Okay, I'm super keen on safety anyway, so wanted to share these. As far as I can see both are actually from the same company, just different stores.
Ghostbikes usually have some decent offers on gear and tend to drop on their ebay stores too. Worth noting that under £25 isn't free delivery on their main site, but their ebay stores seem to offer it on loads of stuff.
The very best 'protection' is not to crash, yet so many people will happily spend massive amounts on 'decent gear', but not consider learning some 'advanced riding' techniques to no crash in the first place!
In the end, with helmets fit is incredibly important.
If this fits, it will probably protect much better than a £600 Arai that doesn't fit.

We all love a bargain, but there is a bargain such as a sale on a good helmet and then there is this.................

I'd say 99.9% of accidents can be avoided with good observation and acting upon said observation.
Sure, there will be that time a spanner falls from an aeroplane's engine compartment - or more mundane things on the road.
But the vast majority CAN be mitigated.
I think the attitude of "nothing I could do about it" and "it's the other people" is part of the reason so many are KSId and so on.

For anyone in Essex, our fire services offer free basic and advanced motorcycle courses to anyone, Google firebike, it will take you to a Facebook page, then send an email to the one on the fb page and they will arrange a booking for you

That's one of the stupidest things I've read, I don't think people wake up In the morning and go you know what Im going to crash today! doesn't matter how much advanced training anyone has there are still so many other things out of a riders control that can cause a accident. The only thing you can truly control is what protection you wear and then hope you never need it

Bit of a pointless comment as this is an eBay sale so unless you call by their shop in Preston you'll not know the fit before you buy it. I'd say that half the people who buy their first lid online wouldn't realise what a properly fitted helmet felt like and end up with a helmet that was too big (and dangerous) for their head although Shox are supposidely tight fitting.
And for those who are suckered by advertising, polycarbonate = plastic.
Something to be said for getting a properly fitted helmet but IMO it's worth paying a bit more for a shopfitted GRP helmet that hasn't got kicked around in the post and returned a few times.
My £150 Arai Condor did the job when my head bounced off a Kerb at 70. Money well spent.

Could anyone recommend some decent advanced riding techniques so i can do a google of places that may offer these in my local area?
Advanced riding schemes vary by area so googling is the way forward. http://www.bikesafe.co.uk is a popular one though

One could argue that when you're starting out and lack experience you're more likely to come a cropper!
As others have said - expensive doesn't always mean best protection.
Fit & comfort first - followed by everything else (brand, price or whatever revs your goat).

The fit is just as important as the price. If the helmet doesn't fit your head shape it won't do its job properly. I could spend £500 on an Arai helmet but it would be a waste of money (and potentially more dangerous) because they just don't fit me properly. X-Lite on the other hand is a perfect fit for my noggin.
I'm not saying you shouldn't buy online - just be prepared to send it back if it's not a perfect fit (Google for what a correct fit is). I've bought loads from Ghostbikes and their customer service is top notch so I wouldn't stress if you do need to send it back.

Joking aside, I saw a cyclist got knocked down about 2 weeks ago ... he looked in a terrible state. A full helmet like this for cyclist should be mandatory.

Star ratings like the Gold Stickers mean they hit certain criteria, Arai and Shoei are generally considered the best on the market but don't always get 5 stars. I've been told various reasons why before, partly they are great for front impact but not side impact, Partly they are very stiff and good for pentration impact and high speed collisions but not so good at low, and partly they are designed to meet other EU tests Snell I think from memory, and the SHARP test isn't the same.
You need it to be comfortable and fit well. By all means try for a 5 star lid but its not the be all and end all, at the end of the day it's your head and your choice.

3 star helmet, good price though! Voted hot due to hi viz.
Though saying this the 5 star mt revenge i got for £50 when i started out and put hi viz stickers on it might be another option...
