getting rid of them 23 mm tyres

There's something dodgy about the product reviews at Planet X. Looking at the reviews for those £5 Hutchinson tyres, about 2 are for the tyres and the rest seem to be general reviews for Planet X.

Switch to the product page for the 700c inner tubes and you get the same thing: duplicate 4/5 star reviews saying just "good", "excellent", "as above". Pretty odd, I reckon.

Good price but look at reviews online. Pretty bad.

Love Planet X, having recently bought a bike from them last November, which I duly posted as it was a bit of a bargain! only for it to be removed by a mod. Are we allowed to post deals from this retailer now then?

I've had good experiences with them too, although never bought individual components. Bought an RTD -90 carbon road bike last year on finance for about £1400 and I love it, do about 150 miles a week ok it and done 2 coast to coasts. Their service was pretty spot on for me although I was worried they were using yodel to ship but it worked out ok - massive bloody box though lol.

As someone who knows very little about bikes, and who has done a bit of googling, could someone tell me if this is a decent road bike tyre or would it be better to go for something like this (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-essential-commuter-road-tyre/) with a bit more reviews?

Bought a frame from them last year, great price, and i honestly cant fault the kit, their customer service was great, i was migrating the components from another bike, they researched it worked out which headset etc to use with the frame.

You've got it wrong mate, I don't work for Planet X. Just received excellent CS that's all. I wasn't trying to be controversial just state the fact. I'd trust them.

Can anyone recommend the best way to reduce risk of getting punctures please?

Should I go for puncture resistant tyres or get puncture resistant inner tubes? Maybe the self healing ones?

I think getting puncture resistant tyres is the key to reducing punctures. Schwalbe marathon plus seem to be the industry standard and well rated, but I have been very happy with continental tour ride tyres, which are a bit cheaper.
Also keeping good tyre pressure is important, and avoiding thorns.
They feel a bit heavier, but punctures really do become rare.
You will still need a mini pump and spare inner tube and get some really good levers which wont snap with a bit of a struggle. I kept breaking them until I bought better quality "pedro's" for £5, although I have also bought a nice looking pair for £1.50 off aliexpress
