Good price but don't expect it to last very long. The leather starts to peels away from its backing after a very short period of time leaving it looking old and ugly. This is my chair after ten months. I tried to return the chair but I did not keep my receipt.

All I say is, go and sit in these chairs first.
I was going to buy this seat but when I sat in it, it had no back support at all for me.
I tried all 22 chairs there and ended up with http://www.staples.co.uk/executive-chairs/cbs/297809139.html?promoCode=&Effort_Code=WW&Find_Number=297809139&m=0

Another nice chair worth considering is this one:

Staples Foroni Task Chair

It's 51p cheaper than this one but only has a 3 year warranty - it should also work with the same code stacking.

Don't forget that 8% TCB!

Has anyone managed to order from Staples ? They are useless! Me and a colleague tried to place two separate orders and both got blocked by Staples. I had to call them a few days later to ask for an update. They said that their system didn't recognize my billing address and that I don't live there! Exactly same excuse they gave to my colleague. Their IT systems are a joke and in the end they lost us as customers. Anyone else with similar experience ?

Mine came today, OK for the money (£58).
Easy to put together, 12 x allen bolts and 12 x dust caps, allen key supplied, that's it, about 30-40 minutes tops.
So far so good. :stuck_out_tongue:

Even the original price of £89 tells you it's a cheap chair and probably won't last long. I doubt it's very comfortable either. You have to pay £300 upwards for a decent long lasting comfortable office chair.

All I know is that it was sold to me as bonded leather. I am no expert. Are you and expert and able to tell what every substance is just by looking at a photo? Who are you to say I don't understand what I am posting? Do you know me?
You said that the pealing was PVC, I mealy posted some info quoting that the top layer of bonded leather can be made of vinyl with leather fragments attached to the underside.[/quote]

I don't think you understand what you are talking about. The PVC/vinyl (the black part) is not leather, and does not contain any leather. The backing is essentially mashed up leather offcuts which is then used to bond the PVC/vinyl.

Think of the backing like processed/reformed turkey slices.
Why am I an "expert"? I spent 3 years working as customer service manager for a furniture importer. Everything from Memory foam mattresses to sofas, to rattan furniture, to patio furniture. As you can imagine, I had to deal with stupid customers who think they know better on a daily basis...

Just got mine today, overall am happy with it. Slightly higher quality than the eBay PU leather chair I had before which broke and wore within a year (posted earlier by someone on this thread), comfy and I like the way you can lock it on the recline, and very easy to put together - only about 10 screws. Think it will last a couple of years before the arms go... got my fingers crossed that they'll honour the warranty if they do.
gwapenut
9 May 17 #73
I got mine 3 or 4 years ago and it has been great. No peeling at all, despite repeatedly scuffing one of the arms against a rough exposed edge under my desk. That arm looks battered where it has been scuffed, but the damage has not spread or started peeling. I wouldn't expect anything better given the hard life it's had.

I like a slight recline on my chairs so the back support may not be good enough for everyone. It was my favourite when I tried out all the chairs in the store. Its full price used to be 240 for years, sometimes reduced to 120, so quality and manufacturing may have changed.

Got mine today. Ok not best quality the silver paint comes off easily. Easy to put together and solid once built. Much bigger than I expected so downstairs now and need a different chair for my daughter upstairs. For the price I am happy if it lasts a year then I need to take it to the dump then it is money well spent. I find it comfortable and like the soft padded arm rests although will be careful with them they look a bit fragile. I feel like you need to not scrape it on something even accidentally or it will tear into a million pieces as we all know a single hole is a goal not wanted on a chair

is not really leather?

Bonded leather, also called reconstituted leather or blended leather, is a term used for a manufactured upholstery material including animal hide. It is made as a layered structure of a fiber or paper backer, a pulp made from shredded leather and a polyurethane coating which is embossed with a leather-like texture.

bonded leather....its a bit like getting some mince and adding all sorts of fillers, bread / brains / guts / pva and shaping it like a steak and calling it a "sirloin"
adamspencer95
9 May 17 1 #53
i honestly dont know what most of these comments are on about.

it's a £60 office chair, not an £800 ergo-carbon fibre chair. if it lasts 5 years its more than paid for itself, and if not, keep your receipt and you'll get a new one.

honestly, people need to set their expectations based on price, rather than trying to fit their expectations into a much lower price.

You should know by now that you don't need a receipt to return faulty goods - as long as you have some proof of purchase like a debit card statement or a dispatch email or whatever.

For me, at least, the problem is I don't always want to sit like a typist. I very often sit cross-legged or in a half-slouch with my feet on the chair, and only executive chairs with large flat seats enable me to do that. I've yet to find a real leather executive one which is rated for more than 8 hours of use.

All I know is that it was sold to me as bonded leather. I am no expert.

Another quote:

Bonded leather, also known as reconstituted leather, is perhaps the cheekiest form of fake leather available. Introduced to the market in 2007, this product only qualifies as leather – if you believe that a VW Bug qualifies as a Ferrari because both have wheels. Bonded leather consists of a number of vinyl and polyurethane layers affixed to each other. Mixed leather fibers are then glued to the underside of these layers. That’s correct; they aren’t glued to the top of the surface, they’re attached to the underside. The top layer of polyurethane/vinyl is then patterned and dyed to match the traditional look of fine leather.

You might be asking yourself: why have any leather fibers at all if they are just glued to the underside of the material where nobody will ever see them? Manufacturers have been predictably silent on the topic, but most people suspect the presence of these fibers is used to justify marketing claims that the product is “leather.” Considering how this material is made, it is not surprising that reconstituted leather eventually fails and sometimes in less than a year, with cracking, peeling, and discoloration which are all major issues.

Bonded leather, also called reconstituted leather or blended leather, is a term used for a manufactured upholstery material which contains animal hide. It is made as a layered structure of a fiber or paper backer, a pulp made from shredded leather, and a polyurethane coating which is embossed with a leather-like texture. Related products, bicast leather or coated leather, are made by splitting, shaving, or grinding leather to reduce its thickness, and then laminating it.

Taken from Wikipedia.
FamGuy
8 May 17 #41
That's not leather, that's fake plastic leather. Bonded leather merely means that the edges of the plastic PVC are held together with leather strips which you can't even see. It's supposed to add flexibility to joins but has nothing to do with what you can actually see

Do yourself a favour and take the £60 and put it towards a used ergonomic taskmaster chair if you want to sit in this for 8+ hrs a day. Find them in great condition on ebay from office clearance outlets quite often.

Introductory models available around £180:
Steelcase Leap
Humanscale Freedom

I have the leap and it's amazing, these chairs move with the body which is way more sensible if you actually think about it for 5 seconds.

You are right, I'm just packaging this chair up for returning, bought it over the weekend with the 15% off code but it arrived with a broken part, although this was repairable with glue, but after putting it together I found the seating area to be extremely small due to your back being pushed towards the front, my previous chair fits your backside and your legs this one just about fits your backside and you feel as though your falling off the front, totally useless for anyone over 5ft 11in in my opinion, I couldn't believe how uncomfortable it was when I first sat down on it.

I've got a chair that looks similar to this (different arm structure too), purchased from Staples in 2013 it only started to peel on the seat recently and it wasn't too bad. Oddly though mine didn't come with a 5 year guarantee and its not a Staples chair, its a true innovations chair (the company that makes Lazy Boy chairs).

I got in touch with them and they unexpectedly after asking me the model of chair and a few other details sent me a replacement seat, they didn't even ask for proof of purchase and it's out of warranty. Very comfy chair and I paid much more for mine, only thing I was mad about was that they didn't say it was bonded leather they used another term.

I think it was £259.99 when I bought mine but I asked if the manager could knock the price down so paid £200ish.

Still I'm happy with mine and at this price I'd buy another.

I'm sat in this very chair at the moment. I think I paid around £120 going on 4 years ago now. It's survived being dismantled numerous times. The padding has seen better days and definitely hasn't withstood the test of time. It's not what I would call comfortable anymore. The material doesn't look too bad, considering.

For £61, it's worth a punt. Especially with the warranty. It was much more comfortable when I first acquired it.
