2 Play 1's are better than a play 5. Two play 1's can be paired for stereo or as a single standalone speaker.

Could you get 'surround sound' with one of these and a Playbar?

You'd be better off with a denon heos avr and two denon heos 3 rears as the front speakers and sub can be proper floor standing speakers therefore miles better sound than a play bar

Agree. The stereo sound from 2 paired Play1s is something completely different.

An Xbox One can decode the DTS from a Bluray and output Dolby instead

What was your 5.1 kit?

How is that better than just choosing Dolby to begin with?

No doubt! But pretty lame out of the box support and a pain for those of us not investing in the XB1S; a shame as it's the only other bar I'd have otherwise considered to replace our Yamaha.

Sonos is ace, with top notch customer support, build quality and regular firmware updates to add new functionality

A lot of Blurays only have a DTS soundtrack and no Dolby surround track.

I can't remember the exact model name but it was a Pioneer kit from Richer Sounds - was about £300 ex-display. When I moved flats we stuck the Pioneer kit into my parents house and moved over to Sonos. Only when we added 2 Play 1's was it better htough - till then it was good but not brilliant.

I've actually got 2 spare of these (bought for a commercial gym refurbishment, owner decided 3 was loud enough!) if anyone wants one for £400 I'll be happy to help out members on here. Just haven't got round to listing them on eBay yet. Brand new still sealed in DHL shipping box. Fire me a PM if anyone's interested!
