Was just looking for a new Li-ion screwdriver as I've broken the gearbox on my old Mac Allister £5 one from B&Q I got a few years ago and stumbled across this. Was labelled at full price on the shelf but went through the till at this price. Has the handy swivel handle that my old one didn't have.
Think this was reduced last year to £9.99.

customer reviews say battery doesn't hold charge and is not suitable even for light indoor occasional use.
I'd avoid.

Well that's one review from 9 months ago stating their experience over a 2 year period so ~ 2 years 9 months. On the box it states it has a Samsung battery which makes me wonder if that might be a more recent change as the later reviews are more positive. Only time will tell but on my old one lasted for ages both in operation and storage so it has quite a high bar to meet.

Can't understand why this is hot. Can you not pick these up for around £5. Saw another on a deal here for £5 and that hardly was hot and this is nearly double that

lower the voltage on power tools the higher the required current. So more demand on an already poor battery.
Avoid you won't be disappointed. Buy and you will be.

Umm have you ever owned / used one? If you care to look at a listing of cordless screwdrivers then the majority are 3.6V as that's the voltage from a typical high power Li-ion cell. As I've stated above my previous £5 MacAllisters were really good value and surprised at battery life both in action and storage whilst providing an amazing torque, so much so that that the gearbox actually broke doing a job I should have used some manual tools for.
Just dug out the previous post where I bought those MacAllister screwdrivers from and once again there is at least one person questioning the power of 3.6V, nothing changes!

I had a NiCd one of these which was a complete waste of money, but I accept that the technology may have moved on a bit since then. Still, once bitten etc.

Technology has definitely moved on as NiCd cells don't have the same ability to keep a charge for a long period and I believe Li-ion have a higher voltage per cell. Most of the Li-ion power drills have 4 - 6 of the Li-ion cells now depending on the voltage and the Gtech airram vacuums have 6 of these cells as well. All very powerful with a long lasting charge.

The power screwdriver I had just didn't have the torque to be any use for anything serious. That was from the word go, so it wasn't the batteries fading over time, although that happened too. And, it was a decent make. In the end, I just used it for dismantling and assembling PCs, as it couldn't handle anything else.

Does anyone know how this compares to the IKEA one? That one always seems to get good feedback on here when listed.

good, but they've been this price for months

That's the reason good electric screw drivers are gone to 24 or even 48 volts to get the torque and obviously prices over £100 get a good one and it last a life time and if, at the end of the DIY one make sure that battery is empty then there should be much less issues with needing replacement battery. I bought one of these 3.6v about 20 years ago in America and find it useless for most DIY work as no torque if very low power.

Got any links to these 24V or 48V screwdrivers ? You should try reading some of my posts above.

Got something similar from Aldi for a tenner as we had a load of monitors to put on swivel arms at work. Perfectly fine for that kind of task (low torque etc). For driving screws in walls or more than the odd bit of DIY it might be a little under powered. This is a £9 small low powered handheld tool and for some it will be money very well spent.
But many companies make these type of high torque screw drivers

That's not a cordless screwdriver, it's a combi-drill/driver. Completely different class of tool to this. If you search cordless screwdriver on the Bosch site the only result for a cordless screwdriver is this. Which is guess what? - 3.6v So you sir, are talking out of your derrière!

The last Wickes branded cordless device I had was a drill & the battery failed after about 6 months of very light use.
I get a good 5 years out of branded stuff.
So I would need to see some pretty good long term reviews to consider having my fingers burnt again.

Yep - had my house re-wired by a couple of sparks. They both use 3.6v for their screw-driving work. You don't want to be waving a honking great big drill to put a face plate on just like you wouldn't use this to form a large hole through an oak beam.

Have a BOSCH IXO and was looking for something as a 'spare'
Wasn't expecting much - but really pleased.
Easily copes with 8 x 2 1/2 screws into joists. Anything bigger and wouldn't even use IXO as would be there all day - have 18v drill. So should have no problems on walls if correctly plugged.
Bonus as the handle rotates (wish had this a few weeks ago when doing some work in-between ceiling joists).
Only niggle is the LED doesn't come on until you activate the drill - a bit pointless/annoying.
So-far appears ideal for its purpose and price. Don't know how long battery lasts (but have frequently run down my IXO in the past anyway and reverted to my 18v - not ideal in small spaces. Hence why I actually bought 2 at this price).
