chat to explain they said send me a copy of the booking so I sent them a pdf of the email booking then the same day i had the points.

OK guys been in contact with them and for the journey....I got 2 points from Nectar. The rest are actually from Virgin and they have had a few problems with Virgin honouring these...its not actually Nectar....its Virgin. So I phoned them and they need the train journey details and they are raising it with Virgin and within 28 days they will be on my account. We are not the only ones - so get them phoned and get them on ! 03448110811

21 Jun 17#47
FWIW I did this when it posted back at Xmas time and naturally Nectar didn't track but contacted them and a month later they credited the points.
Forward to two offers in March and neither have been credited - in the one case because Nectar declared that "Virgin East Coast" wasn't Virgin despite me sending them a pic from the Nectar website advertising "Virgin East Coast" and a picture of a Virgin train in their ad... and the second for a very similar reason which was again disproved by their own website. In each case they made it extremely difficult to claim insisting on receipts, pics as PDFs and then swearing that they hadn't been received (FFS their own website uploads them and reports they're uploaded...).
Add to that each email reply is a restarting with no reference to preceding communications and they eventually wear you down. YMMV

I already had an East Coast account with a Nectar card linked to it. So sorry not sure where you enter if you're new or checking out as a guest. The nectar points earned are shown on a box on the right hand side for me so maybe in the same place when at the card payment stage?
LankyChris
20 Jun 17#42
Good thinking! Does an adult ticket with a railcard work out cheaper than a child ticket (I'm assuming there aren't any valid toes for child tickets)?
LankyChris
20 Jun 17#41
I'd assume you'd still get the points without collecting as nectar will only know about the purchase, not whether you've collected or used them, but I've always collected them when doing these offers in the past as work next to a station.
If there's no virgin icon it's not a virgin service. I think the train I found was around lunchtime this Friday if that helps, can't remember the exact time.
No minimum spend is mentioned in the T&Cs I've pasted into the description but some others above have suggested it might be £1 to ensure you collect 1 nectar point so they know about the purchase to add the bonus points. The £1.15 ticket I've suggested would ensure this.

An off topic - but what is the best use of the Nectar points - I earlier used them to swim vouchers but now struggle to find good use for them as Sainsbury's are usually more expensive than other stores so redeeming there is almost counter productive?

Just ordered but unsure if its a virgin train or not. I've checked all the info that I could and it just says:
Valid on all services by the route shown. Valid 1 day only.
Bought the £1.15 ticket. There was a first class ticket for £1.10 but that mentioned it was a cross country service or something so I just bought the other one instead.
Okay had a look and this ticket is also the same, cross country. Does that mean I got the wrong one?
For the stations mentioned in the post (edinburgh) I can only see scotrail. Which stations did you guys choose? Thanks

Nectar customer services have always been good at adding any missing points for me.
What I do now is add details of the offer in my calendar on the date they're due to be added, check on that date and contact them if needed. In this case bonus points are due by 19th July
Also note that points often show in your points statement against the date the offer was available, not the date they actually add to your account, so often are too far back so don't show on the points summary unless you go to 'full statement'.
