As long as it's free shipping and not the likes of DHL, then you are very unlikely to get tax/import fees. If you search on Hukd you'll see this phone has been posted quite a bit from various other AliExpress stores in the past. The price is fairly standard. Gold colour tends to be a few quid cheaper than Grey or Black. Any comments on previous threads regarding tax/import fees are normally either people questioning it beforehand or people saying they received the phone without fees. It's not a 100% certainty but it would be a very rare occurrence if you did get hit with fees.

tempted by this as its only £116 however i have never bought from Aliexpress before and only ever bought 1 or 2 small things from china.. so im wondering if theres any extra costs when buying a phone from china? tax/import fees etc???

Yep all fine. Seller got back to me to say not to worry it would be sorted. I raised a dispute a few days ago and AliExpress came back to me and said I would be due a full refund. Just checked tonight and the money is back in the account. All is good!

Should be fine, I ordered a watch that never left Heathrow according to the tracking and never arrived, seller wanted to do a partial refund, Aliexpress support gave me a full refund.

Looking excellent.

Will do. I did contact the seller again yesterday as my tracking had said it had arrived back in Singapore. Still waiting for a response!

Contacted the seller and they said no refund as it been delivered to the UK and they pointed to an earlier date on the screen print I provided to prove his point, not taking any notice of the fact that on the same screen print, at a later date, it clearly shows its heading back to Singapore! Told then I will eventually raise a dispute with AliExpress if not resolved. Think this is going to be fun trying to get my money back!

I didn't received a Royal Mail fee to pay card. Very strange as you say and I'm a little gutted I didn't get the phone as it looked really good for the money and because of the waiting around and my impatience, I've spent more on another phone! I'll contact the seller anyway and see where I stand. Thanks again dread!

Never seen this happen to anyone before. I would have thought that once yours updated to "Submitted to shipping company at destination country", that it was in Royal Mail's hands so tracking would no longer update. For it to be returned back and for tracking to update after, seems really strange. Especially without an attempted delivery. Are you certain you never received a Royal Mail 'fee to pay' grey card?<<. Perhaps it never got past customs but apparently in that event, they return after 18 days or 21 days if it has customs charges, so it seems too early to be that if it was given to them on 30th and returned on 15th.
As for the dispute, is there no option yet to open a dispute under your order details? If not, I'd just contact the seller and show them the tracking information. I think the way the AliExpress payment system works is that they hold the money and don't give it to the seller until you confirm delivery so I'm not sure if AliExpress would need to step in first, in order to initiate the refund. But contact the seller anyway and see what they have to say.

The saga continues! Status has now updated 2017-06-15 12.00 – SINGAPORE, ON ITS WAY TOSINGAPORE. Seems it's on its way back to China now! Should I just contact seller and ask them to cancel order and refund me as I've now purchased another phone as I couldn't wait any longer? Or should I wait until I can open a dispute with AliExpress in July? Not sure of the best course of action.
I'm really pleased with this one, make sure to order for the Note 4X. aliexpress.com/ite…tml

10 Jun 17#40
Still not delivered. With others confirming that they've received there's, I don't think mines going to arrive now. Should I wait until July when their system allows me to open a dispute, or should I just go straight the credit card company as I'd like to get this sorted as quickly as possible?
Skinny.Chris
10 Jun 17#41
Ok thank you again for the advice, much appreciated
Perhaps ask your credit card company what your current options are if you wanted it sorted asap. However, they may end up telling you to wait a bit longer. AliExpress estimated delivery time was 20-40 days for this listing, I think. Whilst some were lucky and got it within 14 days, the most recent people to have confirmed they've received theirs are still in the front end of the estimated time. If you say it arrived in UK on 30th, that might be insufficient for your credit card company to step in. Royal Mail apparently allows claims for lost items 10 working days after expected delivery date. Provided they received it on 30th and is in transit via their standard delivery, then it would be expected 2-3 working days after that, so it would be too early to be considered lost, even in RM network. Unfortunately delivery time can vary greatly, so comparing to others can be worrisome and frustrating but I'd hold out hope a while longer.

One person commented a few days ago and were in the same position. See here<<. Usually it should be delivered a few days after. A number of people commented last week saying theirs also arrived on 30th but I think most of them have now said they've received it. Quite a few people in earlier comments who ordered on 13th said theirs landed in UK on 24th and received it 2 days after, so it seems strange to be taking that long after arriving in UK. Tracking stops once it's in Royal Mail's possession though, so you just have to wait for them to deliver it and hope something hasn't gone wrong.

if the lock screen is bothering you as much as it did me, you can completely disable it... Settings...about phone...miui version (click 5-6 times or until it says you are a dev.) Then back out go.. Additional settings...Dev options...skip screen lock.
Not sure if this voids any warranty but no bother to me. Cheers

There are no Mi5 variations in terms of chipset and band support so ROM would be only concern when buying. China market version will be factory pre-installed with China ROM (no Play Store + some Chinese apps). If it's a release in another country, it'll have Global ROM pre-installed (has Play Store + no Chinese apps). However between initial China release and Global ROM availability, sellers tend to create vendor ROMs (no OTA updates and other unwanted stuff baked into it). Hence listings advertised as Official Global ROM + OTA updates would be recommended. You could also message the seller requesting a factory sealed box and then install Global ROM yourself.
Since Xiaomi release new versions so frequently, there's often rumors and some surfaced recently regarding SD660. The Redmi Pro 2<< and the Mi6c<< supposedly have SD660, but I think the Mi Max 2 was rumored to be that as well, despite ending up with SD625. So whether the Redmi Pro 2 and Mi6c with SD660 will actually surface or not is uncertain. But if not, SD660 will probably be in an updated version of another Xiaomi line.

Mi5 would have different target audience to any of the Redmi phones. There'll be pros and cons for each when comparing Mi5 with Redmi Note 4 but it's dependant on the user which is the better buy regardless of how close in price they may become. Xiaomi releases new versions very regularly but I wouldn't consider it to be the time to stop buying into Redmi 4 series due to any upcoming versions. Keep in mind the Mi5 has been succeeded by the Mi5s and the Mi6, whereas the Snapdragon Redmi Note 4 was first released about 5 months old and is the current version of that series.
I think Mi5 was released mainly in China. The Singapore MI site has Mi5 listed, which I think would be preinstalled with Global ROM, but it's not a separate B20 Global Version. Therefore there'd be no way of determining if a seller happened to have the Singapore market version since the specs are indistinguishable but I'd assume the majority of Mi5 listings from any retailer are the original China market version that will be open boxed and have had the Global ROM installed by the seller. Some will advertise that it'll have Official Global ROM + OTA updates, so I'd suggest buying from those that do but given that it'll most likely have been installed by the seller, I'd recommend flashing the Global ROM yourself upon receiving it, due to potential vendor ROMs.

MIUI 8 doesn't have UK as a region in it's list. Settings (system & device section) -> Additional Settings -> Date & Time -> (Time Zone) : Select Time Zone (GMT +1 British Summer Time). But if you tick Automatic Time Zone it will use from phone network provider.

This miui is very aggressive switching off apps. There must be 5 different ways of trying to allow apps not to switch off, but alarm clock xtreme hasn't worked for a 07:00 alarm yet i.e overnight.
Colours a bit washed out. Other than that a nicely built phone with good battery. I'm looking at possibly installing lineage, but I'm trying to avoid it. Pushing emails also a problem. Seems OK if you get a few mails in a short time, but the longer in between mails the less confident I am of receiving them, but I keep opening the app to check

Dont worry, not got mine either. It probably won't update from Heathrow, they rarely do as Royal Mail are pain in ass with these parcels. Can't believe stupid seller has put $79 on it, what an idiot! Hope we don't get charged customs now! It will likely come tomorrow.
