Great price for this. Heated!

Very good option for someone who wants to play BOTW and other big Nintendo games like MK8 etc without the £300+ needed for the Switch....

Hi! The Wii U consists of two parts and one part doesn't work without the other: there's the main console where you put the games disks (on the right in the picture at the top of this page) and the gamepad which has a screen and a built in controller (on the left). If you want to play single player game, you're guaranteed of getting a controller becuase it's built into the gamepad. If you want to play multiplayer games you might want to look at an additional controller. The wii-mote and nunchuck from the original Wii are completely compatible with the Wii U and can be bought quite cheaply second-hand. All the original Wii games will also play on the Wii u - lots of cheap games!

The premium version of the wii u is black and comes with 32GB of memory built-in and a charging cradle for the gamepad. The basic version is white and only has 8GB of memory. Those are basically the only two versions of the Wii u available. The extra memory doesn't affect the performance of the games. Wii U games run straight from the disk, they don't need to be installed on the consoles memory like on an XBOX or Playstation. You only need the extra memory if you're looking to download games from the Nintendo Digital Shop (they have some quite tempting sales).

This deal is for the black Premium console, which is the one I had. I think it looks nicer that the white, and I found the extra memory useful (although I did eventually put a USB drive in the back anyway).

I bought the Wii u from game, I have a ps4 pro and Xbox one and litrelly I haven't been of the Wii u. I've spent more on games than the cost of the switch console and don't regret it.
I'm just getting all the gems before they go up in price.
Plus I've bought many amiibos I'm addicted haha.

Hot deal for a Hot console (though ordering through Game gives you £2.00 reward points), but when I ordered some Wii U games from grainger I found the website very slow and then they didn't have one of the games I ordered after all, but they did contact me and refund me. Though the games took a while to be delivered. I guess they are a much smaller outfit than Game or the other big names, but they deffo need to invest in better online infrastructure.

My little relatives love the Wii U, it's so refreshing to play Yoshi Wooly world, Mario Kart 8 and Nintendo land in 2 player splitscreen and have fun like we all used to before online became the main focus. COD, Assasins Creed and Splinter Cell are on it aswell, and being able to play on the gamepad screen with headphones is practical and immersive. Really what let it down was very poor marketing, a silly name (just calling it Wii 2 would of increased sales) and maybe a slightly underpowered CPU that made porting games more of a chore for lazy devs. Ram and GPU are far superior to PS3 and X360. The online eshop store is also abit meh and the prices are pretty extortionate when all the games are cheaper in physical form and the indies are cheaper on other platforms.

I bought a preowned wii u and recommend it. I couldn't justify the full RRP they charged, but there's still many decent titles I never played. Until the switch gets more titles, then I'd say a preowned Wii U is a better buy.

I play on my Wii U more often than the PS4. The games are just pure fun and don't take themselves too serious. I can play Breath Of The Wild, Twilight Princess, Windwaker, Mario Kart 8, Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong, Pikmin and Metroid Prime Trilogy on a machine that costs less than £100.

I put homebrew on my WiiU this week and works perfect, they have finally cracked it properly, 500gb HDD and your away! It is still a little risky though.

Games I play all the time:

MK8
Splatoon
Super Mario

JUST PURE FUN!

Could you recommend a hard drive? I've tried a portable 1tb I had lying around but the Wii U cant format it for some reason!

29 May 17 #14
As long as you don't mess redNAND you should be fine, no risks at all. I've never needed it.
dealhunter1233 to dognobs
30 May 17 #37
It's the easiest console I've run homebrew/similar on. Put some files on an SD card, navigate to a website and done. Transferred all of my discs to the SD card so I can just play it off of that, plus I can use the same ISOs to play the games at 4K through cemu on my computer.

30 May 17 #61
What do you meany by a little risky?
reddragon105
29 May 17 2 #15
Any hard drive should work and the Wii U supports 1tb. The problem you're probably having is with power - the Wii U's USB ports don't provide enough power for a portable hard drive (one that's powered just by the USB ports) so you will need to either a) use an external (mains powered) hard drive or b) get a Y-shaped USB cable for the drive you already have that will allow you to get power from two USB ports.

You can mess with redNAND all you want - that's what it's for. It's sysNAND you've got to be careful with. But the hacking methods are relatively simple and there are some foolproof guides out there so you shouldn't even need redNAND unless you want to develop your own hacks or homebrew on the console.

Yeah, seriously, the only advantage I see the Switch having is its portability. It's great being able to switch from playing Zelda on the TV to the Gamepad, the only downside is the streaming signal doesn't reach very far. But considering the much bigger library of games I'm happy to live with it for a few more years until I've finished all the Wii U games I have and there are some more must-haves on the Switch. My Wii U was gathering dust for a while, but now that I'm into it I'm really into it.

I was a fan of the Nintendo Wii. Last year I got the Wii U and it is absolute rubbish. Games like Donkey Kong Freeze and Mario World are so hard they become unplayable. Every time I look at this worthless console I want to give it a good, hard kick.

That's how the real games supposed to be. You don't want to complete it in few hours when you pay for it. And how hard it can be when my 7 year old is just about to complete Mario world. Took him few months though.

It gets everyone who tries to connect a portable HDD to their Wii U - I went through the same thing of trying to figure out why my HDD wasn't working until it was pointed out to me, so glad to pass the advice on! In fact I need to order another one so I can add a second hard drive to have one for Wii/GameCube games as well. Only then I'll have no USB ports left...

It's not a hard game except the last few stages on world crown, Mystery House Marathon and Champion's Road if your 7 year old beat them levels that is seriously impressive as they compare to some of the harder stages of super meat boy which is a very hard game to beat.

We run an hdd off our wii, 250gb 2.5inch and only need to plug in one of the usb y leads leaving the other usb free for other things.

Is it easy for us to use the same ydd with the wii u keeping all the same games on it?

You will need a dedicated HDD for the Wii U as it formats the HDD and cannot be plugged into anything else (including a PC or Mac)

Got one instore yesterday from grainger games, it was priced at £99 but went through at £98.99.
The gamepad is in great condition and the main unit has a couple of light scratches, the stand, hdmi lead etc are all
there.

I got Zelda botw and its great, no need for switch yet. I have the main unit upstairs and was surprised that the gamepad worked downstairs as I thought the range would be short.

I think I will give the switch till next year to build up its game library and until then I will play this to death with its huge back catalog, my 4 year old loves it

I love seeing love for Nintendo products. People still think they're for kids and don't understand they really are about gaming and that's why they've rejected the awful, awful achievement systems that add grind and not joy. Nintendo really are trying to keep gaming pure compared to most companies.

The console is pretty much busted wide open. Full compatibility, multi region, all eshop games from all territories, an app that you download directly from Nintendo's Servers. Haven't messed with Vwii but I believe that's all working fine too with the same compatibility you'd get on a normal Wii. Someone can correct me on that.

Children are far easier to mod from an early age.
Whilst strict discipline and rewards based system might work, if there are deep rooted ingrained character flaws then it might take much more 1:1 training or perhaps you might need to seek the help of a professional.

Children cannot be modified to run the latest software but I have seen a service advertised, in the middle east, whereby kids with a certain blood type are able to be fitted with USB, dual layer Blu-ray drive and Mini Display port so theoretically its possible. Check your childs bloody type and firmware version.

Having said all that Im no expert in the field of childcare nor gaming consoles, so theres a good chance i could have dreamt all this...

It will still have all normal functions - so, yes, it will still play games from disc and still work online. There's a chance that Nintendo might start banning people from online in future but it doesn't seem to be happening as of yet.

If you're running games from SD card it sounds like you're still using Loadiine. You could switch to using proper CFW for a better and more reliable experience.

There is far less lube involved now. Once proper CFW is installed, the console just boots up and you can do everything as normal. Games are installed to the 8/32gb internal system storage or an external HDD and run as normal, just as if you'd bought them from the eShop - as opposed to the Loadiine method of connecting to a web server and running each game via a Mii Maker exploit which, I don't know about you, but I found quite painstaking and incredibly unreliable. Now everything just works.

Yes, you can, and that is exactly why I modded mine. You will be able to play GameCube games in vWii mode using a loader called Nintendont that unlocks the GameCube functionality. You won't be able to play them from disc - it will have to be ISOs from an external hard drive - but once it's setup you will be able to play them just by clicking on them (so if you've ever used a softmodded Wii, it's exactly like that - you'll just have them listed along with all your Wii games). You'll be able to use a GameCube controller if you have one of the USB adaptors for them they made for Smash Bros on the Wii U but a bunch of others are also included, including the Wii U Pro controller and Dual Shock 3.

If like me I wanted ULTRA convenience so I wanted Haxchi to boot on load this involves BUYING a game for the e-store and the loading Coldboot Haxchi. The reason this is risky is if you move or tamper with the bought game it will brick your console.

It is handy if you can block sites on your router as it will be running on a CFW you don't want this updating if you can run your own DNS server that would be better however people are hosting free DNS forwarding servers for now and they are not hard to find. This allows you to play online "WiiU_USB_Helper" software is every game under the sun from the e-shop please make sure you own them before downloading. Make sure you have a self powered or Y USB cable for your external HDD as it does need that extra power and works fast. Get a fast SD CARD at 32/64gb min as some games are 14gb and need to used the SD card to put them on the HDD YOU CAN'T DO THIS DIRECT! YET!

As for VWii Just crack and keep a old wii it is Very stable and works better for now as some homebrew does not work on the VWii

My 8gb version has just arrived, inside the outer carton was the retail package, and to be fair, everything was there and it was all in next to pristine condition. nothing that a duster can't sort. more than happy.

Sorry you are having issues, do they have a facebook and/or twitter account, a lot of companies respond better to social network posts than email support.
