Hi All

I think I've spotted a coupon error at Tesco for 2x10% off discount codes.

Today I got a till voucher when I bought washing powder for 10% off Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines, washer dryers and tumble dryers.

There's a code on the website for 10% off hotpoint and Indesit freestanding appliances.

I was able to use both codes on the Indesit BWSD 71252 7kg washing machine £159.20 saving nearly £40. Also has free delivery and recycling for the old machine.

Codes are TD-GHTW & TD-KHRP

I'd assume you can use both codes on any freestanding machine and get some good saves

Happy shopping. First time poster, be kind

Good price comes to £161.19 now the bad stuff my gran bought the £199 hotpoint from Currys that was all over the TV and Sunday night it went wrong showing F09 code it was 10 days old now before people say it has nothing to do with this indershit machine your wrong. Both washing machines come of the exact same line at the same factory along With Candy and another couple of makes, gone are the days that Hotpoint machines were quality thats why they are now so cheap. This is a great price but the quality is very bad. Voting hot anway but i couldnt deal with the stress of calling them out when it fails.

I had the main drum bearing fail on a Smeg washer/dryer. Got quotes for the repair and they were more than the cost of the machine due to the labour, it is a major strip down and rebuild. I did not send it to land fill as I purchased the bearing for £15 and did it myself. At one stage there must have been over a 100 separate parts on the kitchen floor but it all went back together again nicely. Puzzles me why we have become such a throwaway society.

Yeah, you really can't say - my Hotpoint/Indesit has lasted 12 years therefore they're decent. You've got to go by recent reviews, preferably about that particular model, if you can. Brand reputation changes over the years, sometimes for the better - sometimes for the worse.

Indesit bought hotpoint 15 years ago, Whirlpool bought it out recent years. They are all Whirlpool now. Badges exist.

Personally I feel reviews are bought also washing machine reviews never talk about long term ownership just how well it washes which again is subjective and variable. I have a Samsung 12KG washing machine which I paid alot of money for and I will say it's a average for stain removal.

I would not allow another Hotpoint, Indesit or any other product from the whirlpool range through my door again if it was free and had money taped to it. They are at best shoddily manufactured and at worst deathtraps.

Agree. Just to clarify my Bosch dishwasher I referred to earlier was brand new so under warranty so I'm not going to invalidate the warranty by looking at the machine myself.

muffboy got a quote and did the work himself, with 100 parts on the floor which could be pretty daunting to a lot of people, whilst huggybecky_1975 £440 washer was presumably under warranty (bought last year).

I'm happy working with electrics but others aren't and a washing machine combines both electrics and water so not surprising many choose not to do the work themselves.

I do know one end of a screwdriver from the other but don't always have the time or energy to fix things plus I earn a decent enough wage to afford to pay someone to do the jobs that I frankly can't be arsed to do myself anymore e.g. I know how to maintain a car having learnt from my late (engineer) dad but prefer to let my local mobile mechanic get his hands dirty instead and know a great decorator who does a much better job at painting and odd job repairs than me.

The problem with all these washing machines is now they're controlled by a microprocessor. They used to be controlled by an electric clock which set the switches as it rotated. Now, if something goes wrong with the processing, one or more circuit boards needs to be replaced. The people who service these machines have a stack of boards, so it's simply a matter of replacing them until they find the faulty one. The individual boards are expensive. So it's difficult and expensive for the owner to do.

Built in obsolescence...had a Neff dishwasher which died after 15 years so replaced it with a Bosch. Complained it didn't dry mugs properly, had engineer out and he told me EU "efficiency" rules basically meant new dishwashers didn't perform/dry as well as old ones and that if it had been his dishwasher he'd have repaired the old Neff rather than replaced it.

17 May 17 #44
My previous washing machine only had one board (as does my current one), but I seem to recall reading that replacement controller boards for the previous one come unprogrammed , so would be pretty useless to anyone without access to the correct firmware and the engineer's oem programmer. If you can't repair the electronics on the board, then the cheapest option would be to look for a second hand part.

I beg to differ but IMHO the main problem is that appliances these days are often operated by men which isn't what they were designed for. The sooner we get back to the good old days, to quote Bernie Ecclestone the better!
"You know, I've got one of these wonderful ideas that women should all be dressed in white like all the other domestic appliances."

On a side note our washer dryer drain pump became blocked a while back and upon investigation by my good self, I DID NOT CALL OUT AN ENGINEER, I discovered an escaped chicken fillet from one of my daughter's bras!

When I casually mentioned it in passing she replied that they were looking a bit lopsided of late! I kid you not.

Why is everyone harping on about engineer callouts blah blah blah? I had a Hotpoint dishwasher that lasted about 10 years but just made any repairs myself. there's hardly any parts in a dishwasher that can't be changed by anyone but a simpleton. Also got a 14 yr old hotpoint tumble dryer still going, changed thermostats and heating element myself in less than 20 mins from looking at a you tube video. Even pcu boards can be bought on auction sites, I replaced one on my flat screen tv when that died . So... yes I would get another hotpoint or indesit but I'd never pay for a callout. We need to all know one end of a screwdriver from another that's all.

Not everyone know what screwdrivers are in this disposable society, The point is they shouldn't have to replace parts, They should work for a reasonable length of time.

If your machine is showing F09 error, all you need to do is take the drain out and hit it a couple of times in a bucket. 9 times out of 10 is that the hose is blocked which shows the error.

A lot has changed in the last 22 years!, They're now made in Poland using the cheapest low quality parts they can manufacture. They're most certainly not as good as they used to be.

Not everyone will experience problems with them but quite a large majority of people do, Especially these days.

I bought a £440 washing machine last year and it bounces all over the place. Even having called out their engineers I'm being told it's normal for large drum machines to be unbalanced. Unbalanced? We can't use the machine at night or early morning because it's so bad the neighbours complain. When I try it with a small load its so unbalanced it refuses to spin. With a large load it can't distribute it and shakes the house to pieces. I'm looking for a cheap heavy balanced machine. I'm furious with the manufacturers but they refuse to do anything.

Beko washing machine is the one I went for 8 years ago. Got it from good old Comet. £249 is what I paid for it then. If it goes wrong, I will chuck it away & get the same again. Which , gave this as the best value washing machine under £250 @ the time.. Never has missed a beat. Perhaps I am one of the lucky ones.

Zanussi? Got one a couple of years ago and heating's packed up.

Kudos to you. I've replaced bearings a few times in both washing machines and dryers. It's not hard, just very tedious and you have to keep track of every part you remove to get to and remove the drum (which is almost 80% of the parts in the machine!). Getting the drum out is the hardest part, changing the bearings themselves takes may be 15 min. Many YouTube videos one can refer to. Amazing how many people throw away their machines due to bearing failure.

I've found espares.co.uk very good for white goods spare parts, reasonable prices and they even advice you over the phone on how to perform replacements.

We're indeed now a throw-away society.
Your Miele should last at least another 5 years if you got decent bearings. Good luck!

Cheap washing machines are a waste of time. Completely agree.
Calling someone out to sort a washing machine is going to be a minimum of £50+ including a part etc.
Not worth the bother when a proper brand should give you a minimum 5 years use with no fuss apart from unclogging something here and there.

Ask your gran to get a Beko. Probably one of the most reliable brands of white goods on the market, at whatever price. My washing machine lasted 7 years and used at least once a day. Fridge freezer 4 years and going strong.
Yes they've had a couple of recalls with a fire risk highlighted for a few models, but so have Indesit and Hotpoint.

Yes, Some people have more money than sense. My daughter with three young children has had her 150 quid Indesit for over seven years. My 180 quid Beko has been on every days for six years. Our previous machine was an Indesit and I honestly can't remember when we bought it as it was so old, we only replaced it as it was so old.

Seem as good deal if you get one; I ordered a Hotpoint from Tesco with last 20% discount just 3/4 weeks ago; I got email with delivery date, waited in all day of course for No delivery. I emailed Tesco who replied after another 3 days saying their supplier is waiting for stock which was due in another weeks time. I cancelled and bought exact same Hotpoint model from the Coop which was delivered within 2 days and Tesco was still waiting for supplier to get stock.
Might be wise to confirm if Tesco have items available to sell before ordering?
