The RX-V581 is an exciting amplifier, and the way it handles bass and sound effects is sure to whet the appetite of any home cinema fan." 'What Hi-Fi? magazine'. 5-star review. Tested at £500.
Why can't they put front pre-outs on these amps, it would cost pennies, they put phono sockets on them for things that never get used.

Everybody says Onkyo. I have had 2 , the last TX-NR 626, constant problems, losing sound ect. You gotta spend big to get an decent Onkyo. As for Yamaha's ,had 3 including this one. AND IT IS EXCELLENT. Check out What hifi review. Its a HOT from me! And not waiting for a ONKYO firmware update to get the DTS:X to work either!

I completely agree, had so many issues with my Onkyo Atmos receiver, on my third replacement one now and still got the same issues of it freezing and sound cutting out. My other Yamaha amp is 11 years old and still going strong!

Forgive me for not doing the relevant research, but I've got some old bookshelf speakers running off an old DVD player, using aux in from my PC. Would I see a marked improvement, or would I still be limited by my speakers / PC itself? Is this only a worth purchase for a good 5.1 etc set? I have Celestion Ditton II's I found in a skip

I have the 381 model. I find the centre channel to sound a bit muffled compared to previous Sony (and Yamaha) amps I've owned before. But hey if What Hi-Fi give it a 5 star review then who am I to argue...

It's subjective but I would say yes, it should sound fuller due to better Q factor on the amp. I'd recommend getting a good subwoofer to run 80Hz downwards though.

This or £100 more for the Denon? One day I will make my mind up lol.

How does this compare to the Denon 4300h or the more expensive Marantz SR7011? Thank you.

The old Yamaha YST-SW320 is a cracking sub and a lot more reliable than it's bigger brother the SW800 (I speak from experience on both)

Nice find. I have the rx675. Have been looking but not sure it'd be a massive difference. And 1 output? Come on surely a fair few people investing will also have a projector grrr..

I don't need nor want atmos. Should I get this or something cheaper? Do the 381 or 481 sound the same?

Probably the usual RS bait and switch scam where they'll tell you they only have the black in stock.
