Should have been called Gears of Bore, or Gears of Chore. I'm really not a fan. Acutely played all 4 games and I really don't know why they are so hotly rated. Cover mechanics are a mess and I feel divorced from what I'm telling JD to do and what he actually chooses to do.

You're right in that you'll get your fair share of salty kids on this game. And christ, the audio footsteps are abysmal. There was one post from TCOctus I believe (willing to stand corrected) who said audio was identical to 3. Yeah, right.

Oh yeah and as a bit of a Gear head you may be "WTF" when you find a Horde boss to be... a helicopter :confused:

The biggest as I see it : Gnasher is still being worked on! Even on vs Casual Ai you can hit a bot with a revved lancer point blank twice and a) they do not die b) lancer doesn't drop and they chainsaw you. There are 2 tunings for weapons (competitive and core) rather than just competitive (and I'm not competitive but its better tuning - more fun) but gnasher as said still undergoing work now to stop those incidents like above - point blanks do less damage than distant shots. TC blamed inherited code (apparently) and moved the shot towards the end of the muzzle where previously it was at the back end of the gnasher. This was one improvement that worked. Recently they even reverted their last TU for the competitive gnaser! Its been a mess really.

No horde join in progress and lots of horde quitters.

Microtransactions p a lot of people off - if you want RAAM you need to go via RNG to get him, One person spent 70,000 credits (a lot) and didn't get him.

Too many kids tbagging and getting annoyed at other people beating them to a weapon - apparently - I've never seen the latter.

Footstep audio is not a patch on GOW3. It is improved but pretty bad!

It's the only way to play specific game modes all the time. For example, I only like KOTH and to find a lobby in social of people who want to play that can take time. If you go into ranked for KOTH, you'll get the game easy enough, but you've got a good chance of coming across stacked teams. As there's no JIP, people quit when they see it's a stacked team or that there teammates are rubbish so you end up in a lopsided game sometimes. There's also quit penalties which aren't working properly at the moment.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably be happy enough in Social anyway; I never really touched Ranked going back all the way to the original game. Is there a reason why Ranked is worth going into now?

Population issue on ranked for PC, although there is an active Discord group. You'll find games on social easy along with horde as they are crossplay. However there is crossplay for ranked coming, but console users will be able to opt out of playing PC users in ranked. Some people also reported there Xbox rep taking a hit when people aee they are on PC. Game also has an ongoing issue with hit detection., lag etc. Apparently servers are only in Dublin and Amsterdam for the EU and are 30 tick. You'll also find a lot of region hoppers taking advantage of the poor lag compensation.

Just bought it and downloading all 125GB on PC. GOW has been one of my favourite game series. Hopefully it's as good as the previous games.

I thought I got 2 copies in Asda yesterday for £8, turns out I got Gears of War ultimate edition with GoW 4 early beta access. They are still sealed - I guess I could get a refund...

Yep, a re-install worked wonders for the Windows store. Should have imaged your hard drive once the Win10 upgrade was done. I can't remember how, but I managed to get a clean install done with the key.

Did you manage to get it downloaded in the end? Microsoft are pathetic, I could do with a fresh install of Windows but it will revert me back to Windows 8 then I'd have to pay for Windows 10 as the free upgrade expired last year

just a word of warning to people, the Windows 10 version forever gets stuck when downloading and it's 125gb file

Haven't played in a couple of weeks now due to all the issues, but am tempted to pick this up and trade in my physical copy. Be nice to have it on PC when my upgrade is done.
