Why do they have so many recertified drives? They're always being listed on this site. Are they returned items?
It doesn't fill me with confidence. No other company does this with their drives do they?

It does seem a little strange that this is the third similar WD drive posted today

I've got several of their recertified drives, they've all appeared brand new when received, protective film and security seal intact.
I've had no problems with any of them.

Not only that EVERY PERSON thinks they are the first person to find them then posts every drive on the website!
RECERT means it probably broke, they tinkered with it and it works so they try to sell it on with a reduced warranty because they know it will go bang again!

There is the possibility that these are genuine new drives that they are unable to sell at full retail price. Instead of lowering the price in shops they try and flog them off to cheapskates like us AND maintain the full price in stores. Win-win.

Yes, it does not fill you with confidence to go buy one of these new or recertified.
Interesting that someone else speculates that these are new being sold as recertified but I suspect that would violate some trading regs - not that such a thing has worried US tech companies in the past when selling in the UK.
The new prices of these are ludicrously expensive IMPO. You do get the feeling that the price is being held up high.

Not sure about these particular drives, but WD have a very good reputation for drive reliability. From my experience with about 15 external drive purchases over the past 4 years, I go for WD drives over any other manufacturer (finding their 3TB My Passport drives the most reliable). With recert drives like these, I would always recommend to double-backup important data, although they're cheap enough for that!

Nice one just ordered a 2TB for my XB1s. Was going for the 1TB from Amazon warehouse deal but cancelled that. Thanks op.

Is the warranty not "30 days"/"6 months"? I thought the 3 year warranty refers to the non-recertified drives.

1TB are £57.99 on Amazon. I was about to say it was a rubbish deal as you can get a Seagate one for £54.99, but then noticed these are 2TB whereas the Seagate at the similar price is only 1TB.
Do I NEED 2TB though, I'm only intending it for photos and GoPro videos; likely size will be less than 100GB total (and that's 5 years or more worth).
Wonder if I should just stick with 1TB and get the full 2 year Amazon CS protection.

Yup...these recertified drives are being posted a lot on here recently. I've said in some of those posts that I've bought probably ten of these in the past, and they've all been absolutely fine.....I've never had a problem with any of them, and they've been fast and reliable.
....and I'm about to buy two more. From (admittedly only my own) personal experience, I'd say go for it!

Is the 3 year warranty started when you buy it, or when it was originally sold?

I believe it's a 6-month warranty, most of the description on that page is copy + paste from non-recertified.

Because they are usually in high demand and stock gets depleted very quickly - it's always worth knowing when they are back in stock. Dude, get over it - if you don't want or need one ignore the deal. Do you have any evidence to back that up, or are you raging against the wind?

I've had no issue formatting these drives on my mac, using either ExFat, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I recommend the latter for reliability reasons, unless you're using the drive for both PC and Mac.

Thanks for posting, decided to get one after seemingly missing out on those hard drives from Asda. I've always been hesitant towards recertified drives but reckoned it was worth the plunge coming straight from the manufacturer with a warranty.

Thanks for the post- decided to buy one for the PS4. If it fails a year or so down the line then at least I won't have lost any irreplaceable data.
