Sultan Dates special price of 50p. Usually they cost around £1.50. So a very good price.
Only found them in Tesco Express Whitechapel road.

If you want juice and sweet dates - buy Iranian. Stick them in the fridge for a day or so and they are perfect with chocolate and fruits.

Mazafati variety from Bam. Hard to get hold of. Much nicer than run of the mill Tunisian/ deglet nour.

I worry buying dates like this that they may become contaminated as packaging not secure?

these are the kind of dates you were made to eat as a punishment at Christmas in the 70's

Tunisian dates are very dry. Iranian dates are much better.

The best of all dates are from Madeenah, Saudi Arabia. They export a wide range of dates.
These dates from Tunisia, Algeria and the like do contain little insects in them and therefore you need to wash them before eating. Heat anyway!

I bought a few packs for 50p last year. When I cut them open, most of them had little insects inside and they were rotten. But this was last year so might not have the same problem this year. Just don't put it whole in your mouth - open them up to see if they are OK.
