if you choose a fast delivery, then it's more likely to get charged with customs.
choose the slowest free delivery service and it it's unlikely to get caught .
I've had about 10 phones and plenty of other items, never paid customs.
of course, you should be prepared to take the hit though, as it's not guaranteed

Just wanted to say thanks to OP and others for posting about this phone. It arrived 2 days ago. Took just 10 days from ordering to delivery and I'm blown away by the phone. It's quick, well made with a great camera. An amazing replacement for my now very old iPhone 4.

Yep but they haven't got stock , so could be June 3rd before it even gets dispatched ( at least they now show this on their site). This could mean a very long wait for it to arrive.
Its shocking gearbest put a promotion on an item they don't have in stock

Im quite sure the answer of this will be yes, but is this better than the doogee x5? The screen seems to be going funny on my x5, it's so sensitive to the tiniest bit of moisture that it makes texting impossible during the humid months

I've owned 2 x Doogee phones, the X5Pro and the X6Pro.
I've never owned a Xiaomi phone but my mate has the Mi4 and the build quality was far superior.
There were a few quirks with the Doogee phones using (or not being able to use) the camera withing certain apps and this was a big deal for me sending messages to my kids while overseas.
They did perform very well indeed but build quality was particularly light on the X5Pro.
I'm now running an LG K8 (adb terminal enabled to merge external SD Card) which is hobbled with the standard 8GB of storage. Other than the storage it's a very decent phone, build quality vastly better than the Doogee products.
My other daily driver is a ZTE Zmax 2 Pro which is of far better quality than Doogee but perhaps not quite as polished as the LG.

BAD company to order from.
They spend ages processing orders and then when they do send them out you're even lucky if you receive it.
My first order never turned up and I mistakenly decided to try them again, wish I hadn't, because a week after placing the order its still processing.

I'm looking to upgrade from my samsung S5 which will be 2 yrs old next month....*would* this be an actual upgrade? Camera is important to me - or should I look elsewhere? Advice received gratefully...
STEVENCOLBERT77 to jonathanpatterson

Nope not an upgrade.
Click on the following links for full spec of each phone....................
I'd go for the Redmi Note 4 Global edition. It will outperform the S5 in all areas except camera. That being said the camera is very decent on the Xiaomi.
Samsung phones tend to slowdown in time but their camera's remain top class.
I'm certainly not a Samsung hater and have owned a fair few of their phones and tablets but when it comes to bang for buck they aren't a match for Xiaomi.

Assuming the Mi5 meets your needs then I'd say yes, I have found Xiaomi to be well made and supported. Letv le max 2 (x829) is another I'd consider (typically £150) though it's 5.7" with 2k screen meaning battery is not likely to last as long as the Mi5.

I'm hoping for a bit of advice here. The only thing putting me off these, is my limited knowledge of android rom alternatives and size.
Is there a new spec android phone (Chinese or otherwise, I don't mind) that is the same size as an iPhone 5? I really do not want to go bigger. The only ones I can find are very old, in terms of hardware.
I also understand that you'd benefit from "wiping" the phone and installing your own rom. What sort of difficulty level is this at? I am reasonably competent and confident after reading up online. I have jailbroken Apple phones in the past (I know it's not a similar process) and can cope with anything on my laptop.
I'm grateful for any replies =)

If you buy the official global version with band 20 you don’t need to worry about flashing roms, as its already got the 'official' rom installed. Its when sellers sell the Chinese version and install global rom themselves you have to be cautious.
The minimum size is 5" for Xiaomi’s (and most other phones) I don’t think you will find anything decent spec with good value in 4”

If you're after a smaller phone then this phone or the Redmi 4x at 5 inches are the 2 I would look at.
Both these phones are global versions and fully sealed so don't be worried about flashing ROMs or scare stories about dodgy software.
Xiaomi phones are premium products not some cheap piece of tat. If you order one you will be blown away by the quality and will never look back.
Just remember to buy official global versions from reliable sellers and you will be good to go.
I'm typing this on my Redmi 4x now and can't recommend it enough.

I recommend the sony z3c in this price range. Better than the Z5C and XC if photo is your priority. Last week I had fun comparing the same pic taken on my Z3C and my friend's S7 edge. My friend agreed pic looked better on my phone! I also compared side by side with XC and screen looked a lot better on good old Z3C.
I've been trying to upgrade (bought both Z5C and XC to send them back are neither were an upgrade) so I'm still waiting but am in no rush. Iphone SE is too small IMO

Have four Xiaomi phones here and recently received a Redmi 4A for the MIL. Had a look at the Samsung Galaxy J3 with same Snapdragon 425 though only 1.5GB/8GB though decided to save £40 on the 4A as warranty rarely used IME. (unless it's a Samsung)
Can't see me buying another Samsung now I have found Xiaomi.
